I’ve been blessed to own a custom Taylor and a nice custom Martin but a Santa Cruz custom is a goal one day. This one is amazing! Glad you played it in a way that let us see what the guitar is capable of. Thank you for the review
I bought a SCGC used a year ago just like this one and thought “what would the odds be if that one’s mine?” Lo and behold I look at the label and 5054 it is. Love this guitar and I feel blessed to own it
Such a rich and complex tone full of lovely overtones--makes my heart beat faster, sheesh. God bless the lucky soul who gets to take this one home. Wish I lived anywhere near your shop, loving these videos! *edit* Haha, commented before the video ended only to realize I nearly quoted your wrap-up summary. Doesn't make it less true!
+Matt Kingman I couldn't agree more! This one is actually now on hold for a very lucky customer. I believe that this is truly a 'life-timer' of an instrument, definitely one that you don't want to put down! Many thanks for checking out our demos, we appreciate it. And if you're ever near St. Louis please come see us! Cheers!
This is without doubt the most stunning guitar I've ever heard. Santa Cruz at it's best! Can I ask if I want to custom order from them, do I have to go through a dealer or can I contact them direct? I've treys emailing them but had no response. Thanks for your great review
Hey Matt, just curious, what guitars do you have in your personal arsenal? Would you mind sharing your gear list? You speak very fondly of each guitar you play and I'm very curious to see which ones you have selected for yourself. Sorry if you have been asked this before.
Thanks for the curiosity! Believe it or not, at the moment I am sort of 'in between' guitars. I typically own a single acoustic at a time. I find it very valuable to get to know one guitar very well in order to pull all the nuance out of it and really feel at home musically. The bond between the guitar and the player is my goal completely. My playing style is mostly fingerstyle, so it's not terribly hard to have a single instrument that is capable of covering everything I need it to. In the past I have been very into spruce and mahogany OMs. These Euro spruce and Cocobolo OMs are really what my ears are drawn to these days though. I will definitely own a guitar very similar, if not exactly like this OM sometime in the future. So much to love! Cheers!
+eddiesguitarsstl such an interesting perspective thanks Matt! I love the sound of Cocobolo as well but it's a little out of my price range. I've also been into the Spruce and Mahogany combo as well. I've been looking into a lot of D-18s recently and have oddly enough found the Standard to be my favorite with the exception of the Martin Arts and Crafts guitar. You should check it out if you haven't already. It's bear claw spruce and highly figured Honduran Mahogany dreadnought. Easily the best sounding guitar I've ever played.
+eddiesguitarsstl People must be squirreling away that highly figured cocobolo like they do with Brazilian because it is almost impossiblefor me to find that crazy lookngstuff even in small knife handle blank sizes. Finding smaller pieces of the burl wood is almost as tough as getting a real picture of Bigfoot and I'm not even competing with instrument makers for that stuff!!!!.
Too twangy/chimey for me. Its beautiful, great separation of tones, but to me it sounds almost like a Portuguese wire stringed guitar like they use for fado. Under real attack that top end will be a mess of overtones I don't want...
I agree to a point, but hard to get a guitar that is so delicate with finger style but will hold up under strumming. That's why I have a MNartin Hd-28 along with my fiongersttle guitar -- isn this case a Furch Red Gc-CR.
My eyes got WIDE when you played the first chord. This is a rare guitar indeed! Man unbelievable! Your playing as usual inspired.
Wow, that's got to be the most lush sounding guitar I've heard. Everything blends together so well.
When you said it’s perfect I was sceptical. Not any more! Stunning tone.
Every guitar he reviews is spectacular and special..... I want them ALL DAMNIT! Ugh
Mine will be here in 1 week!!!! Omg!!! Can't wait!!!
Ps. Thank you Matt! And of course Carolyn Sills from SCGC!!! She's the best!!!

Sweet playing bro! Thank you!! Have a nice day! From Chile...
Even though my phone this guitar sounds incredible.
Lovely tune as well.
Beautiful presentation.
Dear Santa …..😆
👍👏🎸
👍👏👏
Ok you got me. One of the nicest sounding guitars I ever heard.
The song is more beautiful than the guitar, which is already astonishing
Once more, what a beautiful music and so well played. Wonderful...
+Gilles21000 Thanks SO much!!!

I can imagine the sound is even better than in this video because of aging 😮

Sounded amazing. Would have liked to have heard some Clapton. :) "Leila"? perhaps...why not? Odd it's not being played more in demo videos...heh..
What a stellar SCGC OM would love to hear future recordings in Stereo XY or spaces two mics to capture full of in mono. Take care

Tony Rice, is a believer. They are out of this world.
Looking amazing
Wow! Sound fantastic!!
Harmonics on 7th fret, sure;. On 5th fret with such clarity and depth? Wow. That guitar is alive.
Stunning sound! And just one small condenser mic?
Yes! Back then we just used one Sennheiser e914 mic. We now have two, and use them in stereo.
Wow! I can't wait!!!!!
I'd love to hear a Larrivee L-10 Rosewood, evaluated..
Wow!

time ago with a girl on the beach, between two boats pulled into the dry, under a gigantic pale moon………….!
