  • How do you install an Atlas ALI Certified 10,000 lb. car lift? That's easy, just one bolt at a time. Ok, enough of the cheesy intros. We needed a new lift in the shop and it didn't take long to settle on the Atlas Platinum 10k lb lift. The only thing left to do was install it...pshhh!! Easy-peezy.
    Well, instead of hiring a professional crew to knock this out in a few hours, we thought we'd do a video tutorial on how to install a car lift. Wow, was that a journey! There are quite a few parts to these things, and there's a lot of measuring and checking, measuring and checking. Seriously though, knocking out a DIY install of a car lift may sound daunting, but it's not too bad.
    The quality of the Atlas Platinum ALI lift speaks for itself. From the industrial steel components to the durable powder coating finish, this lift is built very well. We're looking forward to spending hours underneath it. We'll have a follow-up video in a few months to give our feedback then too.

    I'm glad you answered back so quickly, you just answered a ton of curiosity, that's makes my dream garage a GRANDSLAM idea, there are people using car lifts for storage, in my opinion that's worth the lottery,

    Hey Thank you for creating this video! This helped me out a lot. Wanted to point out that the safety latch springs are not correctly installed. Turns out the Rotary lift (SPO10) use the same mechanism and have a much clearer detail on their install instructions. Both springs are to be installed sandwiched together on the left side.. Wish I could attach a picture.

    Should have also used a wire concrete brush to clean the hole and drill through the slab in case one day an anchor stops holding. Then just pound it down into the ground and put another one in its place. If one comes loose now you'll have to pull it out somehow without blowing out the top of the concrete around the hole. Chemical anchors are becoming more common nowadays for lift installs; Hilti HY-200 or Ultrabond HS-1CC both work great with Threaded G55 or B7 Rod. 150 ft-lbs of torque seems too high. It's ok for the initial anchor setting torque but most monthly re-torques range from 95-110 ft-lbs for most lifts.

    The best way is put 2 bolts on 1 column and install the top rail then move the other column and connect it at the top then square everything up and bolt it all down , I did mine all by my self with a tractor bucket and a latter. When I got my 10000 certified lift about 6 years ago it was 2600.00 and just check the price and it jumped to 4800.00 same with my wood furnace that's a Drolet heat pro as they was the same price and went up the same price.

    Great video and the instructions do suck! My lift is done on the install minus running the wiring to the lift. This will be done on the weekend. QUESTION! The motor/pump had the hyd screw fitting (for hose attachment) and a threaded fitting with a plastic elbow zip tied to the lever on the pump. I have no clue where this elbow fitting goes and there is no instructions on the manual. Can you help? Thanx. Larry

    Great video ! Did you shoot it all yourself? Did your rams come preinstalled in the columns? I bought a 12k Atlas lift, PV-12PX, and the rams came separate. No instructions in the manual on how to install them! Waiting on the sales guy to get back to me. Seems nobody has a vid of 12k lift assembly out here.

    could this type lift landcruser station wagon 4x4 and hw many cylinders does yr lift has

  • @Werdnasemajjamesandrew
    @Werdnasemajjamesandrew 2 года назад +3

    This is super incorrect. You will end up with chatter and jumping unless you use a level and get the bubble in the lines and get the columns within 1/16 of an inch slope over a 2 foot level. These guys didnt even try it takes 15 minutes to level a above ground hoist. Also 110 ft lbs is the american lift institute standard on 3/4 anchors with a 15/16 nut. Its a rotary copy so trust me that torque will possibly crack 4000 psi concrete 8 bag mix

    I have possible ground space for putting up a nice much larger garage, I have measured the current double garage that we have, I have space for 16 cars on the ground level, but I don't actually plan on using all that space for that reason, can a car lifts be used as lift storage for private use, because there are some people that are into rare cars and having some space for personal use,

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  2 года назад

      People definitely use car lifts for storage. Thanks for watching.

    Did the kit include touchup paint for all the places where the paint failed and it started to rust?

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  3 года назад +1

      The paint didn't fail. The idiots that unloaded the lift, they mishandled it and put some scratches on it. Those idiots were us, lol. Seriously though, the finish was done very well on this lift. It did not come with touch-up paint, but I have thought about getting some. Thanks for watching.

    But one more question about these car lifts, which one is actually technically safer, the 2 posts that hold the automobile in the middle of the 4 posts with the full length drive , cause I'm thinking of the weight distribution having less stress,

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  2 года назад

      For long term storage, I'm sure the 4-post offers more security.

    • @vandalsgarage
      @vandalsgarage Год назад +1

      Its not a question of one being less safe. They are two different tools. A four post lift in a home shop is generally used for storage. Two post lifts are used for repair and maintenance. You _can_ do maintenance on a four post lift, but the ramps get in the way, and to do any brake or suspension work, you'll need a jack to lift the wheels off the ramps. Two post lifts are used in pro shops every day, and are perfectly safe, if installed and used correctly.

  • @wayneeden98
    @wayneeden98 2 года назад

    With these car lifters, do you think there are any car collectors that use them for actual car collectors of storage use, I know there are 2 posts and 4posts but can these car lifts be used as storage for those individuals who have several cars in any given personal warehouse, that might be a private collection,

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  2 года назад

      They can be used for that, but most car collectors choose to use a 4-post lift for that. The 4-post is built better for storage than the 2-post.

    Why would "most people" hire an installer? Pro shops will, probably for insurance and worker liability issues. But the DIY guy absolutely can install one of these with help from a spouse or friend. Honestly, if you don't have the skills to install a 10k lift, you probably don't have the mechanical aptitude to work on cars and light trucks.

    Something isn't right with the safety latch mechanism. The spring should be lying flat against the bar. I would check it out with the manufacturer before you use it as being "safe".

      We kinda thought the same thing, but we checked and they seem to think it's ok. I will say that we try to force the spring off the lock, and we were not able to do so. We do see what you're saying though. Thanks, as always, for watching.
      We love the new lift, and yes it beats dragging around a floor jack and jackstands all over the shop.

    Altas lifts are cheaply made overseas with lower end steel, poor quality control and cheap asian power units they're better than those Titan lifts though.
