I chose to NEVER drink alcohol or use anything not prescribed to me. They are in their 30’s and I’m 54. I still don’t drink or drugs and neither have my children. It’s a choice… the first time can be the beginning of any addiction therefore I never made the choice to even try

I can understand letting the judge know you are the sole provider of six kids but it isn’t hard to see when someone uses their kid’s in their defense. That chick had dangled all 6 of her kids in front of the judge multiple times and sadly it worked every time, except the last time when she was called out for it. The judge 👩‍⚖️ was 💯 percent right when she told the defendant she cared more about her kids than she did being their Mother! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I remember going to court facing possible jail time (my one and only time) for a bounced check at a grocery store. A week before my day in court for sentencing I found out I was pregnant 🤰🏻 with our rainbow baby (after losing our first born son at 37 weeks pregnant) and I was considered high risk due to our previous losses. I had mentioned how the stress was a lot for me when talking to my attorney but I NEVER told him to use my pregnancy in my defense and the moment he did I was actually mad at him for doing his job. Yes it would probably help me but my actions had nothing to do with my baby and I was there to get sentenced for a mistake I made. I may have been stupid for doing so but I told the Judge to please not take my pregnancy into consideration when making their judgement. I told him I was only 6 or 8 weeks pregnant and I didn’t feel using my pregnancy as I my advantage was the right thing to do. I ended up getting 1 year of bench probation and ordered to pay restitution which was done prior to coming in to court. My son is now 6 almost 7 ❤

Admittedly Judge Bryant has more options since she is judge in Wayne County. The chick with the broken leg was a dicey one, she can't do her time in Oakland as they don't have a hospital wing at their jail (and they are probably extremely reluctant to administer pain medication due to security issues), she will likely do her time at Duane Waters Prison Hospital in Jackson. Wayne County does have a jail hospital wing and that judge could confidently send a defendant in similar circumstances to jail without worrying about the county being billed $500 plus per day from the prison.

I bet the woman didn't turn herself in and that there is now a warrant out for her arrest. I do bet the woman and her six kids are no longer in Michigan, though.
As for the woman with the broken leg, I hope she likes Duane Waters Prison Hospital in Jackson, since the jail won't be able to handle her medical needs due to the broken leg that is where she will end up (this is standard practice for jails, in Michigan as far as county jails only Kent and Wayne County Jails have a full hospital wing). She would be in too much danger to be scooting around on crutches or in a wheelchair in the county jail and most jails don't like to administer opioid pain medication as a security issue. I am surprised that the judge didn't have her turn herself in directly to Duane Waters, though -- since she won't be able to sit in the back of a squad car due to her leg the county will have to transport her via ambulance to Duane Waters.

This all female lineup is DEADLY.
The offender gets punished only if they repeat their crime 8 times

Grace is finite in people. She just gave her the last one as she has no confidence in her making a legitimate reform.

When the probation officer is more prepared than the defense attorney, you've got a problem.

You can’t be around the same people you were drinking with when you are “trying” to get sober.

These are the people who Repugs want to have more kids. If you get on assistance, after the first child both parents need to be fixed or loose all benefits. Fathers need to be mandated to give 50% of their income if they refuse to get fixed.

So because she has 6 children she should be allowed to break the law? There is a special place in hell for defense attorneys.

There's a special place in heaven for defense attorney's, it's hands down one of the toughest job's out there, do you understand that under the constitution EVERYONE is entitled to a vigorous defense AND if said defense attorney doesn't do their job well, is lackadaisical it could lead to a mistrial or dismissal altogether, would you prefer defense attorney's do a crap job so that guilty people are let go over technical/procedural issues? Seems you'd prefer that while condemning defense attorney's to hell just for doing the job THE COURTS HAVE ASKED THEM TO DO, how very Christian of you, if you ascribe to trumps brand of Christianity 😂😂

Her attorney is ridiculous. “She has an excuse,” 🙄🙄 She has nobody to watch her children, yet she supposedly drank at a wedding and a baby shower… who watched her kids when she went to those events??

Why does that make the attorney ridiculous? She's a public defender. She didn't say it was a good or valid excuse. It's her job to make sure her client has her say in court, even if she knows the client is full of it. Her client's excuse might be weak but her responsibility is to give her the chance to voice it. That's what a fair trial is. She got to say her piece, and in the end justice prevailed. That's how America (ideally) works.

Yes she has a duty to defend her client but trying to make the judge feel bad for making the obviously correct decision is inappropriate.
