You guys were so lovely! Thanks for coming down to say hello! :)
Hi Donal - really enjoying your travel videos! Thanks for sharing :D
I have not been back to vietnam since 2011, miss it quite a bit. Watching videos of your trip and seeing how much you like Vietnam is so comforting. That egg coffee tho, my sister raved about it but last time i was in Vietnam it did not exist. Maybe you can make a video on your interpretation of it?
It sounds like it could be a good one to try at home! :)
Love this video
Donal: Your face is always smile, never boring for look at lololol
Looks like such an interesting place.
Nice to see through your vlogs :)
Love love bun cha!!!!!
I am Vietnamese and I am born in Hanoi but I live in Canada but I know Vietnamese food and language and places and all of that stuff.
SPOT ME IN THE VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!! =)))))))))))))) Quite embarrassing when he suddenly pulled out his camera and shoot me, LOL. I should have seen it coming and prepared it better for my "RUclips speech" =)))
All the fans are so cute! Also, pretty sure if I visited Vietnam, I'd be eating all day.
They were so lovely to come and watch us filming! :)
You were lucky enough to see them using that machine! My grand parents used to have one but it's years ago!!!!
Oh I miss Hanoi so muchhh. Cant wait to comeback >_
It was an amazing machine- tho not one to get your hand stuck in!!!
sure!! This reminds me so much of the days when I was so small running after the adults to the field, watching them harvesting the rice then padding them on this machine. And the smell of newly harvested rice is the thing I could never forget.
I'm glad you had a good time in our country, our city!!
Wow, such a nice adventure. if u have any chance to be back to Vietnam, u absolutely should go to HaGiang. It's the best place in the north of Vietnam so far which hasn't changed to be a touristic place yet 👍
YAAAAYYYY you finally got to eat bun cha in Hanoi!!! Isn't just delicious? Little snails are delicious especially the ones where they cook it in garlic, lemon grass, and coconut water. Try the desserts there at the markets. If it gets too hot in Hanoi, cool down with iced sugar cane juice. It's really refreshing . :)
I actually got to try them in the next video! Love the iced sugar cane juice! :)
come to malaysia during our hari raya festive.
you gonna love the food .
Really love watching your vlogs and programmes, you do a really great job. :) Ciao!
OMG, the dessert you had, or chè, is one of my favorites, but there are so many different kinds. My aunt describes it as "fruit cocktail," and indeed there are some chè that has nothing but fruits, but the one like yours here wasn't really fruit based. Wikipedia calls it dessert soup, although some are more stew like. LOL. It's definitely nothing like Western desserts, though.
Regarding the coffee, Vietnamese people tend to be lactose intolerant, but they sure do love their custards, a little something they picked up from the French. That's very intricate techique in the making of the coffee, like sabayon but without Marsala.
Your videos are so realistic and you are being so true and not making stuff up.
Wow.... i can see and smell my country in this video :) i hope u like vietnamses food.
Wonderful Video...love the Egg coffee. I would love to see you try out the recipe. Please include India on your 2015 trip. :)
Oh that's an idea! :)
I regret watch this video Donal!.. it made me so hungry...fish cakes....ahh
Hahahaa nonetheless, really nice video.. love to see more video like this
One more on the way stick around! :)
Im vietnamese and the last time i visited Vietnam was 5 years ago. I miss the food most of all. What words have you learned?

Linh Nguyễn would love too :)
When i first saw you on television, I was like.. OMG this guy is really adorable and I love it. And when I'm watching your show I'm totally craving for it. Anyways Please come visit Philippines and try different filipino food and try our street foods here. I would love to meet you in person. Thank you and God Bless! :)
Diane Manalad LOL! Thanks so much! :)
Donal Skehan O_O wow you really reply. Thanks! :)
seemed quite warm ,,
Hey Donal, Great episode. How was the snail really? The egg coffee looks like something I must try! The incongruity of the rudimentary cooking devices and everyone seeming to have instagram was quite amusing. The way of the world I guess.
Continue having a great trip and thanks for sharing.
The good thing of that snail, I think, comes from its texture. It is chewy and crunchy at the same time (sorry if you find "crunchy" weird but I dont know what other word to describe, my bad vocab :D) The snail itself doesnt have much flavor (especially when they are boiled, like the one that Donal tried) that's why snails are served with sweet-sour fish sauce as the dipping sauce and they combine really really well :D Humble but delicious dish :D :D
Thanh Hang Nguyen Hi, Nice to hear. I used to make the French ones when I worked in a restaurant but all you could taste was the Garlic butter.
I'd probably like the texture. As a kid I would mix peanuts with my bubble gum, It would make my sister sick:) Thanks.
My Italian great grandfather used to put zabaglione in his espresso in the morning :)
maybe that's where it started! :)
awww, you visited our country, I think I skipped that video :''<
my recommendation for you is that go to Nha Trang and middle of Vietnam generally if you have plan to back here again. there are many fresh seafood, more tasty and spicy foods, you would probably like it and collect some new recipes for you own then. ^_^
I am from Vietnam from Hanoi I know everything
U should travel to the South. If u come back to VN, especially the South, I will be happy to be your tour guide. Haha
I recognize all the food you tried except the egg coffee. Never heard of that at all! I know that we Vietnamese are into coffee but I'm surprised that put that much dairy in the coffee! Most of us are usually lactose intolerant so... wow. I gotta try that next time. :D is it like drinking tiramisu?
Oh wow really I didn't know that! Apparently it's specific to Hanoi! Where are you from?
Vietnamese people drink a lot of dairy actually. Egg coffee is very popular in Hanoi, you can get in a lot of places.
I am a second generation American citizen actually... hahaha my parents are immigrants, but of course, they bring a lot of our culture here. I live very near the Little Saigon area (think of it as a Vietnamese "Chinatown") of Orange County, California, so I have been surrounded by a lot of Vietnamese restaurants. My family origin is originally Northern Vietnamese but a majority of my relatives live in Southern Vietnam now. That's probably why I have never heard of this egg coffee.
My family still explores Vietnamese food from all regions because well.... they're all delicious! XD Perhaps, I should ask my grandparents about the coffee, since I know that they used to live in Northern Vietnam! I'll let you know! Thank you for the reply, Mr. Skehan!
2:55, looks like you skipped over what appears to be winter melon soup.
are you coming to Malaysia anytime soon?
I live in Hanoi
I'm Vietnamese!
Awesome video !!! :)
THANK YOU! :)
