Before you comment on the bubbles issue as many have done (thanks!), just FYI the bubbles dissappeared after a few days of their own volition! So now very happy with my efforts.....
That's good news! I will be looking at speedo angels for my bikes too 👍
I detail paint with a machine polisher, plexiglass included.
Meguiars PlastX.
Maybe the film is slightly porous which would allow air bubbles to escape over time. Personally I couldn't have put up with the bubbles, they would have had to come off if it were my bike.
So it easy operator error 🎅👍
Exactly why I avoid those screen protectors. The bubbles annoy me more than light scratches. Glad yours disappeared!
Hi Andy, the small air bubbles should dissipate naturally over a few days, happens quite a lot in the vinyl signage game.
Indeed the air bubbles disappeared after a couple of days!
Sorry to say so Andy but the air bubbles are due to the application rather than the product. If you hold the protector in a dish shape and roll it on to the screen very slowly you should be able to avoid them in the first place. Just gently keep the pressure on with a roller of some suitable size and they go on well. I use the case of an old lipsyll tube!!
Thanks for the advice!
Practice makes perfect.
Patience is a virtue when putting these on , don’t rush
A common fear of slow application is dust getting between the protector and surface. I've found if you can manage to get some sort of cross airflow, either via a breeze or a strategically-placed fan, that issue is resolved and you can go as carefully as you please.
When I applied a screen protector from Speedo angels I used a spray bottle and plenty of water hence no bubbles, then leave it until all is dry
Good morning. Fill a spray bottle with a mix of washing up liquid (just a small amount)and water. Spray the lens and the protector before applying it and then use the small plastic scraper tool to push the water solution out. It’s how paint protection film/frame saver is applied. Best wishes.
Thanks for the tip - Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
Yep. Bubbles have an easy way out then.
The protectors supplied by R&G come with a small spray bottle you fill with soapy water.
I find good old vlog style videos where we talk about everything and nothing to be so theraputic during winter times, I don't think I've taken my bike out since the start of October now. (glares out at the snow)
Anyway, thanks alot, Andy. Much appreciated.
As for screen protectors, my OCD won't let me have air bubbles and I personally refuse to give up untill I get them all out, even if it takes me all day. I hope no one else has to suffer the same.
I’m with you - Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
I was just going to say ...I had air bubbles showing in mine, but after a few days they'd gone.
I just fitted same Screen protectors to my bike and loads of air bubbles. It mentions in instructions about applying wet for best result (spray dash with water). Didnt like idea of that but maybe worth a try.
Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
I fitted Speedo Angels screen protectors to my RS. I used a small amount of soapy water as instructed and they went on without issue. Not sure if the protectors you bought required the same method of fitting however I suspect a TMF application faux pas occurred. Tiny bubbles (not the 1967 Don Ho version) are surely better than scratches. Hope the injury is mending well. Cheers.
Cheers Colin - painful so far!! Not an injury by the way but a planned operation I’m pleased to say! On the protection front after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
No T cut on paint it is too abrasive, try Meguiars 210.
I have a video on my channel using a Rotary with Meguiars PlastX.
Hi Andy, and anyone else watching thinking about a fix for fine scratches on the speedo and tacho plastics. I spoke with the watchmaker I work with and he uses Autosol metal polish, and a soft cloth for plastic watch glasses, which is thicker and more cost effective. Being a clockmaker and not working on watches, I didn't know this but I will use it on my bikes instruments in future. Thanks for all your efforts Andy, in providing us with a great channel 👍
Autosol is too abrasive...
Meguiars PlastX is the one you want.
I have used the Speedo Angels screen protectors several times but most of the time been thwarted by the dreaded air bubbles and took them off. The big success is the GS TFT as they do a Tempered glass protector that has no air bubble problem, more or less just lay it on and it sticks itself down with no bubbles.
Yes I had one on my GS but took it off in the end due air bubbles. Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared on the Kawasaki, so happy days!
I’m glad you showed the plastic polish tip. I have the same issue on my Z900RS so will defo be giving that a go.
Meguiars PlastX
Xerapol also a good product plastic polish but works amazingly on scratched to paint
Some screens have anti glare on them which polish can make them look like a map.
Good to read in the comments that the bubbles have gone, I would accept bubbles over scratches though. Being a big girls blouse these days, I don`t go out if the forecast is 10 deg or below. Take it easy Andy, because when your warm you can forget the tyres and the road are still cold. Hate to see you slip off on wet dead leaves and thump that shoulder. Japan vid one was good, Thank you.
Cheers Darren! Trust me my shoulder is upper most in my mind currently (painful!)….
If you use slightly soapy water in a spray bottle before you apply you may get better results.... for next time xD
Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
The subtle rumble of your Speed Twin snuck its way onto the audio, that’s such a beautiful sound.
It does sound great doesn't it - one of the cool things about that bike.....
Ha. That KIA driver impeded your ride twice. Probably turning around to go back and look for their front end. 😂
Was it the same one?? Not having a good day was she….
I think that was the worst application of a screen protector I've ever seen lol, no wonder there was air bubbles, much better to apply bit by bit from one side, pushing out the air bubbles as you go
Thanks for the advice!
Fitting the protective film can be a real pain in the ****, I fitted some to my RT panniers and it’s a right mess but that said it does what it’s supposed to do. I’ll take it off when I come to sell it. Your spannering skills are about 75% better than mine 😢
You have my sympathy in that case!
I think we'll need an update on the air bubbles! A light mist of a water with a couple of drops of washing up liquid in on the TFT before application then work from the middle out with a credit card as a squeegee worked for me on the GS using one of the speed angles protectors. I have a keis heated vest and it is a game changer as no matter how many layers you put on the vest will keep you warmer over the course of your ride and of course the heat is adjustable
The air bubbles disappeared after a day or two!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks, that's useful to know 👍
Read the instructions for the speed angle should spray with a little water and then start from apply protective cover from one side no bubbles on mine Andy 😀great little vid 👍
Cheers! Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
Love the variety on the channel, TMF. Never quite knowing what's coming up, (even after Parish Notices), has to be a good thing, right ? Thanks for the link, and to the person who recommended the Polywatch plastic polish. Could come in handy if and when I might need something along those lines. Noticed in a comment below that the air bubbles dissipated after a couple of days, so that looks like a win. Looking forward to Episode 2 of the Japan tour.
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching!
Lots of fun as usual! I would also replace the cheap plastic brake reservoir with a nice black aluminum Rizoma tank for low cost as you look at it proudly displayed high-up on a Triumph. This would match your navigation device.
Next, I would have tooted my horn for that stopped driver who seemed lost and confused at the intersection. Maybe he didn’t see you and would have suddenly darted-out in any direction without warning as they do here in Miami continually.
Lastly, I also have a wind squeal in my Schuberth helmet. It’s something to do with the vents.
Don’t let these guys harass you with petty problems comments😅! I enjoy your focus on detail for our fun hobby.
Thank you - appreciate that - I was well aware of the types of advice I would receive as a result of making this video!!! Gotta love the internet!
When using film protectors or applying stickers use something like a screenwash solution from a spray bottle to allow the film to slide into place and allow air bubbles to squeeze out with a squeegy rubber blade.
Thanks for the tip (which I was aware of as it happens was just being lazy). Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
I have the same scratches on my TFT, heading to Amazon. The RS is a lovely looking bike.
How did you get on with the scratches?
@fredgolbourn2074 The fine scratches disappeared, took a few attempts.
I wonder if the air bubbles will vanish, once they have had some warmth? (From the Sun, or at this time of year, by being slightly applied via a hair dryer) Because this does tend to happen with those transparent tank protector pads
As it happens they did disappear! Happy days!!
Hi Andy, I tried fitting the screen protectors to my SpeedTwin, what a nightmare, the glasses are slightly domed so no matter what I did they wouldn’t sit flat, and although Speed Angel said they could be fitted they were good enough to refund me.
Maybe that could be a future episode, you might need you bleep machine on max though. 😜
I have a feeling (withough checking) the Speed Twin ones are glass and therefore less prone to scratching - the Kawasaki ones are defo plastic. In the main the ST is better made than the RS.....
Handy vid TMF. Good tip about the watch polish. As for the screen protector, the bubbles would do my head in so if you can't get them out, I'd get another one & try again personally if they bug you too. On a separate note, I'm looking in to the Beeline as it seems a nifty little proposition.
Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days! …and yes the Beeline is a handy addition to a retro….
@@TheMissendenFlyer Excellent news. I'm an impatient perfectionistic git lol so there's a lesson for me there to just give things a bit of time maybe!
Andy, when riding the triumph, you can change channel to : Thewhistlingflyer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey what's up old man from the USA I know when I was investigating phones when 4G first came out I looked on RUclips for phone screen protectors you know there's liquid screen protectors give great protection always love your show splash channel you might want to look into that maybe I work for you hope that helps good luck
another useful tip for z900 painted tail - fit a piece of car PPF film over it...
Yes I’ll probably do just that and maybe to the sides of the fuel tank….
You can machine polish paint plus put ppf over that.
When I owned my small microlight aircraft.....the front wind deflector and crash hat visor.....Plexiglas polish.....the idea is that it fill minor blemishes.
Some say Pledge is just as good.
Acts as a lubricant to help stop future scratching.
This is why i never wipe my dash. Dosent matter how dirty it is. Its only clean when i wash the bike with the foam gun and light sprayer. Still looks new with no swirls.
Great upload Andy, I hope your shoulder is healing well? I will look out for the plastic watch glass polish as I'm sure I can get it through my business, being a Clockmaker! Not working on watches I hadn't heard of it and will discuss with my mate as he is the watchmaker. Thanks 👍
Thanks Michael - shoulder is very painful alas but apparently quite normal…gonna be a while before I’m back on two wheels 😔
@@TheMissendenFlyer hopefully the new Year will bring less pain better biking weather! I know how you feel, my rotator cuffs are suffering and will ultimately need surgery but am starting with injections next week. I'm going to have to sell my fireblade, I can't seriously ride it anymore and my interceptor to raise funds towards an adventure bike. They are so comfy and don't hurt so it makes sense. I hate to see them go as they were meant to be keepers.
I like the beeline products as well, although I only have one, with a mount on each of my bikes, I can´t ride them all at the same time anyway. As far as the polish goes, looks like a great product, for me it would be adequate just to polish the dials once a year, I am not a fan of these protective foils.
Keep up the good work and make sure the shiny side stays up.
Hmm optimate cables supplying heated kit! Now that’s a good idea.
I have recently purchased an optimate kit for the speedmaster as I am sure I will not be using as much as i would like. I purchased a different charger for the tiger, which I took off when part-x-ing it.
I was then advised by the salesman that they had an optimate connection in place so you only need to get a charger, they do it on all the bikes that go out!! So that’s what the other cable connected to the tiger was lol, if only they had told me when i picked that one up 🤣
Great little Vlog, I do enjoy these little bits of maintenance. Yes, like your good self, I think those air bubbles will seem to get bigger and bigger, but it seems as if the glass wax works, perhaps a clean with a drop of that every month or two would suffice. Also, the Beeline mount absolutely looks the part, and a good addition.
Weirdly the bubbles dissappeared after a few days of their own volition! So now very happy with my efforts.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer thats great news.
heat gun, plastic putty knife mash them out. good vid good ride like the heat feeels good not to freeze next time enjoying Japan ride.
Ok thanks. The only reason I asked was because I ride a scooter thats nearly 20 years old and I'm not too sure if the battery will handle it
You could take a very fine sewing needle and pop the bubble with a tiny little dab.
just about to put protection on my bike andy feel better now the air bubbles will go
Make a hinge with a bit of tape and "roll" the protectors on.
I've never managed to stick clear plastic tank pads on without gettng unsightly air bubbles. I'd rather a few light scratches on the clocks which, now you have the polish, can occasionally be gently polished out.
Fair enough!
Thanks for the great informative video. Just ordered me-self some polywatch ;) I think I'll try to use it also on the other plastic parts of the bike, as well as mobile phone screens, tv screens, laptop screens and what not. About your screen, I'd rather have a scratchy screen, than a bubbly one. If you watch some vidoes about how to put that on, I have a feeling you will do a much better job 2nd or 3rd time round. There is a technique, which I couldnt quite see you implement. Good luck and Godspeed!
Yes I’ve got a few uses for it!
After using the polishing compound, I suggest wiping the surface down with Isopropyl alcohol and water 1/2 and 1/2. With the fresh towel, that will remove the oils that are in the Polywatch. That is the final step detailers do before any PPF or wax or ceramic is applied. Great looking bike - Check out having a ceramic coating done on it. The newest ceramics have come a very long way in the past couple of years and now are almost magical in their protective qualities, and will last hundreds of washes, over many years.
Yes I have thought about that….still pondering!
I actually laughed out loud when you said 'spannering isnt your forte' and looked at the interceptor 😂
Glad you enjoyed it…..
Just the very best of motorcycle sites to watch all things bike. Your presentation is affable and professional. Production of your videos is always first class. Long may they continue to entertain us.
Thank you very much!
Yes, noticed the whistling on the sound while riding as well - not the quality we've come to expect 😉 I love that you managed to find the same driver twice while out - who wasn't having their best day.
I hope I don't meet her again!
I've looked at the keis heated jacket, but I've got gerbing heated gloves, will they work together?? Thanks, informative vid xx
Probably not....but I don't actually know (I also have a gerbring heated jacket which is good but won't work with my Keis gloves!)
Hi Andy. I can hear your Schubert C5 whistling into the Mic. I have one also. Apparently it's a known problem with the C5🙈
I didn't even notice it - probably had the vent open.....
Hi Andy , the first time I use a new microfibre cloth I rip the label off as these can scratch the clear coat ( ask me how I know 😀), the labels are hideously prone to scratch, so good practice to remove them. All the best & stay safe 👍👍
yes great tip!
@@TheMissendenFlyer 👍
“Chuffed.” Had to look that one up. I subscribe to ‘Emma Cruises’ - a girl in England who reviews sea cruises, even though I’ve never been on one. Just find it interesting. Anyhow, she usually includes one ‘Britishism’ in each of her videos, to educate us non-Brits. Just mentioning it in case it strikes your fancy…….
Cool - I'll look her up (is she cute?).....
Great content, i just got my z900rs 4 days ago, and im a bit anal about a spanking clean bike, the other night im using ear buds to get any dirt in the hard spots to get at....my wife comes in and says your kidding tone, ear buds, why don't you shagg your bike....😂,...lucky not like you i only have one bike....she would never see me...😂...god love her...
They don’t understand do they…..
Spray water on the LCD screen before putting the screen protector on…the protector floats until the water evaporates. Autosol also make a good plastic polish…certainly a bigger tube!
Thanks for the advice!
Hi Andy, if you have changed your tyres on you speed twin what did you use as I’m sure you will have done your research. Thank you. Mike 👍
I haven't changed them yet no - still plenty of life in the originals! I'll probably go Road 6 when I do.....
I have the Keis heated gear its magical!!
No more triumphs I bought a 2010 675R st thanks for your videos on them
Good choice!
Always use Speedo Angels, ace product 👍 Bought the wiffy a beeline sometime ago after seeing your review on it,not impressed with it,not easy to read at a glance and quite slow, probably o.k if you ride a pushbike, have tried it several times in various positions but feel a good phone mount or a decent nav is far safer. O and the price of a beeline, bit much for what it is,only our opinion 👍Still liking the channel Mr Flyer, Happy Christmas and Happy New year to you and yours 🎄🎄🥂🥂
...and to you Stephen!
For that price that gps display better be good. I'm kinda lucky, if I top that price with a few quid I can get the bluetooth module installed to my Steet Triple, so I can get the turn-by-turn navigation in an even bigger display.
Sounds good!
Yt is getting very funny these days, didn't realise that Japan vids were up.
Can't see why the algorithm would object to that, perhaps it objects to me??
Weird - are you subscribed with notifications on?
Hair dryer on the screen protectors. You'll find it easier to wipe the bubbles out 👍
Weirdly after a few days the bubbles disappeared, so happy days!
Interesting review, got me thinking about a polycarbonate polish we used (in the mid noughties) to polish the canopies of Tornado & Eurofighter jets , I used it to polish out the scratches on the fairing screen and clock faces on my Ducati 998, it produced the most amazing results making the screen and clock faces look like new ( worked brilliantly on my helmet visor as well) maybe as a pilot you might have come across something similar ?
Indeed I have!
Hundred of people screaming at the screen "Noooooooo!!!! Don't put them on dry!!!!" A little water with detergent in it works wonders. You can slide the protectors around and the squeegee the water out :-)
Always good advice from the internet - thanks for that 😜
Nice one Andy, it was like watching myself at work in the garage. Also, the finishing jingle is great.
Really pleased you like it!
You have a tube of polish , you have dozens of opportunities to continue removing little scratches,
If your clocks are marked, so is everyone else's going to be the same,
Unfortunately you may not be happy,
But that's life
What we can't change it's pointless worrying about 😅, did you have a budgie with you heard some whistling 😊
Deep!
Thought the airline was a little over the top - even by our OCD standards, Andy! Yours aye, Alan
It was at hand!
I have purchased two sets of Speedo Angels in the past. (Two different bikes). Didn’t work either time, not a fan.
Love the Beeline )
They’ve worked pretty well for me tbh - the bubbles I talked about disappeared on their own after a few days!
Meguiar's PlastX to clean and polish works great.
Paint protection film would cover it up without polishing out scratches. And it can be changed. If you buy a big sheet of it you can cover high wear areas. Like top of rear fender or sides of t and where knees hit.
Yes I am thinking about doing that....
Ok off subject, how many jackets and helmets have you got in that garage, I’ve got two helmets and 3 jackets and for me that’s too much choice 🤣 might sound like a dull video but I’d be interested if you went through all your gear and why and when, I dunno how you cope with all that stuff 🤣🤣
Hehe, yes well as a RUclipsr you do get sent quite a bit of stuff - in reality it's quite a small subset that I use regularly - I had been thinking about makib=ng a video on selecting biking kit as I have experienced quite a lot of different types by now (and as I can't ride at the moment due an operation on my shoulder last week it would be one I can make in the garage).....
For me this puts your integrity into question. When the screen protector company sponsored the channel they where the best and everyone should buy one.
Now that they do not sponsor the channel, we see you fit one and you questioned the quality, application and finish of the product.
You 100 percent were not sure with the product.
Now the bubbles have gone you’ve chanced your mind again.
Maybe I am over thinking it. However, just my opinion 😮
I think you are overthinking it! The bubbles have since disappeared of their own volition and I’m very happy with it.
Do you change the fuse in the Optimate connector when you use it for jacket and gloves?
No I do t though I probably should!
Hi Andy....noting that you do not get to ride all your bikes all the time, how often do you check your tyres on "resting bikes"....do you just leave until you are headed out?
Yes I tend to be a bit lax and when I remember I've not checked for a while I check them all...same for my cars.
Hi TMF. Most of your rides locally, your roads are wet and lots of crud on the road. Regards from New Zealand.
They are indeed - tell me something I don't know!
Hi Andy, love the bikes. Amazed at how many crash helmets you have hanging up. Do you use them all or are old ones? Thanks
In fact, the helmets hanging in the garage, I barely use it all! Many of them are quite old now and some are just surplus to requirements.
why not just skip the screen protectors and apply the polish every now and again?
Hassle mostly
I've not noticed a scratching problem on my RS.
Good - be careful not to wipe it with a dry cloth at any time!
I wonder if misting some pure water onto the screen before dropping the protector on would enable squeegeeing the bubbles out (like transfers) ? Does anyone know ?
Yes that is the recomended way to do it.....
You should've applied some soapy water with a spray bottle on the instruments before putting on the screen protectors, then you could've squeegeed out the air bubbles before they set.
Always good advice from the internet - thanks for that 😜
If you use a pin to puncture the bubbles and squeeze after they should almost disappear. YW
Weirdly the bubbles dissappeared after a few days of their own volition! So now very happy with my efforts.....
FYI next time you apply screen protectors do so slowly and use credit card to buff out any air bubbles before you proceed laying more of the protector down. You just did it to fast & recklessly this time 😂
Thanks for the info!
What you need to help when putting screen protectors on is to put some Isopropanol Alcohol IPA 99.99% on a cloth clean the area where your going to put your screen protectors allow it to dry the affix your screen protector as per manufacturer’s instructions
Thanks for the advice!
Searching for non-existent problems with a torch?
Well they were there - just didn’t show up so well.
Ready break is all you need….. central heating for kids 😂
Give you that orange glow around your parker of a morning on the way to school....
Keis only give a two year warranty, where as Gerbring has a lifetime warranty on the heating element fyi.
But hey, it's a freebie, so who cares 😂
That's a fair point (and nothing in life is free I can assure you)
Anytime working with stickers use a bit of dish soap so you can get the bubbles out.🎉
Thanks for the advice!
Put mine on after using a spray bottle onto the clocks, then you can move it to the exact space around the perimeter of the clock ,no bubbles
That is the recomended way.....
Daft question but what is the difference between the speed twin and the bonnivile
Too much to go into here!
Screen protectors are total rubbish, they are extremely difficult to get on without minute air bubbles and they begin to peel off after a short amount of time.
Actually I'm a fan of them!
Dam it, I was looking forward to TMF with a set of spanners!!
Next time!
Enjoyed "The Small Print" v5 😉
Glad you liked it!
Well to be honest you could have tried a bit harder when applying the scratch covers 😩
Thanks for that....
Use your good lady's hairdryer to help remove the air bubbles.
Incredibly the bubbles just disappeared after a few days, so happy days!
amazing car driving on show, was it a full moon when you filmed this?
Does make you wonder doesn't it!
Morning Andy and everyone else
Hi Andy, don't worry the bubbles will go away
They have!
Where can you get that flooring in your garage? Is it slippery at all when wet? Looking to get my garage floored at some point
Costco! And no not too slippery when wet…
Thank you Andy for you time to reply I will look into road 6 tyres 🙏👍
No worries.....
You need a long sleeve shirt under your heated jacket or you might be burnt. It does get very hot!
Yes good point actually....
Can any one share their experiece with a Beeline when it comes to multiple exits or round abouts.
Keen to get one not sure how they face up when there is more than one option to turn and it’s just not a simple case of 1st right or 1st left.
Yes I do find it can be a bit confusing in tricky urban set ups - a matter of getting used to it in different scenarios - but defo not as good as a full moving map type presentation in some circumstances.
For the scratches you did a great job. I would have left it at that and re polish as needed in the future 😅
Fair enough...
