haha love how excited you are that it worked, also love the fact the mouth and eye protection was ditched almost immediately :-)
Well it didn't produce as much of a cloud as I was expecting....and I was excited 'cos I thought it wasn't going to work...again!!!
I wouldn’t have cleaned and masked up three bikes without testing the new kit first...your joy when it worked was infectious.
Earlier this year took your advice and bought a bike dryer, it makes drying the bike so much easier, more thorough and faster. Also took your advice and have applied ACF50 to my bike. Guess I'll be taking your advice again and picking up paint sprayer for my compressor. Thanks for yet another fine video.....
Get a touch up gun, it's the same thing as the hvlp gun but smaller. Easier to get into tighter spaces on a bike
Great video, glad you got it all working. Just for information the rear adjustment screw adjusts the needle, undo it more for more product or less for less. The front adjustment screw is to adjust the cone of the spray. You can make the spray wide like a fan or make it a bit more direct and more narrow
Must stop watching these videos, it's costing me too much lol. Just bought a bike drier and now i'm on the verge of buying a compressor!
Seriously good and informative for serious bikers.
Use a leaf blower! I use my garden leaf blower, so at least has two uses 😂
Then the missus hairdryer for hard-to-reach bits.
Well done TMF. For anyone wondering why he was using ear protection using the dryer.
My other half is an audiologist and believe me the high pitch whistle noise from them (and when riding nonetheless) destroys your top end hearing when you’re old.
Pardon?
that's explains why I have trouble hearing the wife sometimes
DJ WARREN good one lol
And I thought it was something else that made me deaf.
Glad you got it sorted! Can’t believe how little you used. I finish by spraying onto a rag and wipe the exposed nuts and bolts around the wheels and brakes being careful to keep off the discs of course!
I like that you don't edit out blunders or make it seem like you are proficient in everything. Doing, messing up, eventually getting it right. Being human is a wonderful thing. Great fun and good info.
Hi TMF, just tried this out today myself. Works a treat. I've had a compressor for a while now (sand blasting, putting air in car tyres etc.). Got tired of pumping ACF50 by hand all over my bikes with the little atomiser that comes with the bottles. Bought a spray paint gun via Amazon for about £12 - what a difference to an otherwise tedious job. Big thanks for sticking to it (although I originally commented on Twitter that I would not persist on the air tool path).
Thanks, looks like a great way to apply ACF50. Any reason why you didn't remove the seats prior to spraying? Might be easier than covering them and gives an opportunity to spray bike internals from another angle.
CBA mainly!
@@TheMissendenFlyer lol
I just tried this for the first time today and it's so easy it's like cheating!! I sprayed it all over, then just wiped it over with a micro fibre towel to even it out a little. Done!
Something to note about ACF50: I looked in the garden sprayer bottle that I used a few months ago and the ACF50 has set solid. So make sure you store it in the bottle it comes in!
The learning curve is pointing the right way in a steep upward direction!! Thumbs up from Sweden.
"This is the bit the neighbours like", classic line. The TMF stable is an impressive sight when they're stood side by side. Top stuff again, thanks.
...and this line up was missing my beloved Street Triple (ACF'd in attempt one)....thanks for watching as ever Colin...
You need to connect the hose to the other compressor tap and use the regulator to regulate the air pressure to "low pressure" I normally use 15-30 PSI depending what im spraying
I wondered what all that was about - cheers - what's the function of both taps then?? (No instructions with the compressor)....
@@TheMissendenFlyer you can run multiple air lines off of the compressor if you like. most use only the regulated side.
Some air tools are high drain and need as much air as they can get. 20psi works great and you don't get a massive cloud of the stuff. You'll use less as well.
@@TheMissendenFlyer The left tap is full pressure (tyre pressure gauge, air gun ect) and the right tap is the regulated tap for spraying. If the knob is wound all the way in it'll be full pressure, unscrew it and select you're pressure...... The pressure in the line won't drop when lowering the pressure untill you release the line pressure...... Just press the spray trigger when lowering the pressure
@@homersimpson2620 what he said lol
Good video TMF but...Instead of the spray gun try an air brush, they’re around £6-10 on Amazon. More accurate and you need less air pressure 20-30psi . Also, remove the wheels and do them by hand with a brush, spokes and hubs as well. If you need to removed the brake pads give them a good clean with brake cleaner and apply copper slip before putting back in, do the sliders as well. With the wheels removed you can spray the callipers and inside the swinging arm getting the ACF50 in all the right places. Remember to clean the discs with brake cleaner afterwards.
Looks like its a great way to apply the ACF50 though I'll stick to the manual application as its cheaper them buying a compressor. Also you had the mask on upside down, the metal strip is to pinch over the bridge of your nose to stop it slipping off.
This series with your sense of humor has me cracking up!!! Outstanding!! And glad it worked out!!!
Also take seats off and spray electrics and frame undeneath, use a detail brush to do the brake calliper metal and fasteners and wipe the wheels..the thickness of it helps not get on tyres and discs/pads. Certainly do the fasteners on the calipers if nowt else but i paint the whole caliper and the detailing brushes £5 on ebay for 5 dont fall apart and allow u to get behind the caliper. I spray all the underside of my plastics too and when you come to wash the mud/crud just slides off. In between acf 50 which i do twice a year i use gt85. Its briliant but does wash off so regular application required. Compressor air gun will also do the same job as your hoover drier😃
Don’t forget to drain the compressor after you’ve finished or it’ll get water build up in it and rust inside. There should be a small tap on the bottom of it. No charge for that advice. 😉
Nick Diggory Can you spray ACF50 into it?
Iain Murray I’m not sure to be honest Iain. I don’t think it would do any harm though.
Might be better with some fogging oil
I tried this method at the weekend with amazing results. It atomizes the ACF-50 really well...great advise.
It's a good idea to check out what pressure goes through the gun, I have one like yours & it's 45-55psi, you can set that on the compressor on the regulated gauge. The screw on the back of the gun is for paint flow & the one by the side is air , so you can get the right mix. I looked in to getting my Harley dine by an agent & it was going to involve travelling a 100 mile, paying 80quid, so I bought my 50litre compressor from Lidls for 90 & got a selection of tools , tyre gauge, spray gun, blow gun, & a paraffin gun (the ref one like yours) for 25 quid from Screwfix, just had to put connectors on the end. Well done you done a good job 👍👍😎
Cheers Geoff - my compressor came with all that included...a multitude of uses as it happens, I'm now very happy with it. Thanks for watching as ever!
@@TheMissendenFlyer nearly at a 100 thou subs, hell of an achievement 👍👍👍👍👍
Man, I’m glad I saw this video. I just ordered acf 50 and man that stuff is expensive! This is a nice way to save some on it
I’ve just bought a compressor to apply acf50 and do my tyre pressures as it’s the bane of my life 😂 hopefully I can find some more uses for it
How come, bud? Is the compressor a faff for some reason? I wouldn't mind one for tyres etc. Where did you get one and how much? I've seen online pretty cheap.
@@neiljowen sorry, I think it’s 24 litre and £130… either way it’s worth every penny to me.
TMF, top adjuster will be for the needle, so how far you can pull the lever in, which affects how heavy the spray will come out. Other one is for the fan size, bigger the fan, the wider the spreader and vice versa 👍
Excellent video - have done all three of my bikes following this approach - including a new GSA. I was pretty shocked at just how bad the BMW is for rust starting! Its done maybe 15 miles from new, was washed after its maiden run, garaged an then washed as above, and thankfully ACF50'd.... the other two bikes are Italian and have nothing like the corrosion issues I could see with the BMW!
Crikey!
Success at last! To be honest, after watching the first couple of attempts with the spray gun, i thought it was going to be a repeat of the first time...i was expecting a laugh and that sounds like an idea for another video....out takes, there must have been plenty. By the way, i would have kept the safety glasses on and those paper masks are pretty much useless unless you super glue it to your face!
Hurrah!! It worked....I usually remove the seat when I’m doing my bikes because ACF 50 is good for insulating the electrical connections under the seat. It also means there is no danger of getting the slippery stuff on the seat. Great vid as usual TMF
Yeah I do usually but CBA as I was doing three and in a bit of a hurry....(Panigale and CRF seats are a bit of a pain to take on and off)
Told ya! Done my Vstrom in 10 mins tonight also. Such a quick and clean way to reproduce good coverage.
This product is used extensively by motorcyclists and boat owners here; it was originally developed for aeronautics use. It will not remove existing corrosion or rust. It will prevent corrosion and rust very effectively, however it is not a paint; it is the consistency of a light lubricant. I apply it 2-3 times a year to my motorcycle. An excellent product. Here in Oz, ACF-50 Anti-Corrosion Lubricant Compound - is available in a handy13 oz Aerosol, treats three bikes each season.
Where do you buy it?
link below the video
"Cleaned within an inch of its life" awesome quote buddy.
👍 Don't forget the wheels, especially the spoked wheels. By hand obviously.
Like a kid at Christmas ! - Well done for giving us the 'out takes' as you went.
Congratulations on 100k subscribers TMF - Thanks for all your videos🍾
I guess I can use the same method to apply FS365. Will give it a go.
You appear to get more excited washing motorcycles than riding them.
Black not painted plastics and all kinds of rubber gaskets or hoses, benefit a lot from ACF 50. It protects them from drying and cracking. It also restores deep natural black color. Not to mention, protects from salt and elements.
When the PPE was ditched almost immediately, I wondered if this was going to turn into an episode of Casualty.
Yep. Didn't even last the first bike! Still, all's well yhat ends well.
It’s always amusing to see what little things get us excited good job done we’ll start a small side line in acf50 application
I use a spray gun to apply the ACF 50. Atomises well and uses a lot less. Much better than the bottle and cloth method. You'll be at it all the time now.
I watched Bennits test on protection for bikes , the test took months to do . The results showed that XCP was the best , it was significantly better than AC50 and the shine on the bike was brill.
Jolly good - I'm very happy with ACF50 long term....
You need to train up Miss TMF as an ACF sme applicator, she showed great potential in the last vid.
I call that a win! You are in the newest Yammie Noob vid programming rider modes on a bike.
Really? Ill check that out (he never asked!)
Watched this and have brought some ACF50. I also purchased a couple of small compressor spray guns to make it easier getting in and about the engine. Haven't tried them yet but the quality looks good.
EBAY: HVLP Air Gravity Spray Paint Gun Set W/ 2 Sprayer Paint Nozzle 1.0 mm + 0.8 mm
Good luck!
So I tried the spray guns and their great. Easy to get in and about the engine and worked straight out the box.
A great result! Must do mine again..but as only one bike, a bottle the size of yours will last a decade or so! Those twiddly bits adjust the flow and spray pattern
Bloody glad we don't have to do that in Australia.
Just watch out for UV paint fade 😂
This isn't a hugh inconvenience for us both in uk or wet countries like Ireland or Europe. Its actually nice as we get to clean all the bike very thoroughly
Yep well done, great to have a captive audience to let you know what to do ! ;-)
Congrats mate. I was crossing my fingers for you. 😁
Looks like the best if not the most expensive way to apply ACF50, i'll probably stick with my £7 flairosol for the time being tho!
I'm so glad your happy with the applicator, I knew you would.
Good man! A bit of perseverance goes a long way! Now try it on MrsF...keep her sparkly for the Christmas period at Flyer Manor! 😉😉
:0)
Camera quality was outstanding.A pleasure to watch outside film. Not the GoPro 7 then.
Actually that was shot entirely on the GoPro 7!
Oh the joys of your first compressor - you'll find all sorts of unnecessary uses for it . I just like the blokey tool involvement and the whole expanded tool buying opportunities - nail guns and impact wrenches etc. The only problem with them is the row they make. Too noisy for a workshop really. I pushed the boat out and bought a Jun-Air dental compressor - makes about the same noise as a fridge - opens up another world of possibilities. As ever another well crafted, informative vid.
Love the phrase "blokey tool involvement and the whole expanded tool buying opportunities." - so true.
Brilliant the last attempt had my sides aching with laughter I'm pleased you got there in the end !
Hi TMF, glad it worked out for you this time. From past experience with spoked rims you should really get some ACF on those spokes and nipples, I’m not sure if they are stainless steel on the CRF?? If they are fine but if not I would recommend really getting something on them, I learnt the hard way. They can corrode really bad at this time of year. I take the wheel off and brake disc off and spray loads on my DRZ rims, then apply ACF grease to the nipples. Looks really awful but wash it off in spring and looks like a new rim still.
Did mine the same and it makes a mundane job really enjoyable.my advice would be to watch a few videos on setting up a paint gun. Just set it up like you would for paint and I agree no need to warm the acf50 or anything else.
YOU GOT THIS, Mr. Flyer ! Good work ! I was cheering for you from the other side of the screen.
Ohhhhhhh! Now I’m going to have to get myself a compressor. I do mine with the standard spray but that looks way better.
Regarding saving money it’s £69.00 a bike at my BMW dealer so your compressor has probably already paid for itself. Great video again!
That pained expression, Chief - it seems the goodly sauce has struck terror into your soul!
Wa Hey, well done TMF, been waiting for this one, worked a treat. The screw you twist3 at the back of your gun pulls the needle backwards allowing more liquid through and adjusting the spray pattern from a wide to a narrow fan. Painted a few cars in my time you know !!
Well done, just ACF’d my GSA (the old fashioned way) but then I’ve only one bike, but it was all thanks to you and one of you previous vids. Thanks again good job, cheers buddy 👍🏍
"This is how you should do this, but I'm not going to bother with all that"........ my kind of chap!!! Awesome!!!
Brilliant didn't think something so simple could provide so much joy. Well done if you don't first succeed etc.
Great video I used my compressor to apply acf 50 though I still warmed the acf 50 up and turned the compressor down to about 50psi keeep up the good work 👍
Might want to get yourself a Bambi compressor near silent running, and received my neck scarf many thanks 🤘
Be careful with it - they drive the ladies wild!
Very helpful thanks. I'm about to ACF50 my partner's bike and mine, and I also have a compressor on the way related to this so I'm pleased to see this works.. have a good Christmas
TMF thanks for the vid; I have been debating whether or not to invest in a compressor; now i'm convinced. With AFC 50 being a precious as myrrh I would think that a fugal spread using a compressor would pay for itself in a couple of seasons. With the added bonus of being able to use it for drying and tyre inflation etc.
I love it how you start of with good H&S intentions with mask and glasses and then by the end you have ditched them!!!
Glad you got there in the end. I’m going to order my spray gun and do mine this weekend.
I use acf50 but it works better when applied regularly. It's a mission but have to get on with it.
Always enjoy your vids mate. Just had a new 790 Duke delivered and was going to do it, but, knowing my luck it would be a disaster. So getting all year biker to do it for me. 👍
Hmmm, it was having "All Year Biker" do mine that convince me to "DIY" in future!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Ah, I see. I hope it’s worth the money. Fingers crossed. 👍
Success! Saved a fair bit of trigger finger and a neater job all round.
Brilliant, gravity fed gun from Machine Mart for less than £15, mist gets everywhere, I didn't bother covering the wheels just took care and cleaned discs after with white spirit, I hate seeing rusty wheel bolts and wheel speed discs. 😁👍
HI TMF forgot to say regards the spray gun the screws on the back of the gun one for pressure and one for fan width,
Excellent bit of advice!
Great vid will be trying this at the weekend👍o maybe it's just me but I do hate ads half way through a video is this a new thing for your channel😏
RUclips decide when and where (and what) ads to post....I have very limited control.
Job well done. The metal parts look incredible.
Well done, that was fun to watch. You soon binned the ppe too. I've watched enough clips, I need to get the big ktm coated with ACF50 now. Thanks for the motivation 🖖
Lol. Had to watch it twice for the laugh. Loved the excitement and I thought for a minute that the compressor was going to get a coat. Well done.
Just been watching the latest list from Yammie Noob and a snippet from one of your vlogs is on there. 👍
The goggles and mask soon disappeared 🤣
Great video.
Especially as I've just paid £150 for two bikes to be cleaned and treated.
Might be well worth me investing in a kit of my own.
Yes someone else mentioned that - I must check that out!
Well done! Such persistence should be rewarded.
Good to see it work this time, you look chuffed with yourself, nice one.
Whilst hold the trigger sweep motion and count in your head 1-2-3 then release . Get a more uniform coverage and then let it creep for 2hrs minimum. Polish with micro fibre cloth.
It is high velocity low pressure! You should give painting a go now u have the gear! The knob u twizlled is the needle adjustment which allows the fluid out the cup the 2 little horns on the front have little air holes that hit the liquid as it comes out and creates your spray fan. You shoudl take it all apart and clean it properly so it doesnnt clog up
Glad you managed to get the compressor sorted it looks much easier a better finish and no doubt a lot quicker, took me all day to sort two bikes on Sunday wish I had watched the video before, question is do I go buy a compressor today 🏍👍🏼
I think the answer is yes.
Definitely, I got a small 25lt one from the cash and carry places for about £35. I used it so much I ended up buying a 250lt one. Wouldn't be without it but for the hobbies the small one will do.
What about the brake caliper bolts + banjo bolts, brake disc bolts, mudguard bolts etc TMF? I use a small craft brush to apply a layer of ACF50 on these too as they are particular areas that are prone to corrosion. As long as you're careful, you won't then get any residue on your discs/pads/tyres. I agree that applying it is best before & after winter following a thorough clean 👍. IMHO a layer over the paintwork aids pant protection from dirt/grit on the plastics & tank. The hex bolts that secure the fuel filler are also an area that require use of a brush often to apply it evenly. I also coat the entire exhaust system.... That creates an interesting spectacle after starting up during the "excess burn phase!" "Mmm, I love the smell of ACF50 in the morning.... Smells like victory!" 😁
Yeah I agree - if I'd had more time I would have done exactly that - I do cover the whole exhaust system (and love that smell of a freshly ACF'd bike!)....
I wouldnt really, may risk creep to brake surface or pads
Boom! That's how you do that! :-D I've since found a video from the makers of ACF50 in Canada who supply a long flexible applicator tube with a spray nozzle to get deep into the nooks and crannies of the bike but what's the point? You totally nailed that. Great stuff! :-) Note to self - get a bike dryer.....
glad it worked this time but I think you need to adjust the fan/spread of the gun a little. seems abit tight. one knob controls the flow/feed another will be the spread of the fan from the nozzle.
Yes I'll have a play with that next time, I was just so glad it worked at all!
I take the saddle off and do under there, lots of electrics live there and need protection too. Also using a spray gun to do my Interceptor in a day or two.
Simple pleasures TMF, simple pleasures! Now I’ve got to head out and get one of those compressor beauties! Yours aye, A
Great result … love the idea of using your age on the number-board of the CRF : )
Easy.......
Hey bud , turn the pressure down fluid wide open and fan about 3" wide . Be much easier to apply then :)
Paint gun is on my list of stuff to get anyhow, i've got some auto paint projects this summer.
Great video and glad the new sprayer was a complete success. I think you need to leave the bikes in the garage until you have raked up the leaves on your garden LOL.
Tell me about them - the perils of having trees....(believe it or not I swept up before I made this video!!)
I feel sorry for you guys in Blighty. So glad we don't need to do this sort of thing in Australia. I cant imagine having to prepare my bikes for winter. Strewth! the thought! But in saying that, I guess its a lot better than having a kangaroo hop in front of you whilst riding, & you then die. March of this year, a mother of a kangaroo jumped out in front of me at 60kmh (I was doing 160 only seconds earlier) on my RR. It fell over just in front of me as it realised we were going head-on. I swerved and missed it. Only seven days later, the news reported a motorcyclist on the M4 in Sydney died when a roo jumped out in front of him. The RR was sold in Oct of this year, hence the decision why. I guess ACF50 maintenance would be a much better chore to behold than any roo accident. Loved the animated look on your face Mr Flyer about getting it all working! Cheers groover!
Sold the Triumph Sprint GT (250 + KM/H) for the BMW F 800 GS Adventure (160 KM/H Max) and now go hunting roos in Western Australia.
Right that's my next job to do sorted so...thanks for the great follow up video
Hi TMF great vid, I can't talk the missus around to forking out for a compressor, I watched a vid for a flairosol spray bottle, looks like a cheep alternative I will give that a go!!
I knew this was "serious stuff" when I saw the green flying overalls were on! Won't be selling the compressor on eBay now?
Like the tarmac area better than the stones!
Nice, that looks so much easier, less messy and more efficient than how I've been doing it. Nice one :-)
I know I'm late to the party.. just an observation here.
1) you can use just the compressor and a nozzle to "dry" the bike off (but that heater unit looks dickty!) I use a long (400mm? nozzle and a rubber hose to cover the metal end - Machine Mart, just add your hose to the tip)
2) Hopefully the bike was riden before to get engine/oil/fluids up to temp. Many folk, myself included, have warmed the bike just on the stand - I am now an absolute convert to NOT do that, UNLESS you have a fan (bigger the better) blowing over the front thru the radiator. The reason for that is, you eliminate localized overheating aroud the engine. Your Speed Triple is a perfect example - the exhaust pipes will burn the belly pan and possibly the back side of the front mudguard as well as the back side of the tyre. So, advice, NEVER leave bike to warm up unless there is ample air flow around the hot bitz (use a fan to simulate air flow like you're riding)
3) Be cautious when washing your beauty (beauties) when using normal tap water. I know for a fact that the water in SE England is so hard that you can sharpen knives with it. When I was living 7oaks, I used a water butt to collect rain water and I used that, not the tap water. Currently, Isle of Man, the water is so, so, so, so... soft. You can use it in you rads, so be weary of the hard salts in your local tap water.
Besides that, 👍👍
Thanks for your videos.
nice selection of beers there matey, essential when bike cleaning
Never though to put it in a spray gun before. A good idea with clearly much better results. But I must say, your technique looks like you pulled the trigger on the compressed air gun just as much as the old pumper you get in the kit haha. But good work I need to get into a routine using acf 50 now ive got a new bike. Thanks for the video top tip!
Awo no I have to buy a compressor now hahaha I will tell my wife not just for the bike to top up the car tyres aswell 😋😂 Great stuff I’m telling every one I know about ACF50 kept my bike rust free last winter.
I use motul ez lube for this kind of protection stuff. I works nicely. I recommend that.
