    Walked up to him at a Toronto nightclub few years ago. He bought me a drink and talked to me for almost an hour as if i was the only person in the club. Definitely a wild man lol but also seemed like one of the most down to earth genuine ppl ive ever met. Thanks again for the drink Mickey!!!

      I can confirm your take on him as down to earth and genuine. Within a year of him filming this interview and the same week that he won the Golden Globe for The Wrestler, he ended up at a nightclub in NYC's meatpacking district I used to frequent. He spent the entire evening at our table and I got to talk to him for most of the night. I came away from that thinking what a great guy he is. So humble, grateful, honest, and funny. I also spent a lot of time at Socialista, the club where this interview was filmed, but didn't run into him there. That was a fantastic little spot for a New York minute.

    Mickey Rourke has a heart of gold..
    He used to own a fancy nightclub on South Beach back in the 90's, at the end of the night, on Mickey's orders no food was to be thrown in the garbage but instead was to be given to the homeless..
    I'll never forget that, I'm doing way better now but I'll never forget how thoughtful his gesture was at that time..
    Mickey Rourke is the real deal..
    Miami remembers..

    I think Mickey Rourke had a huge following who never stopped being fans no matter what he went thru as an adult actor.
    We still love you Mickey. Seemed like the character you played in Diner really captured your true essence.

      I finally watched it this week, and afterwards I wanted to call everyone I know and berate them for not demanding I watch it sooner. Dunno how that movie slipped under my radar so long. Great performance, and the story is gut wrenching. KInda hated the ending but it had to end that way. It will forever be on my must-watch list.

      I like her very much, young and beautiful and also old and broken. There are people whose lives run to a dead end, but the talent is still there.. Excellent actor, this report is fantastic.
      Many good-for-nothing people are at the top, even though they have nothing to do with it, but if he gets an Oscar, he will stay at the top, if not for a while!

    Had the pleasure of knowing Mickey for a while in his early years while he was filming Rumblefish. Sold him his first bike, a Triumph twin, which had been modded and was akin to a streetfighter nowadays.

      Piers? Nah. This was an easy interview for him, sort of going low level "pro", asking good questions, simply being... human, once in a while.
      Usually he is not that, especially involving politics. Don't mistake that one time of "kindness" for his weakness, or something that he is doing all the time. Piers is not that guy, never has been. Just once in a while (out of other 99%) he can pull something good. But never mistake that for something that he is doing all the time. He is not. Far from it.

    Back in the day, Mickey Rourke was bigger than Brad Pitt and George Clooney (and a much better actor).
    He had looks, talent and a certain degree of danger about him, which is sorely lacking with today's stars.
    Modern actors try to act cool and tough, but they're kind of a joke.
    Rourke was the real deal.

      I agree. He was absolutely so real, so himself that yes, acting was easy for him. He was so real, everything about that movie was so real, I had to keep reminding myself that it was just a movie. He made the pain real and being out in the cold real. I think I weeped through the whole movie. Yes, I know I did.
      This is 3 years after this interview. Haven't followed movies and seldom go to a movie or download one. I'll be going back over the last 5 years or so and see if I've missed anything.

      I agree. This interview is one of the most sincere and honest I've seen. He speaks with truthfulness and it was obvious he endured a great deal of sadness and maltreatment when a child. It breaks my heart for him but he has helped a great many people who saw this. He was very accurate when he points out the trauma and negativity stays with a person; it doesn't go away. It's not the flu. His films are so well done. It is hard for me to watch, "The Wrestler", without weeping.

    Worth to mention is that Piers really validates Rourke here, true validation, and that's why the interview becomes so great. Because he isn't bullshitting and is having an honest talk with another human being. Well done.

    He is an amazing actor. What he did in the Wrestler was beautiful. That performance was incredible. There was nothing holding back his passion. I would have loved to see him win the Oscar for it.

      @@digitalhoard1975 That's what I love about the craft of acting and the art of filmmaking, you can show so many layers and completely change ones perspective. Not only was it a come back for him as for as a leading roll, it also showcased vulnerability and just how versatile he could be. That scene with his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) was a shot to the heart.

    I was at a gym in Hollywood about 24 years ago and the guy beside me asked me to spot him on the shoulder press... It was Mickey Rourke. The only time I've been star struck. What an actor!

    The first movie I saw w Mickey Rourke was Rumble Fish. I had already read the book, so was looking forward to the movie. It was full of the best actors, but his performance as Motorcycle Boy, a fiercely intelligent person who didn't mind being alone inside their own head, was spot on. He's a great actor, greater than most, and deserves massive respect for his work.

    I've watched probably thousands of interviews but this one is in it's own league. Listening to Mickey is like watching an outstanding movie. His life story is so rich every sentence he says or even word carries a lot of weight. Not a big fan of Piers but he did a great job here

It was not a big success like his other movie before it called 9 & a half weeks. Anyway , In an interview for the movie a prayer for the dying. Rourke was asked some questions about the northern Ireland conflict and his reply was ' The money I was paid for this movie has been given to the IRA , Well most of it anyway'. After this got out , Rourke was banned from entering the UK . This has been admitted by Rourke himself who went on to say that he was not supporting the IRA but he was supporting his character...!!

    I have always loved Mickey Rourke as an actor, and person. He is true to himself, and growing up in a similar family environment. I know all too well how a person can carry some of their childhood truma into their adult life. Rumble Fish is my favorite movie he's done. If u haven't seen it. He does a tremendous role in this film. Saw it at the theater, and still watch it today. Glad to see him back on top.

    Wow , I'm Impressed . Its been my experience that super talented people do have airs and graces to one degree or another . This man is something very different , not an arrogant or pretentious bone in his body anywhere and its not a feigned humility either . Mickey Rourke is the real deal . Everyone deserves happiness , I hope Mickey finds contentment joy and peace in whatever it is he choses to do now . We of coarse would love to see him in more films . Thank you for this video, I for one learnt a lot about Mickey I didn't know . The man is absolutely amazing and he is most certainly a survivor.

    That is a fascinating and totally honest interview. I can not say that I have EVER seen an actor be so honest in an interview. He is at home with himself, and he understands his past, and he is grateful to be an actor, and he is aware that he is a damn good actor;-- and it is his raw acting talent that carried him thru all his mistakes. As you watch, look at how he is truly listening to Piers. He is not distant, or bored, or arrogant at all. So even as life dealt him some setbacks, he has LEARNED from them. He is a wise man now.

    Great interview. Pierce Morgan, too, has had his ups and down, too...in his career. But mickey and Piers do have one thing in common. They never give up on being who they are : amazing talents.

      He is, he and Steven Tyler are very similar in the way they act in real life, you d think huge stars, but man they are so humble, so down to earth, they treat you with respect, and they are not arrogant, they don’t just shake ur hand, they make sure to have a real conversation with you! That’s the similar experience I had with both of them and I met some celebs due to my job , the other surprise my cool guy was Michal JAckson, I was shocked at how not weird and humble he was also, and the voice, normal dudes voice! So you are right on with your intuition on Mickey !

      @@derekweinerttv4163 yeah but Mickey was iconic in the 80s and early 90s. It's always a combination of stuff not just performance. They are both very different actors to have them compared side by side anyway. I really like Nortons diversity but you can't beat Rourke's swagger.
