Sugar Bowl INCREDIBLE game ending l Texas vs Washington

  • Sugar Bowl Texas vs Washington, one of the most nail biting finishes I've ever seen. Washington tries to run out the clock, but player suffers injury to stop the clock at the worst possible moment giving Texas 50 seconds to drive the field. Washington punter also gave kick/catch interference to set Texas up.

    Two unbeaten teams in the final. Texas never looked like winning until 20 seconds from the end. The stop to hold them to a field goal was crucial. Still perplexed by the clock management by the huskies. Threw on 3rd down and stopped the clock just before going 37-28 in front. Huskies deserved it, Texas were cut to bits with the long ball.

    • @TropicalLaser21
      @TropicalLaser21 8 месяцев назад +8

      It wasn’t the huskies fault the clock stopped. The RB Dillon Johnson got hurt which forced them to use a timeout for injury. Hope he has a good recovery, and losing him will be tough in the chip vs Michigan

    • @flynnnnnnnnnnn
      @flynnnnnnnnnnn 8 месяцев назад +8

      @TropicalLaser10 absolutely, but I was talking about the previous drive, they threw on the play before the field goal to go 9 ahead, you are right for sure, the team bleeding the clock always appears to be unfairly disadvantaged by stopping the clock for an injury. I think the best team won to be fair, and they do have a chance in the final, they have been written off all year, especially in the last 2-3 games. Oregon were supposed to beat them, and it was a similar game to this, jumped ahead and held on.

      Sorry I paused the recording on the injury, but Washington runner went down and it stopped the clock. Sarky could have let 10 seconds run off because of this, but elected not to give it to them (obviously). Washington took a huge risk running the ball instead of maybe running a bit in the backfield and kneeling to get the extra few seconds. This was one of the worst case scenarios outside of fumbling

  • @redmustangredmustang

    Washington was the way way better team and Washington just almost gave the game away. NEVER should have gotten to the point of UW having the chance to lose...UW Coach MADE Terrible decisions.
    1. UW should NOT thrown a "Incomplete Pass" on their 2nd to last Drive...should have run the ball and FORCED Texas to use their LAST TimeOUT.
    THEN, when UW got the ball back...Texas would have NO TO left...and UW could have run the time out.
    2. BUT, in UW's Last possession (even with Texas having a TO), they could have just taken a Knee 3x in a row, which would left ONLY 15 seconds left after the PUNT.
    3. Running into the Return man did not help at all either.

    Incompetent play calling for both teams in the final minutes. On 3rd and 10 deep in Texas territory Washington throws an incomplete pass saving Texas from using their 2nd timeout (or losingb40 seconds). Then failing to take knees on the final drive costs them another 35 seconds. The failure to take knees is even worse when u consider all the bad things that could happen. Not only can u fumble. Not only can u sustain an injury and stop the clock, but u can also draw an offensive penalty that stops the clock. Inexcusable coaching breakdown. Now it's Texas' turn. They have 4 shots from the 12 yard line and NONE of them result in a catchable pass in the end zone. An inexplicable dump off pass for no gain that would have been a disaster if tackled in bounds. Then a pass out of the end zone. Then the QB barely dumps the ball to the sidelines before being sacked. Then a final 4th down throw out of bounds in the end zone. 4 plays where the offense didn't even give itself any chance to score. Probably the worst coached final minute in the history of college football.

All you do is take 4 kneel downs and run out the clock...if Texas gets the ball back, they will be on their own 44 with maybe 10 seconds left - or putt out of bounds on 4th down and pin them back inside their own 20 with 10 seconds left. Running the ball with potential fumbles and injury timeouts was a stupid coaches move.

    • @ddebenedictis
      @ddebenedictis 8 месяцев назад +1

      College football clock stoppage rules state that the game clock stops when (among other things) there is a ruling of an incomplete forward pass. I find no mention of distinctions about the ball first crossing the boundary versus hitting an object or the ground. So in their review, the refs observed that a ref signaled the pass was incomplete when there was still one second left.
      Like you, i was reminded of a previous scenario where 1 second loomed large (although a completely different situation)...2013 Iron Bowl.

    • @zork999
      @zork999 8 месяцев назад

      Putting the second back on was the correct call. Looking at the replay two might have been more correct. Too bad Ewers did not connect with his receiver on that play as time would have definitely run out. The chance of the Texas receiver scoring if he caught the ball is very low as the UW defender was right there to push him out of bounds.

      @@RJCE420 No problem I got you on speed dial. Washington will have no problem getting a quality QB from the portal after they win the National Championship and Penix runs for the NFL. Btw I'm no Washington fan but I've seen what the transfer portal did for all of the final 4 teams. Also the NCCA removed the one year sit out penalty in 2021 to transfer portal players. Not sure that NIl was suppose to turn into a bidding war between teams but so be it.

      If they went for it and didn't make it, that would guarantee their loss. With a 9 point game the smart move is to take the chipshot field goal and hope to get the ball back for one final drive to make a touchdown. Despite not recovering the onsides kick, it almost worked out for them! On Texas' last touchdown before the field goal, they should have went for 2 because it would have made for an 8 point lead when Washington kicked their last field goal. And if they missed the 2 point conversion they would have basically been in the same position either way

Theyve got to come up with a better way go determine a champion. Going to 8 team playoff hopefully will help. If you put either 1 of these teams thats about to play for the championship game in the SEC, neither team comes out undefeated. Im definitely no georgia fan, but if only have 1 loss in the SEC and thats to a top 5 alabama and yet youre left out of the dance, how can you really say the winner of the championship game is the champion?
