It's increadible because the punchline is strongly alluded to from the beggining and you never get any misdirection whatsoever. It's an amazing antijoke
No i don't think it's set up or agreed before, but Ricky definitely brings out this side of Karl, when you watch him in interviews alone he acts not different but not as weird because he isn't being asked weird stuff constantly
He brings it up so often and it boggles my mind, there's actually a lot of stuff he gets wrong and by sitting next to Karl it makes him sound less wrong to people.
I see a lot of people saying that Ricky is wrong about chimps and thumbs. The truth is that he is right or wrong depending on your definition. “Opposability is present to some degree in most primates but varies considerably in its functional effectiveness as an instrument of fine manipulation. Humans and baboons are preeminent in this respect. The apes, having short thumbs and long fingers, are handicapped in relation to delicate manual dexterity but are adept in the coarser elements of hand use, particularly in relation to tree climbing.”
In pretty much every other first world country the fact that Americans need to pay for basic and essential medical care out of their own pockets blows people’s minds. Even in your most recent presidential debate, the moderator questioned Biden about ‘socialised’ (universal) healthcare with a tone that indicated it was some CRAAAAAZY and obviously bad policy that no one on Earth could possibly support. The USA’s healthcare system is awesome - if you’re rich. For everyone else it’s a bankruptcy factory. I know you already know this but yeah
@BasementBeginnings You may want to double check that, because I did. "Opposable thumbs are shared by many primates, including most simians, and some prosimians. The climbing and suspensory behaviour in orthograde apes, such as chimpanzees, has resulted in elongated hands while the thumb has remained short. As a result, these primates are unable to perform the pad-to-pad grip associated with opposability." Chimps have thumbs, but not opposable thumbs.
@ThatGuy1116 - you don't need insurance for medical care in the UK. You pay for it through income tax, whether you have used it that year or not. A far superior system than whatever mess the USA now has.
Karl's actually on something about the time thing... I think it happened to a King or a Lord or something like that. He saw himself coming down the road on a horse, then 10 years later he was doing the same thing, recalling what he'd seen years earlier. Died in some war like the same day
Yes it is, I have personal experience. I needed to see an ENT badly. It wasn't an emergency, if by emergency you mean I didn't have blood pouring out of my ear, nose and throat. I didn't get an appointment for 2 MONTHS. If I was in Europe, I could have called the doctor at his house, on the weekend, at night, and gotten an appointment for the next day. Here, you can't go until your insurance clears. No, it's not "free", but you save money on monthly insurance claims, so it makes up for it.
a chimps thumb is but a stub in proportion to it's fingers unlike a humans which has a large thumb in relation to its fingers, and while it may technically oppose the fingers it really doesnt allow the grip or precision of a human thumb/finger combo. This is what gervais is implying.
@asgerronholm yeah they do, but they don't have the precision grip is what I think Ricky meant. A chimp can swing a hammer but it can't work with small tools.
almost all primates have opposable thumbs used for grasping things, especially tree branches, and picking up things. Humans, apes, and most monkeys have this type of thumb.
First of all, doctor's offices in Europe aren't run like free clinics here. You can call a doctor on a weekend if you wanted to. Here, you have to wait for the office to open and then you have to wait for them to set you up an appointment, which with a specialists takes WEEKS. Plus, to even see the specialist, you need a referral. You don't need that in Europe. Also, Canada's the second largest country on earth. They have free health care. Russia is the largest. They do to.
I was not implying that chimpanzees do not have opposable thumbs but that "doppelganger" could be spelled multiple ways depending on the language but now that I think of it, the producers of the show possibly spelled it incorrectly on purpose for humorous reasons.
@ferretyluv Yes, and in Canada, you have to wait a couple of days to see a doctor for a skull fracture. (Been there, seen it.) Plus it isn't free. Nothing is free. They pay into it with their taxes. So you pay more in taxes for a longer wait and for other's injuries. "Here, you have to wait for the office to open and then you have to wait for them to set you up an appointment, which with a specialists takes WEEKS." That is simply not true, Maybe for your, non-emergency appointment.
that is kind of weird once when i wer bout 8 me and my mom went into a super market and i seen a lil boy of bout 4 with blond curley hair just like me when i was that age and his mom called him over and he had the same name as me i still remember that to this day!
That is not what he said. And in a different episode he said that Gorrilas can build things. How can they build if they have no oposable thumbs? Also while their grip may not be as precise as a humans' they are still fully capable of precision grip, and they can indeed wield tools, and perform actions with those tools. -Critic of the Critics
Karl's real. Just a lot of the same content being mashed together into multiple videos or Ricky/Stephen bringing up a topic again (on Idiot) because it's utterly hilarious.
karl when aliens invade: "its some sort of space thing innit"

"Hang on something doesn't seem quite right here" hahahah
The chimp doctors bit reminds me of Norm McDonald. I firmly believe Karl knows what he’s doing.
That’s a prime Norm joke, I agree
It's increadible because the punchline is strongly alluded to from the beggining and you never get any misdirection whatsoever. It's an amazing antijoke
I thought so from the first time I heard him, he has such a good sense for punchlines and comes up with bangers on the spot
“That’s a knick knack Patty Whack, give the frog a loan. His old man’s a Rolling Stone!”
"I saw a jogger who was pushing a pram at the same time... the kid looked terrified" :D
Came to the comments right when this happened to play
Karl mistaking a joke for a real story is so great
I ask Suzanne “why don’t ducks use there wings much”? Suzanne said she had to call her mum and dad so I never got an answer 😂😂😂.

"Easy mistake". Man the stuff karl says at the end of these convos is usually the best stuff
I love how you can just never dissuade Karl from anything.
I honestly thought the punchline was going to be “because the light was on.”
Karl Pilkington = complete genius.
His way of thinking is unparalleled.
Actually Chimps, like all Simians have opposable thumbs on their hands and feet, so Ricky was wrong about that.
The saddest part about the chimp doctor was the procedure was full price.
That would be worse
Of course chimps have opposable thumbs, Ricky!
They've got em on their feet even, don't they?
He brings it up so often and it boggles my mind, there's actually a lot of stuff he gets wrong and by sitting next to Karl it makes him sound less wrong to people.
They don't have opposable thumbs because they can't touch their thumbs and their fingers together.
I see a lot of people saying that Ricky is wrong about chimps and thumbs.

That was a twilight zone episode which I saw once, A man walks down the ally and sees him and his mates when he was younger! :3
@ThatGuy1116 - you don't need insurance for medical care in the UK. You pay for it through income tax, whether you have used it that year or not. A far superior system than whatever mess the USA now has.

Oppossable grip - The ability of the thumb to touch the pinky.

@BasementBeginnings As far as I´m concerned Doppleganger is a misspelling of the German word but commonly used and acknowledged as well...
@ferretyluv Yes, and in Canada, you have to wait a couple of days to see a doctor for a skull fracture. (Been there, seen it.) Plus it isn't free. Nothing is free. They pay into it with their taxes. Chimp chat
chimp hands are basically identical to humans. And their feet are more like human hands as well. Gervais is talking shit again.
Well, Brittish English is very different from American English. You see somethings are pronounced differently and spelled differently.
