Someday, many years from now, Karl Pilkington will be remembered as one of the greatest innovative thinkers of our generation... Not sure whether to shake my head or bust out laughing.
6:38 - 6:47 May just be my favourite moment in the entire series. The banality of both the description and of the moment itself. The fact it's just four men brought together by happenstance in an otherwise empty bar with nothing better or more entertaining to do than just watch a Cat do Cat stuff; alongside the blank and somewhat disappointed look on their faces as they watch and drink. All of that punctuated by Ricky's appropriate laughter at the situation Karl happened to live through and conjure up a wonderful image through the bland language which was effortlessly delivered by Steve. Just ten seconds of hilarious humanity.
I think Karl seems to be more of an introvert, which explains why he thinks whole sentences in his head and, practically, has conversations with himself. I often do that. Introverts tend to sit back and think.
inner discourse is a normal occurrence and a helpful tool in problem solving for humans. if ricky and steve don't have inner discourse, they're the weird ones. everyone i know says they think in sentences. it's not like it's a constant thing but i can turn it on or off so to speak.
Jaqen H'ghar they didn't say conversing with yourself was weird, it's the complete sentence part that's off. And it is. Usually thinking in complete sentences hints at a developmental disability, mental illness, or dissociation, as does dreaming in third person instead of first person.
Cory Mck My bad for assuming people would understand what I was talking about. There’s a difference in intentionally vs unintentionally thinking in complete sentences. What I was trying to suggest is that, if you are incapable of thinking without complete sentences, that’s a sign that something is very wrong. A normal brain is able to think in concepts, so unless you are intentionally forming complete sentences with your thoughts, that isn’t something that should be happening.
@x2yll l I'm just glad someone noticed that Ricky is so wrong... Karl is absolutely right here even about the accent. sorry guys. I absolutely love you all.

It's a pretty even split, some people do, some don't, but because it's something we never really talk about, it's mindblowing when you find out that other people don't think to themselves the same way you do. Aphantasia is another good one. Most people can visualise a picture in their head but some people can't. Most people who can't don't find out for years because they think they're normal.
I just loooove the voice of Stephen Merchant - it's so ducking relaxing and funny! He should read in some books or stories - i would by that in a second. Also Portal !!
This is honestly one of the best shows I have ever seen, Its so flippen funny!!! I also love how they actually animate other characters with thier voices when they are telling stories, I wish this was on the radio or tv back in Canada!
What he was talking about Mr. Lanky Oh So Clever, was that his journal serves as an aide memoir and he need only read a few words to be immediately reminded of the incident.
It’s kind of crazy how karl has actually gone and made a series out of what Ricky Gervais was saying about how he thinks out whole sentences to himself
I think Karl might be one of the great thinkers of humanity. Someone needs to fund some more research into people like him. (He can not be the only one out there)
I've thought about it too. I found that when I actually think about speaking it resembles the last voice and speaking style I heard. For example, right now as i'm thinking of what to type I "hear" Ricky, Carl and Steve taking turns saying it in my head even though I'm American. If I had just watched a George Carlin video it would be George saying these words in my head. That's a bit weird innit?
I love how ecstatic Ricky is when first hearing about this, like he discovered gold, which of course he did because Karl's diary is brilliant.
It has made Ricky alot of money.
