    I’ve been taking a saw palmetto since Feb. Subjectively, I think my part line is improving and my hair feels thicker. Objectively, I don’t have to take a mass of hair out of my hairbrush every other day anymore. Objectively, my hair is growing faster.I’m writing this in April.

    OMG, I hope this helps me! I'm 52 and I've had a low thyroid and PCOs since my teens. I used to have SO MUCH hair and I keep loosing more and more where I'm scare of washing it for all the hair I loose every time I do. My hair is also 90% white and been trying to give up hair coloring and just going all silver. I just learned about Saw Plametto today and your video is the second one I run into. Is there a better brand of Saw Palmetto? Which one do you recommend? And thank you SO SO much! More than reversing my gray (which would be nice but I'm almost all white at this point), I'm more interested on not losing the thin hair I have left. God bless!!!

      Everyone has to decide whether or not it is good for them. When I was younger I took Saw Palmetto and it had a good effect on my health.
      But now I have started to take Saw Palmetto again in my mid 50s. Well the exact opposite is happening.
      I have noticed negative side effects such as lessening of libido and appetite increase as well as tiredness.
      I knew something was wrong and I think I have now narrowed it to Saw Palmetto.
      It is amazing how sometimes a supplement can help and then before a person knows it can have really nasty side effects.

    Vitamin D3 (not D2) a hormone in it's own right, is also great for hair thickness, growth and slowing graying. It increases testosterone naturally. And balances other hormones. It also increases telomeres length (anti-aging). I take 10,000 iu per day.

    • @MGillDesign
      @MGillDesign 4 года назад +2

      @@LesliesNewPrime Oh definitely, I am aware of the goldilocks value of D3. 60-80 ng/mL is the sweet spot. That said, as a black male, I was extremely deficient 4 ng/mL in 2015, and being a vegan, have been taking 10,000 IU per day ever since. When I go below (10,000) (i.e. tried only 5,000 per day), I notice a difference. I feel optimal on 10,000 IU per day. We must listen to our bodies and response. I also like Rhonda Patrick, she does vit D research as well ruclips.net/video/uc815fQn8iY/видео.html

    • @MGillDesign
      @MGillDesign 4 года назад +1

      @@LesliesNewPrime In my research I also use the following guidelines for Vitamin D3:
      100 ng/ml Excess
      According to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4821095/ In 2011, a community-based study with 3,667 subjects reported that dosing with 10,000 IU/day was safe, with no reported serum 25(OH)D level >200 ng/mL.[17] With 4,000 IU/day of D3 given for 1 year in two studies, no adverse effect due to vitamin D supplementation was reported,[18,19] and mean serum 25(OH)D levels after 12 months were 66ng/mL and 67 ng/mL.
      In a 10-year population study, the incidence of serum 25(OH)D values >50 ng/mL increased significantly without a corresponding increase in serum calcium values or with the risk of hypercalcemia.[20] As recently summarized by Hossein-Nezhad and Holick, “serum 25(OH)D levels are usually markedly elevated (>150 ng/ml) in individuals with vitamin D intoxication,”[21] and daily doses of vitamin D3 up to 10,000 IU were safe in healthy males.[15,16]
      Again, as we can agree, we must listen to our bodies.

      @MGillDesign 4 года назад +1

      @@LesliesNewPrime Bingo. You said it. I too believe Vitamin D deficiency is making some more susceptible to Covid19. Unfortunately, most doctors (in US) tell patients to only take 600 IU daily. Way too low.

    Just bought Saw Palmetto and Foti from Swanson after watching your videos. A few questions..How long after using SP and Fo-ti did you start seeing a difference in hair growth and gray reversal? I am almost 45 and I have noticed my periods have been irregular or not come through at times (obviously going through peri-menopause). Occasionally I have used Maca root and Vitex together (up to 2 days the most) to induce my period on time if I know it's about to come and hasn't yet. Wondering if you knw of any interactions with Saw Palmetto or Fo-ti? Also is it necessary to buy L-Glutathione (it's a bit pricey) if the Saw Palmetto has the ability to increase the catalase enzyme? And maybe another topic you can talk about, maintaining or weight loss strategies in middle age?

    Hi Leslie, thank you for the interesting video. I am on HRT. My gynaecologist included a small dose of bioidentical testosterone on discovering I have osteopenia (bone scan) and negligible testosterone (blood test). He explained testosterone is necessary to prevent osteoporosis in women. I would be interested to know if there is any research on Saw Palmetto and bone loss i.e. could taking Saw Palmetto increase bone loss bc testosterone helps to protect bone density? Incidentally, I am very interested as I am also treated for male pattern hair thinning and had acne in the past (androgen sensitive). I have to presently use prescription drops from my trichologist to protect my hair follicles. All expensive. I would be interested in more natural solutions. I do resistance exercises, and I.T. btw.

    • @tinawyatt
      @tinawyatt 4 года назад

      Leslie Ling Li Hi Leslie, thank you for your reply. and the study. That’s very interesting. I’ll just clarify I didn’t have PCOS but did have acne through all my young adult life and early 30s. I ended up on the anti-androgen Dianette, (risks not fully appreciated then, luckily I didn’t smoke) then I had beautiful clear skin. My trichologist advises my hair thinning is hereditary. I have bi-annual bloodwork for hormones, D and iron. This shows normal thyroid hormones to date. What’s interesting is that my hair shed excessively after my 3rd baby. (I had 3 babies in 2 years as my first 2 were twins. I was healthy and had good pregnancies with zero complications but I had a lot of fertility help to have them all). I have wondered too...if my testosterone is so low how come my hair follicles shrunk. They did significantly, I had a couple of bald patches even at the temples. Now thanks to the drops I use from my trichologist my hair is full and thick again. As mentioned, I would like to get to the underlying health situation. Intuitively I feel adrenals have a link. I have been and often am exhausted. I started going grey in my 30s. Like you I’ve had some traumatic family history. Thank you Leslie for all you’re doing.

    • @tinawyatt
      @tinawyatt 4 года назад

      Leslie Ling Hi Leslie, Dianette is primarily an anti-androgen medication. Because it would harm a fetus it is also a contraceptive. It’s not that I had too much testosterone, more that I have inherited hyper-sensitive androgen receptors.
      I ought to have mentioned that my hair had already thinned before I became pregnant the first time. I was already under the care of my trichologist. The male pattern thinning I have is insidious, and apparently by taking the Dianette I had slowed/delayed the thinning. Anxiety in the past must have exacerbated the hair loss. I had to stop trichology treatment when pregnant and was fine until I stopped breastfeeding (the hormones of pregnancy and feeding protect the hair loss), then after the thinning returned and very much so after my 3rd baby - literally had ‘post partum shedding’ and then some. I’m back to my full head of hair thanks to the scalp drops, which incidentally have been approved for breast cancer patients as they are very low risk. They cover themselves though not allowing use in pregnancy and also you don’t need them then as the ph hormones protect against hair loss.
      I use 3M drops from Philip Kingsley. They are a mix including a little minoxidil along with the anti-male hormone solution. They work incredibly well. I have tried natural solutions before including acupuncture and fresh Chinese herbs (boiled them) from a Chinese doctor, also for infertility, it felt like fumbling in the dark and despite trying for a couple of years it didn’t work for me on the hair or natural fertility front although I did feel better. I enjoyed the ritual and me time.
      I would love now to be under the care of a functional allopathic doctor. Finding one in the UK, preferably London, is not easy. I’m not sure there would be any point having virtual consultations with a doctor in the US as there is a barrier for prescriptions.
      It’s a pleasure conversing with you here Leslie. I very rarely comment on RUclips. You I feel are rather special. Sending warmest wishes.

    Hi, I'm a female taking Saw Palmetto for Androgenetic Alopecia. I don't think they've had a study on this, but do you think theoretically a woman can take 160 mg. Once a day, instead of twice a day and benefit as much as men who take it twice a day, since we as women who don't have as much testosterone (I don't have PCOS) in our bodies?

      What Leslie is saying is that there are other means to increase catalase in the body, which will break down hydrogen peroxide. Those other products are MSM, curcumin, and of course saw palmetto. Those products also increase glutathione. Make sure you partake in some form of exercise because that in itself increases both glutathione an catalase. If you are watching Leslie's videos and subscribing to her newsletter, you are literally in front of GOLD! She is VERY good at what she does, probably the BEST I have seen!

    There is some research that suggests saw palmetto can lead to male infertility. Have you across any such information and what are your thoughts?

    • @robertgarica
      @robertgarica 4 года назад

      @@LesliesNewPrime Firstly, I'm truly humbled by your lengthy reply. I wonder if you'll spoil us with this much attention when you hit 1 million subs :) You're right, I've come across contradicting reports; some suggest it boosts fertility and others the opposite. I didn't know about the male fetus studies. Thank you for sharing that as well as the Italian paper. Here is the source that initiated my inquiry: www.webmd.com/men/prostate-enlargement-bph/qa/what-are-the-side-effects-of-saw-palmetto

    • @robertgarica
      @robertgarica 4 года назад

      @@LesliesNewPrime Sorry for my late reply. Thank you again for your generous response. I actually took Rise-N-Shine's "Go Away Gray" supplements for about 4 months to help primarily with the color in my beard and some minimal grey on my head. Those contain saw palmetto among other ingredients. I didn't notice any particular effects, positive or negative. Around the fourth month I saw the WebMD article and the following sentence particularly scared me: "Some people have reported that saw palmetto causes impotence." As I'd like to have my own family one day, I immediately stopped taking the supplement. By the way, I still have the same amount of grey in my beard and I shave weekly. I don't believe it's genetic as none of my brothers have any grey and we are close in age. I'm not sure whether it's bad diet (though I've been eating a lot of veggies for the last few years now) or it was because I went through a lot of stress during my post-secondary education and early part of my career. In your opinion, do you think I should resume the supplement or try an alternative approach?

    • @robertgarica
      @robertgarica 4 года назад

      @@LesliesNewPrime Thank you so much. Perhaps you are right regarding the genetics. I'd like to retry the catalase supplement again, but am hesitant due to the saw palmetto content and it's supposed infertility side effect (if it is indeed true). Though as you mentioned, there seems to be mixed consesus on whether it actually re-vitalizes or diminishes male fertility. Anyway, glutothione and catalase seem to both have similar benefits, at least with respect to hair color. Which of them has been more beneficial in your experience? Have you also looked at alternatives for hair color restoration like wheatgrass juice and eclipta alba (false daisy)? There is anecdotal evidence that both have some positive effect on restoring hair color: www.reddit.com/r/herbalism/comments/g41yk8/wheatgrass_and_other_supplements_for_gray_hair/
      Would love to hear your thoughts.

    • @robertgarica
      @robertgarica 4 года назад

      Hey there Leslie. Thank you again for your generous response. False daisy can both be applied externally or taken orally, as demonstrated by this product: www.amazon.com/nature-Bhringaraj-Eclipta-Prostrata-Natural/dp/B073VJPCTN/ (Note: I've never ordered it, so I can't comment on it's effectiveness). Thank you for the clarification regarding glutothione and catalase. Based on those findings you noted, it makes sense to be taking either glutothione or a precursor. NAC supplementation seems to make the most sense, as that ensures glutothione is present in the liver. Have you looked into the side effects of taking NAC, such as the following study?: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24898644/ Did you take wheat grass juice in isolation or was it accompanied by other supplements and was it effective? There are many powered wheat grass supplements on Amazon, which might be the easiest option for procurement. By the way, your subscriber count seems to have really grown over the past few months. In fact, it seems to be outpacing the stock market. So congrats on that!

    • @robertgarica
      @robertgarica 4 года назад

      Thanks again Leslie. Perhaps with nothing else to do, people are being more critical about their looks during lock down. Yes, please let me know your endocrinologist's thoughts on that study. It is very specific and may not be applicable to most. It looks like you were doing a lot at once, so it's difficult to isolate the effect each had. I have a couple of questions that I've numbered, if your time allows. (1) If you don't mind me asking, did any of the above help in your intended restoration? (2) Between NAC and glutothione, which would you recommend to start with first in the absence of blood work? (I prefer not to try both simultaneously so I can what is more effective.) (3) Does either have any severe medical side effects that you are aware of, such as cancer? You might recall you mentioned I might have a genetic predisposition in not producing as much glutothione as my brothers. The only thing is that it is mostly my beard that is heavily grey. The hair on my scalp is only about 2% grey and the rest is naturally colored. (4) What are your thoughts on this anomaly? Sorry for all the questions!
