My 555 has a steering issue too. Works OK with the front bucket empty, but when I have a lot of weight on the front, it doesn't want to steer. If I drive down a road with a slope to one side or the, I have to constantly turn the steering wheel to keep going straight. I figger it is probably the pump getting weak.
Rural King had 'generic' hoses ready to go provided you knew what you needed. (Always take the old one with ya.) I'm guessing tractor supply has them as well. NAPA stores should have everything to make up hoses as needed.
I've never seen a machine so filthy. Take care of your equipment keep it clean you'll be able to see leaks before it gets major keep your machines clean keep your money in your pocket.
Hey, I have a 550 & have a leak so bad it emptied the power steering reservoir in 15 mins of use. I’ve pinpointed it to the area where 6 hoses meet on like a manifold ? I do have a photo but don’t know how I’d be able to upload it to comments. The hoses are like angled fittings . Steel pipes and they are rusted . I watched this video and you say you swapped out the other lines - is it as easy as that? Getting new lines , undoing and refilling fluid? Cheers buddy.
Sounds like where they come through the cab. The hard lines connect to the hydrostatic unit in the front console. It’s pretty tight in there but it can be done. I’d take the hard lines loose. Then mine had a rubber buffer for the lines in the firewall. Basically pop that out and start replacing hoses. Best of luck
I actually have that video! I rebuilt mine that had the same problem. It’s called power steering rebuild. You’ll have to pull the steering wheel and take the dash panel out to get to the bolts on the top side.
The hardest part of a successful repair is the diagnosis. It won’t steer (why) it leaked out all the fluid (why) right by the cylinder and hose has a leak (why) the hose had a bad swage - replace hose. Fixed
Thanks for the backhoe maintenance videos! I have a 455C Ford & know I'll be referring back to them as the machine gets used more.
Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for the video I will definitely keep an eye on my Ford 555d yes there is a lot of hoses that go bad all at once
Great machines👍. Glad it helped man. I’ve got a bunch of 555 vids on my channel if you’re looking to solve other problems. I’ve had lots
Great video 👍 is it just common power steering fluid , cheers tim
I use the Oreilly’s premium tractor fluid for all the hydraulic stuff now adays

If there is no leaks I’d say you need to repack the steering cylinders
@@Man-Time
Yeah, that could be the problem.
Could also be the filter in the belt driven pump needs changed
@@Man-Time
I was not aware that it has a filter.
Thanks
Where did you get the parts for the steering motor?
Thanks for another great video. Where do you get your replacement hydraulic hoses? ~$20 each doesn't sound bad at all.
Local hydraulic shop. Not a dealer. Thanks Lee!
@@Man-Time Thanks!

@@Le_Comte_de_Monte_Felin Thanks, great ideas. I just got an old 555E that needs a lot of work. The @Man Time videos are really helpful.
Good point to always take the old hose with you!
New to big equipment. Just bought a Ford 755 with half-working power steering.
Did you use hydraulic fluid or some type of power steering fluid?
Just premium universal Oreilly’s tractor fluid works for me

Hi, I have the MF 50HX and the steering will turn continously to the right with hardly any wheel movement. No leaks. Any ideas?
Thanks
Prob just adjust the tie rod

What kind of fluid did you use
Oreilly’s premium tractor fluid in the green bucket
What kind of powersterring fluid does it take? I have a 1988 Ford 555B Backhoe.
I just use regular tractor hyd fluid. Found the Oreilly’s premium in the green 5 gal works good. 30wt
@@Man-Time I think HF will eat you seals... ?
My cylinders have 3 hoses that hooks up to each cylinder one is a T and the other is a L on each cylinder. How do I hook them up ?
That’s a “consult the manual” type question. I’d say hook it up one way and if it steers the wrong way, switch it
Need help power steering pump leaking where gasket connects.. need to learn how to replace power steering pump..thank

How do you release the parking brake I cannot get it released for the life of me you’re supposed to pull it up right is that it?
No parking brake on mine.
I have a ford 550 backhoe one of the rear wheel locked up on me what do I do to free it any advice please
Sounds like either the brakes or bearing locked up man. Get it jacked up on blocks and start taking bolts out till you can see the problem
@@Man-Time will try that thanks
Need to remove my steering cylinder on mine and have it rebuilt...leaks like crazy
Haven’t had to do mine yet. Knock on wood
You replaced a hydraulic hose you did not fix any steering that was not working!!!
