Tom Scott is an awesome content creator. Some of the interesting and odd things he comes up with are incredible, I'd definitely suggest earthing some of his vids.

Every video that Tom Scott makes is always super well-researched, thorough, and emphasizes the facts, whether he's learning to tattoo or teaching people about salt mining. He's great!
Did you see the Legal Hovercraft Pub video? That was the result of a mutual friend studying for his alcohol license and discovering a loophole in the licencing laws.

And he doesn't ignore the emotional implications of his topics either. A lot of fact first creators ignore that entirely.
@@annieworroll4373 He's a really great creator, where education is the most important aspect of his work. And, he's also a genuinely nice person according to the friends we have in common.
A little background on Tom Scott: his degree is in linguistics, but he's been doing computer science/regular science/explainer videos on RUclips for over a decade. One of the earliest ones I remember was 'can you cook salmon in a dishwasher' (the answer is yes, but look up the video yourself to see him as a baby youtuber with long hair). But the man has grown so conscientious over the years while also expanding his bubble. Everything he does shows a similar amount of care and self-awareness.
One of the things I really appreciate about him is how well he manages the parasocial aspect of being a youtuber. Everything we know about him is very deliberately offered to us. He doesn't play games of making his audience his 'Scottsmen' or try hard to build a devoted fanbase. He just puts in high quality work at all time, and builds his fans through that. It makes it feel more special when we get personal facts.
He's a cool dude.
I am stunned that as a British RUclipsr you've never heard of Tom Scott. I really enjoy his content, it's like bitesize facts you can use in a pub quiz. So pleased for this vid!
Thank you for reacting to this. I loved that Tom not only was mindful of his influence where it came to safety but also consent. Lovely to see. And his producer Han commented on the video that they weren't getting it touched up because this version meant so much.
Tom Scott's rollercoaster video is very much worth watching. That completely hit me in the feels. I admire his second channel a lot as I see a lot of myself in him. Hard on himself and under confident in a lot he takes on but he always continues to learn and push beyond his boundaries.
For the producer this is definitely more about the memory than a perfect tattoo, which is really the sweetest thing to take from this video!
Tom Scott is one of my favorite youtubers/people for many reasons but one of the biggest reasons is that he is SO quick to admit his mistakes and issue corrections. Not only that-- he gets excited sometimes to find out he was wrong, because it means he gets to learn something new! Which is so fun to watch!! It's just like, watching a man have the best day of his life every day
this was unexpectedly wholesome! he did super well for a first tattoo. not too deep, not too shallow. just a little shaky which is pretty normal. and i'm so impressed by how safe the whole process was. and tom seems like a total sweetheart haha
ah this is such a strange crossover - i got my first tattoo done there by tash a day after this was filmed :) encouraged by your videos and after watching all your aftercare content! Tash is the sweetest person ever and the studio is so lovely and such a safe space

I'm not surprised he made sure he had a safe environment and supervision for this. I'm not sure if he knew all he'd need from when he had the idea, but he absolutely would have called up an artist for guidance and actually followed it.

As one of the apparently many who recommended you react to this video I am very grateful you did! It’s nice to have this as a positive example of someone doing it right as opposed to the many people doing it very wrong that you’ve reacted to in the past.

I have a script tattoo on my arm that’s mostly straight lines, the artist warned me beforehand (it was only my second tattoo) that he was a person, not a typewriter, so it could never be 100% perfect- after he was done I said “are you sure you’re not a typewriter?” 😂 it’s aged the best out of all my tattoos as well, he definitely knew what he was doing!

Tom Scott Is such a genuine, good guy. He did so good for his 1st time & all the warnings, practice. Especially, bein willing to learn & be honest with himself.
I really like the way Tom went about this and how he kept stressing that he was doing certain sanitization things and pointed out that they did all the right legal stuff because I have seen others do tattoo videos and not mention anything about sanitizing or safety precautions or anything ( Like Good Mythical Morning- they made me so angry because they tattooed two random fans, with a tattoo artist present, but they didn't mention anything about sanitizing or any other precautions taken at all.) So well done to Tom! I also think it was nice that the other tattoo artists didnt actually fix the tattoo at all since when she showed it 2 weeks later you could tell that they didn't touch it up. Unless she's planning to get it fixed later on.
After watching that video when it came out, I wondered if you'd find it or react to it, Lauren.
Also he's a really good video creator. One of the best. I love his second channel (which this video is on). I learn something new almost every single video where he goes and tries out different things with experts in their fields.

This is how I want to tattoo myself, I have plans for it and everything, I've always wanted to tattoo myself but I know it's unsafe and I do want to do it right, so my plan is to turn to my regular tattoo artist that is actually a long time friend (since high school) and pay him for the whole day so he can do exactly this, supervise and train me in a studio, but this is a plan for the future cause this would be expensive and I'm still a student so... No money 😅
Tattoo gun is an old school wording for a tattoo machine. All 3 of my tattoo artists called theirs a tattoo gun. Also none of them wrapped their wires or coil machine and they didn’t wear gloves. Gotta love the older days of tattoos. I’m talking like 25 or so years ago.

I think any young person who wants to tattoo should watch this video first. ❤ Tom was a serious student who truly wanted to learn, he practiced excellent aseptic technique, asked great questions, and took instruction very well. I like how they went through every step in detail. I learned some very interesting stuff today. ❤ By far the best tattoo video I’ve ever personally seen anywhere so far. My thoughts - finally a wholesome tattooing video! (in this way! not professionally), hopefully this educates some people who would otherwise be influenced by the tattooing myself tiktoks.. ^^'
Got a new tattoo last weekend (no where near the first), and my artist and I were talking about how blasé people are with their tattoos. I may have mentioned you a couple of times ☺️, and some of the videos that you react to. Honestly there was a part of me that was hoping that these videos are “just for content” and that people can’t REALLY be THAT stupid. I was wrong. My artist gave me numerous examples (someone coming back wondering why their week old tatt is red/inflamed/painful ie infected then saying they had gone to a baseball game, mid-summer, after they got the tatt and spent all night drinking on the beach - all after the saniderm fell off of their ANKLE tattoo 🤦♀️). So happy to see more content creators stressing how serious a thing a tattoo really is. And how serious proper procedures and safety protocols are.

i think your point abt it feeling different to other 'i learned to tattoo in a day!' videos is that its not presented as tom actually learning to tattoo. i'm sure if u asked him now, he would say that he doesn't really know how to tattoo someone - its very much a one time thing just for the video, and he's not acting like he now has the skills of a tattoo artist lol

There was one girl on your tic tok series who did a stick and poke bunny who sanitized everything, including the cooking film and wore gloves.
Tom almost feels like the anti-clickbait RUclipsr. He comes up with crazy video ideas like "Can I do Olympic bobsledding?" or "Can I learn to tattoo someone in one day?" and then he actually... goes and learns properly instead of just being a prat. And then he makes it clear that he's a total beginner being instructed as safely as possible. I most remember him for his video on pro wrestling where it was clear he was in safe hands and even taking a body slam with the correct technique completely winded him and introduced a whole new audience to the fact that "yeah, we know we're going to hurt each other, but that doesn't mean that what we do to hurt each other hurts less".
You should react to good mythical morning tattooing their fans. I think that's a good video as well!

I don’t know anything about this dude Tom but it’s refreshing to see someone that’s not a cocky, gen Z idiot that thinks they know it all and start to tattoo. I don’t know his age, but I feel he has a bit of cop on, and Common sense which speaks volumes to his mature approach to how serious this actually is 👏🏻 well done to him. A few years ago, my kids and I were in the States (California) and my daughter's bestie who was living in London at the time came over to meet us when we were in Santa Monica. We went to Venice Beach and the girls (22 and 25) decided they wanted to get matching tattoos. It was my daughter's first tattoo, not Annalise's. We went into this place which looked a bit dodgy but it was clean. They were literally getting the outline of a heart on the inside of their wrists. They were fine. I was waiting outside the room they were in and there was a fake rubbery hand on the counter outside which the artists used to practise on. It was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen.
This video was so cute but I could feel his nerves when he was about to go from the fake skin to her actual arm.

I'm only halfway through but why aren't they saying anyhting about the angle he's working at? The angle is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy off, the way he tattoos the fake skin right now means that the ink will NOT be where he penetrated the skin, it will be to the side of it because thats where the ink enters the dermis, its either gonna make a shadow or the lines wont align properly. It's not hard to tell him to try to have a 60-90 degree angle instead of what, 20?
