The tattoo school thing is interesting! I was talking about this yesterday with my friend who does hair, I was telling her I'm interested in becoming a tattoo artist and she was asking me how it worked. She seemed supremely shook when I told her that there's no required amount of supervised hours before you start on real skin and that it's more vibes based with whether your mentor thinks you're ready; she raised a hugely valid point that hair stylists (where we live, anyway) have to take the same bloodborne pathogen course as tattoo artists, but also need 1200 hours of supervised services before they're able to operate independently. So the point that tattoo schools are looked down upon in the tattoo community even though it's more structured and you have supervision and someone tracking your hours does leave one with some questions of "is this only looked down upon because it's a new method?", because to me I don't really see it as being much different than going to trade school to become an electrician or something like that.
I actually go to that tattoo academy, there is only 8 students and the teaching is great, no one gets left out at all. I’m only 1/3 through rn but honestly so glad to be learning everything from history up to tattooing people.
I totally get your opinion on "tattoo schools". But for me, here in Austria, it's so damn hard to become a tattoo artist. Nobody takes apprentices, and after 1.5 years of trying, i gave up and found a course, where they teach you tattooing and after that you are able to do the exams you need to be a licensed tattoo artist in Austria. We will be maximum 7 people in "class" and have like 8h a days and an extra day for the written exam. I would love to have a real apprenticeship, but its so damn hard. I just want to get my dream job :(
I think studying to be a tattoo artist could be the solution to diversify the tattoo industry actually...Currently it goes by convincing someone to like you enough to let you work for free for years while you still have to leave. You can go to school to be a graphic designer, what is so controversial about doing it as a tattoo artist? Then of course you gain experience by doing it with more experienced people like in any other job...
@@ursulaking4411 Exactly. Plus, you will learn the basic rules of tattooing first, when it comes to hygiene and such. If you do an apprenticeship, you'll take over the established habits of your mentor.
@@ursulaking4411 thats what i think too. I really like the concept here in austria, that without the 3 exams, you cannot legally tattoo. I have to learn like 30 pages just about medical stuff, which germs and diseases can be dangerous and stuff. So if you pass the exam, you really know your stuff and can do a basic color tattoo with 15x15cm.
So in Korea, tattooing is illegal without a medical license, which is a ridiculous law with no basis in reality especially as there’s no such law for piercers. It’s caused severe damage to the tattoo industry here and 99% of artists here are technically operating illegally. All this is to say that Tattoo Schools *could* be the answer. Korean culture places very high value on education and earning qualifications. Having a “tattoo school” where one can receive some kind of hygiene safety qualification or lower stakes “medical license” might be a gateway for the government here to change their attitude on tattooing as a whole. It’s not a thing yet, but I can see it having a place in a country like South Korea to help make tattooing more accessible.

Like everything some places are dodge, but tattoo schools are where I learned to love tattoos again. I met my current artist while she was in “school”. Locally I havent seen a class bigger then 5-7 people and the core class is 2 months. Then you make your schedule after that. You have to complain many things before being certified but one of them is getting 20 tattoos under your belt. Each tattoo has to be practiced and written off on fake skin before tattooing on a client. I have had a few pieces done by my artists mentees and loved it. They cost less and you get to be a part of their journey. I grew up with the old school creepy “boys club” style tattoo shops and seeing all these amazing women grow and flourish without all the toxicity is amazing in my book 🖤💖
I feel like it would definitely be safer for women trying to get into the industry. Getting tattooed by an artist is one thing because you only see so many sides of that person but working alongside them could be the potential for bad conditions. I’d definitely feel safer going to a school if I ever considered becoming an artist
Traditionaly trained tattooer here: there‘s nothing against having tattoo schools per se. But until now i only saw advertising for schools who want to make profit on the dreams of all these artists. They promise you the world and charge you even more and you leave having had 3 days tattooing on fake skin. So much beeing said: beware not every apprenticeship is the best option. There are some shady offers as well. If they don‘t intend to treat you as a peer they’re not worth your time. I know it‘s hard to find a place but don‘t let them take advantage of your dream.
There are literally flesh eating bacterias in most bodies of warm water!!! Also, for the "tattoo schools" I think it depends on how the school is setup. 2 weeks? nah, no way, but a or 12 or 18 month course could be totally fine. Like in Kentucky, where I live, the requirements for tattoo artists and studios are super strict (Looking, they even changed the age minimum to 16!! You used to be able to at any age with parental consent) but to get a license, you have to pass the blood borne pathogens tests and all kinds of things, so a school teaching that stuff would be just as useful as an individual. I mean obviously you qill almost always get better education one on one than in a classroom setting, but not always. I heard artists who take on apprentices can be incredible mean and hateful, which is wild, but yea, just my thoughts on that
Someone probably already said this but I saw the care bear centipede done on inkedmag, which looked incredible. So its not just badly done, its also pretty much copied, only changed in bit to fit in this persons gaps 😐
People need to realise they essentially have an open wound where the new tattoo is. Nobody would pull this nonsense with a large gash on their leg or something. But when it's a tattoo people forget that the reason getting it done hurts is because of needles perforating and injuring your skin to get the ink in.
I remember working in a couple kitchens where some of the older guard thought it was impossible to learn how to cook in in culinary school, and that it had to be done by starting as a dishwasher and working your way up. Today, Red Seal chefs are recognized around the world. Time will tell if tattoo schools eventually get a seal of approval that people look for when researching tattoo artist I guess?

In one of those Amazon reviews someone was blaming their infection on the needles not being sterilized. It's very very rare for a company to sell contaminated needles in the mainstream consumer market. The person doing the tattoo probably contaminated themselves with poor sanitization practices like most of these amateur home tattooers and are falsely blaming it on the manufacturer
I had a customer come thru the other day with actual cling wrap on their tat, and it looked like it had been wrapped and rewrapped with the same wrap multiple times. It was definitely something she did herself. I cringed so hard.
I absolutely love your videos! :D I finally got myself an appointment for my first tattoo, it's going to happen in March of next year. So excited for it!
Pinterest can be great for inspiration, and that's it. I wanted a 'mum' tattoo that was all outline. I found 2 that weren't the same copy and paste one that I saw everywhere. I then took those 2 to my artist, told him what I liked, what I disliked, then showed him pics of me holding my son and requested it look vaguely of me and my child, but not identical to my son cause of future babies. My artist nailed it and it both has the things I liked from the examples whilst looking completely different. Pinterest can be a great way to help you organise your thoughts, and get ideas but the copying is ridiculous
i honestly dont see too much on a problem with pinterest with tattoos, i dont really have any but i would rather as a tattoo artist tattoo something thats innocent and done many times on the internet than something that's hateful and promotes something awful.
@@nostalgiataxi I think the small ones, like a sun and a moon, little bee, etc, are fine since there's only so many ways to do that simple style before you would be copying someone else, knowingly or unknowingly, but bigger pieces that might have meaning to the original person, or took a lot of time and creativity from the artist should be off limits. I haven't posted my back tattoo online cause mum tattoos are known to be copied again and again and I don't want mine and my babies likenesses used like that. You can't tell without knowing us that it's actually our faces and would think it just an outline of any woman and bub. It's things like that. If my tattoo ended up on pinterest I'd bet money at least one other mum would walk into a tattoo parlour with the pic and ask for it exactly. I've seen the recycle in mum groups online and mine is all linework so easier to copy. But that's my face, that's my baby, that's the way I always held him when he was little and how I hold his brother. But all of that importance would be lost with the other mum. Her tattoo wouldn't have the same connections, wouldn't have a picture of her and her baby in an almost identical look, wouldn't have had her artist looking over at her to get the bump in her nose just right, the bump her second son inherited. That's what pinterest tattoos can do, it cheapens the tattoo for the copier but it also takes something special from the original. Like I said, the simple, flash type pieces are fine but others that clearly have thought in them, just get inspiration from, don't copy them
Tbh i went to a “tattoo school” for almost 2 years while working 3 jobs because it fit my schedule and honestly it was great until the people in charge changed and then it was just a money grab scheme and they didn’t give a shit about the older student plus with covid it ended up being a nightmare near the end. Luckily i was there when all of my mentors were 6+ years in the business and just wanted us to move on and start working professionally and genuinely gave a shit about us and taught us genuine industry skills
OMG two uploads in a row you're treating us queen! I'm cozy in bed, excited for my future tattoos, doggo laying by my side and I'm hugging two plushies at the same time haha. Hopefully your ear infection gets better soon!
This couldn’t have come at a better time , I’ve got another session on my back piece tomorrow so looks like I’ve got a double viewing of this video in my future 🙌
On the tattoo school; I’m a tattoo artist myself and I don’t think a school is ever gonna be able to teach the individual students the practical parts properly. However for things like hygiene (!!!), what’s important for a design, history, how to talk to clients, law, machine theory, finance and maybe first steps tattooing on fake skin (the first things I learned before even touching a machine) I think would be a good thing. There should definitely be a law to teach those things in a unified matter before you’re allowed to tattoo anyone. Tattooing itself however is a learning by doing process and every artist has a different speed in which they develop and get better so that’s definitely something to be done in a shop individually imo. I’m very lucky to have been taught in a studio that took all of these steps very seriously without treating me like a slave so I wish that there was a more supervised, unified way of apprenticing because literally everyone benefits from that.
The girl on the beach: I literally wrapped my 5cm tattoo for a week and only did catwash for this week. Didn't go swimming or holding it in the sunlight for 3 weeks. Damn. How can you not treat your skin like a temple?
Great video! I got a behind the ear tattoo today (first hand poke, professional only of course) had to stop at one though, was supposed to get both sides Cos I got really light headed and didn’t feel good after. Artist and studio were lovely.
Why is she at the beach with a fresh tattoo? Two tattoo artists I know in Florida actually have signs in their shops telling people to not go to the beach with a fresh tattoo.
Haha, the guy tattooing on the washing machine was the same as the guy tattooing in the garage from the last video, wearing blue gloves and hanging with the bros 😂
I definitely think proper tattoo schools are becoming more common. I went to one where I was the only student in my class, program lasted a year. It was a Montessori style, so I started helping the newer students fairly quickly but it only pushed my skills higher. I own my own studio now and have a solid clientele base that are all getting long term projects or just regularly come in 1-2x/month. I tried for 15 years to get a traditional apprenticeship, but instead all I got was harassment, cold shoulders, fear tactics and unprofessional standards of behavior. At my school, I was treated with kindness, respect, recognition and felt like I made positive impact to everyone. Yes, there are still scammy programs out there. But yes, there are also a lot of abusive traditional apprenticeships too.
I love that you’re up in arms about your meal deal going up by less than a pound. The laundry at my complex went up by $1.25 per machine/cycle. So now instead of $2.50 per load, we now pay $4.50. As far as food goes, our dollar menus went up to $2 per item. Even our dollar store prices went up to $1.25.
Have binge watched this series ❤️Appointment booked for December, couple different animals on my forearm..just trying to figure out whether the robin should have a santa hat. In my head it's genius 😂
Girl at the beach using her water bottle that for sure she drank from and transfer bacteria from her mouth to it to “wash” her open wounded tattoo 🤢🤮🤮🤮
I literally have asked my tattoo artist to put the aftercare process in writing so I don't fuck something up. Its my first tattoo, so I want to be thorough.
I feel like pinterest isnt a bad place to get tattoo references, but copying somebody else's art is wrong. If your someone who does care about this, this is what I've done for my tattoos. First one I looked through portfolios at the tattoo shop before finding a pretty rose that I got on my wrist. Second one I did send them a screenshot from pinterest, but had the tattoo artist use it as a reference for his own drawing. Third one the same as second, only difference was that it was in color this time. And fourth one hasn't happened yet, but it's a huge floral piece that I'm scheduled to get in december. All I did was screenshot very bright pretty flowers that I loved and had him draw up his own tattoo with the flower references. Obviously you dont have to do these, but if you want original art work on your body then these are very easy things to do.
All the unsanitary decisions make me wince so much. Earlier this year I was hospitalised with cellulitis in the entire right side of my face which swelled until I couldn't see out of my eye and the swelling around and inside my mouth was so bad that eating, drinking and talking was difficult. At certain points I was delirious and seeing things from the infection. It was not tattoo related but skin infections are not joke. I was on IV antibiotics for days and as I have a compromised immune system I was on pill antibiotics for a month and a half after that. For me it started as a minor sinus infection that got into my skin spread throughout my face and even down into my gums like wildfire. I even lost a previous perfectly healthy tooth because it spread down and deep. Seeing all these young and (presumably) healthy people taking unnecessary risks just horrifies me. Scariest viewing so far this Halloween
Cellulitis is no joke! My gosh, it hurts so bad!! And mine was from a 4 wheeler accident in water. I ended up in the hospital 3 times! So yeah, the girl on the beach is fn crazy! 🤦♀️
I remember my first tattoo I was so paranoid about looking after it. My mates took me up the river camping and I was so careful and on the last day I went tubing with them and was so upset when I got dumped in the water. Thankfully it was a few weeks after the initial tattoo so it didn’t get infected but I was so scared it was gonna feck it up
You should do a video on the different styles of tattoo. Neotraditional, traditional, Japanese, I don't know anymore tbh 😅 but I think that would be an interesting video
Personally, my armpit tattoo wasn't bad at all. However, I was so nervous I asked my artist (who I regularly go to) if I was allowed to use the bathroom while he was setting up. I never ask I just say "I'm gonna use the restroom before we get started." But I was so nervous I felt like a child in school.
I got an apprenticeship last year in a studio but a lot of it I have learnt off RUclips and practicing on fake skin from home anyways 😅 now I am on skin in the studio
I know many people in the industry don't like tattoo schools for the reasons you just mentioned and I agree that there is the danger of cheating, false promisses etc. This being said: The apprentice-master conctept is very uncontrollable. Surely a master's attention lies on a single apprentice but that doesn't guarantee anything if you think about it because what is a "master" in a system where there's no educational backgroundsystem? They might be brilliant with years of experience. They might be absolute shit. There is no standart/ no bar you have to pass in order to call yourself a tattoo master, or is there and I just don't know it? XD Thoughts of a noob with only one tattoo so far. Lots of love.
The armpit tattoo aaaaaghhhhh. I almost scream in pain when I epilate my armpits, getting a tattoo there for multiple hours... damn. But it looks so good
love that she's wearing nice, cute looking sweater meanwhile me sitting in my mom's robe that's about 10 sizes too big for me and stained in foundation and hair dye. At least I'm worm lol
Animal poop? There’s literal human poop in the sea too. My sister once went to the beach with her friends, and one of them got a piece of human poop stuck to her back.
i love it when she says “oh this is a bit of me” i 100% know what she means but it’s such a cute way to convey the idea. americans are like HELL YUH BRUTHER
When I was 17, I was really stupid. I went and got my first tattoo my back. I did my makeup in the big wall panel mirror while I was getting tattooed and immediately after it was done, my friend (who got the same tattoo) and I went out to a club in West Hollywood. I sweat so much and so many people rubbed up against me, I’m super surprised it never got infected.
The beach girl can't be seriously gawd damn.... I put SO MUCH efford in to keep everything (mostly my bed) as clean as possible (also while washing/creaming) and this girl be like "ah f*ck it" 💀
I have a traditional Japanese 3/4 sleeve. The pain wasn't the worst. However, feel your pectoral muscle...it never relaxes...even when you sleep. Armpit muscles are always flexed therefore it does suck not gonna lie. As the "smell" you are concerned about. I cleaned my armpit and entire arm roughly 7 to 10 times per day depending on how much plasma was accumulated. Keep in mind there was no Saniderm 20 years ago when I got this done. Just old school orange dial liquid soap and Curel lotion (scent, dye, alcohol free). A method I still swear by to this day.
I know it goes against everything you’re told about healing a tattoo, but when I got my head done, I put sunscreen on it the very next day and the entire thing peeled and was fully healed underneath in jus under 3 days. I think it had to do with the type of skin on your scalp and I’d never try that on another part of my body, but whatever magic happened with my head, that was the quickest and best healing tattoo I’ve ever had and it is a full color tattoo.
12:30 im planning on preparing the start of my career as a Radiologist (doing the basics); and let me tell you. they ONLY pick 20 students per semester to get more of the 1 on 1 training. im hoping i get picked later in the year when i finish the basic classes like biology.
I feel like the beach girl completely and wholeheartedly ignored every word her tattoo artist told her about aftercare.
Her tattoo artist: “Don’t go in the sun, don’t sumerge it in water, keep it clean”
Her: “aight, lemme go to the beach in the first week”
I hate that there are multiple TikToks from this video that this could be referring to 😬😭 just don’t bring new tattoos to the beach it’s not that hard
Yea she didn’t hear or understand one thing he said. That’s ridiculous lol
I love how you can hear someone in the background say "for the record, I don't approve of this"
And as long as she doesn't get an infection she'll do it again

Early for this one, am so getting the itch to get a new tattoo while watching but I also need a new laptop so I guess a tattoo has to wait
New subscriber here 🙋🏻♀️and I’m binge watching all your videos absolutely love this type of content 🙂
Hi hi hi 😄🧡 thank you!!!
Luckily for me here in Alaska the sun isn’t something I have to worry about lol
I had a customer come thru the other day with actual cling wrap on their tat, and it looked like it had been wrapped and rewrapped with the same wrap multiple times. It was definitely something she did herself. I cringed so hard.
I love these vids so much! They (the good and the bad ones) inspire me to become a great tattoo artist and create a safe space for my clients
I absolutely love your videos! :D I finally got myself an appointment for my first tattoo, it's going to happen in March of next year. So excited for it!
After almost getting hit by a truck today I am just so happy to relax with your voice and a little art 💝
Thank you for always spreading information on health and safety for tattoos, some people really need to watch your videos...
Always happy when your video's come out
Hiii😄🧡
Just got home from getting a new tattoo. Just the content I need, while I relax and recover!
Going to let Treacle distract me for the next 24 minutes, from biting up and down my arm as my tattoo is itching now 😅🎃🎃
Nooooo not the itchy phase!!! My thoughts are with you at this difficult time 😂🧡
@@treacletatts 😅😅 thank you, aww hope your ear heals quickly soon 🙏💜
Ah you’re living the dream!!! Pat the dogs from me 🥹🧡
@@treacletatts i damn will! He's a ginger mixed breed rescue named Bursztyn which in polish means amber!
This couldn’t have come at a better time , I’ve got another session on my back piece tomorrow so looks like I’ve got a double viewing of this video in my future 🙌
Oooooo!! Have a great session my love 😄🧡
“Are we in a bedroom?- we are in a *bedroom*” my exact thought process with you lol
I just LOVE the decorations xD I wish I could sit in a room like this.
The beach girl is the most "my sign dictates everything" person I have ever seen good lord
This was great, Lauren, and the new Ring tattoo is amazing!
You are amazing lauren i always think about you around Halloween hope you're ear gets better soon love so much you are such a lovable fun person
so cool to see Giorgi in this, I absolutely love her and she's an amazing artist!! it's been awesome to see her growth and seeing her in this!!
Have binge watched this series ❤️Appointment booked for December, couple different animals on my forearm..just trying to figure out whether the robin should have a santa hat. In my head it's genius 😂
Do it! You obviously love the idea, it’s so cute and I bet you’ll smile and say “he has a Santa hat 😄” every time. So worth it.
Girl at the beach using her water bottle that for sure she drank from and transfer bacteria from her mouth to it to “wash” her open wounded tattoo 🤢🤮🤮🤮
I didn’t even think of that my lord!!!!! That whole tiktok has just got worse 😩😂
@@treacletatts I apologize for the nightmare
I literally have asked my tattoo artist to put the aftercare process in writing so I don't fuck something up. Its my first tattoo, so I want to be thorough.
You look so cozy and comfy ♡
So happy you’re posting 5 days in a row!
Always excited for these! I'm thinking about getting a few different tattoos but it'll take a while to jump into.
I LOVE the tattoos you already have!
Neotraditional, traditional, Japanese, I don't know anymore tbh 😅 but I think that would be an interesting video
been loving the uploads! 💜
14:40 I love the combo of deadbeat dad & beating a dead horse
If that Saturn tattoo was done smaller and had better saturation, it would have made a really good dandelion.
Oh Darling I'm sorry your ear was hurting you while filming this! Hope you're feeling better!
I got an apprenticeship last year in a studio but a lot of it I have learnt off RUclips and practicing on fake skin from home anyways 😅 now I am on skin in the studio
Me too!! Good luck with it!! ❤️
@@cxffeemessiah6667 thank u & u 🌹
Ooh you can get sun block second skin now too!
Oh well I say!! Didn’t know this!! Thanks for the info 😍
I feel like tattooing yourself is only okay if you're a trained artist and do it in your studio, with your set up.
“Tumble dryer” ☕️🏴🥹
Omg that Amazon tattoo kits video was make me Wanne go cry…
i got ear infection rn too, u got this queen
Noooo I’m so sorry 😩 hope you make a speedy recovery!!
well its been rough lately😅 but your vids are great distraction from the pain, hope you get well soon too!
I like your videos and I am 100%with you about them I mean like what the ever loving ducky is going through people's minds when they do that sff
Animal poop? There’s literal human poop in the sea too. My sister once went to the beach with her friends, and one of them got a piece of human poop stuck to her back.
That’s horrifying
🤮🤮🤮
I recognize your palm tattoo from Luke Ashley?? Love it!
i love it when she says “oh this is a bit of me” i 100% know what she means but it’s such a cute way to convey the idea. americans are like HELL YUH BRUTHER
I don’t really know anything about tattoo school, but if it’s like beauty school I’m behind it!
Me: I’m going to try to sleep now
Also me: oh hang on 24 more minutes
I sent several pinterest screens hots and then described how I wanted it for my own design. Its good for inspiration bad for wanting exact
😍😍 Your jacket. So cozy. Hope your ear feels better soon 💜💜x
That care bear centered had a lot of potential. I just don’t know why they would tattoo themselves on a bed 😬 their bed looked grimy as well.
Your eye makeup is lovely!
happy halloween cuz the clips this ep are TERRIFYING
The DIY carebear centipede is a copy, I don't remember the original artist but I saw it a couple weeks ago
Ahhh tattoo in the sun! (Waving hands frantically) I've bought wrist sleeves to cover mine new fire baby..
MOAR?!? AHHHHHHH
My current healing tattoo hasn’t even seen the sun lol
I know it goes against everything you’re told about healing a tattoo, but when I got my head done, I put sunscreen on it the very next day and the entire thing peeled and was fully healed underneath in jus under 3 days. I think it had to do with the type of skin on your scalp and I’d never try that on another part of my body, but whatever magic happened with my head, that was the quickest and best healing tattoo I’ve ever had and it is a full color tattoo.
12:30 im planning on preparing the start of my career as a Radiologist (doing the basics); and let me tell you. they ONLY pick 20 students per semester to get more of the 1 on 1 training. im hoping i get picked later in the year when i finish the basic classes like biology.
i love these sm!!!
I didn't even know tattoo schools existed. The shop i went to has an internship where you get to learn.
Thank you...thought I was the only one that didn't know they existed...and I'm old! 😂
