As someone who has parents who are difficult to please, I can understand wanting to set things up in a way that gives my partner the best chance at being accepted by my family. That being said I would only consider it as a first impression type of thing, I would never want to change my partner or make them feel like they aren’t good enough for my family.
But like the person in the video said, having a conversation with your family first is probably a better idea.
My partner wasn’t even tattooed and my parents still got angry at me 😹 you can’t please everyone no matter what you do so just do what makes you happy

I agree 100%. Yes, give them the best shot at making a good first impression but that person wasn't even introducing her bf, this was a person that didn't even really exist like that. Nobody can hold up a lie like this for that long which sounds like the only way the family would have accepted the bf.

I can undertand her, taboo around tattoo is prominent in some cultures still, and is impossible to change in short time. She's not making him remove the tattoo, just covering it to avoid argument and extra difficulties, and some people still want to remain good relationship with their family so cutting tie is not a choice.

Funny story: When I went to get my 2nd dose of the shot, the nurse was shocked that I WASN'T afraid of the needle. I explained that I have a couple tattoos. i mean as home tattoos go, the first one is definitely one of the best i've seen on tiktok. seen too many bed tattoos recently. but you're right, my last handpoke session was with someone just finishing up apprenticing and i got two tattoos of that size in 5 hours. but still better than rushing it & completely fucking up the design though. edit: i think harm reducrion with home tattooing is massively important because people are always going to do it & therefore it's important people see someone doing it as correctly as they can. i also think handpoke is the better choice for amateurs just because of the amount of damage you can do with a machine in a short amount of time, handpoking gives a lot more control & often better results if the person has done their research. very cool that your "inlaws" are heavily tattooed. i come from a family where nearly everyone in my generation has tattoos on one side, so i never really questioned family acceptance besides the parents & grandparents worrying about "ruining your body" part. very lucky my partner's family have already accepted a heavily tattooed person before me.

      It makes some sense.
Tattoo needles go past the epidermis and deposit the ink into the dermis. They aren’t supposed to reach the hypodermis/subcutaneous tissue at all, if they do then that will cause a blow out.
Intramuscular shots go all the way past the subcutaneous tissue and into the muscle.
Intravenous shots get injected directly into our veins which obviously isn’t the case for tattoos.

Scalp/Head experience - I recently sat for 6 hours, lines and black in one session on scalp/neck/upper back. Sent a pic on insta 😁 The pain was unreal above the ears, would deffo recommend lidocaine unless you just live pain 😂 I've got a fair amount of tattoos and this was by far the spiciest. I would say it's like getting a ditch area worked on. Healing was actually super simple, the scalp seemed a few days ahead of the neck and back consistently (neck and back were derm'd). Honestly, there was little itchy phase for me -unusual-. I get spots occasionally on my head, and even with a bit of that, the piece healed like a dream. 10/10 will ink my scalp again!

I'm scared of needles so I asked ppl with tattoos I know it was cool that I asked. The mutual stories I got were that it's not as big a needle and it doesn't go as deep, so it's a tingling sensation. one of them was even cool with accompanying me to my first tattoo and gave me tips on things like: bring an easy to open snack, eat before the session because it hurts more if you're hungry. and so on.

I have the whole left side of my head tattooed. It is a geometric kind of pattern, with the outside lines a grey border with bolts, kind of like a sheild. The inside pattern has different shades of the bi flag. I have a mohawk so shaving my head isn't a big deal. The tattoo experience was easy for me compared to what the average stories are. My care routine has helped me avoid an itchy stage for years.

I shaved my head last year in January and got it fully tattooed, and let me say: I freaking hated every second of it! I have a snake on the back of my head, Flowers on top and mandalas on the sides. Not really really happy with the mandalas, but I am growing my hair out again and I am 9 months in. Maybe in a few years I’ll shave my sides to get my mandalas fixed. But the best part is, nobody can really see it, nobody expects a full head tattoo on a very girly women.

Yesssss I'm starting my arm sleeve this weekend! It'll be an anime patch work and I'm so excited! Also I agree with the lady reading that AITA post. I'm engaged to my fiance and we've been together for almost 6 years (in October) and I worry his family looks down upon me because I have tattoos and don't plan to stop getting them plus I want to get actual body mods as well. He told me that he didn't care what they thought and he still loves and accepts me for who I am. I don't even think they know I'm pansexual either. I don't know how accepting of the LGBT community they are. But it's like, they wouldn't suspect anything since I'm with him. But. It's not like I'm going to hide my identity either. If they ask if I'm straight I'm gonna be honest because I don't see a need to feel ashamed of who I am. He wanted to get a tattoo and ear piercings but I worry his family will bitch him out and think I'm a "bad influence". His mom and stepdad have tattoos. His brother and cousin do too but the fact I aim to have sleeves and face tattoos worries me (I mean his cousin has face tattoos too so. NVM lol. But she's family. I'm just an in law) ah help I'm giving myself anxiety!

I thought i didn't have the face shape etc to have anything shaved on my head. Well i got a free appointment at a hair solon school and i told the student "i want something like this go for it" and she was so happy that she got to do something FUN. Well. i enjoy having my right side shaved (based on my natural hair part is what side the teacher said would work best and etc). I understand, keeping it shave is pricy and i have done it myself but i need someone else to get the parts i missed.
i been thinking of putting a tattoo there in the future. but what i do not know. lol
shave your head go for it. and if you like it, then think about a tattoo. you wont regret it.

@@treacletatts Fun fact, head tattoos heal up so much faster than other tattoo places. My head tattoo was healed in a little over a week (skin wise). It was dry after healing for a couple weeks like normal, and not shaving it while having to putting on ointment was a little annoying.
But the itching was not bad. I think the hair follicle holes help the shedding, so less time for skin to pull and itch.
The small face muscles/tendons in the side of my head hurt like a mother******* tho lol. I had some mild headaches for about a month after.

You can't wear gloves and then go touch your door handle, your faucet, unsanitazed bottles etc it defies the whole purpose of having gloves in the first place. 😷🙅‍♀️

I don't really like how yall are reacting to that. If I'm being honest yall can't take one side because yall don't know how her parents are. Some parents are extremely strict as she said it when it comes to stuff like that. Both of them are in the wrong not just one but BOTH. She should've told her parents first and he should've showed more respect and not showed his tattoos. They could've had a conversation after dinner about the situation and how it should be handled. But blaming one person is down right foolish in my opinion. I've gone through that with my father and he was so strict to the point where he stopped talking to me for awhile and doesn't allow my boyfriend to come over. Yall got to realize that. She probably was scared about how her parents would react.

I 100% agree wrt tattoo needles vs medical needles. There's something that's like... less invasive? about tat needles cause they only pierce a few layers of skin but medical needles are going aaaaaallllll the way through, into muscles and blood vessels and urgh, hate themmmmmm
I haven't been professionally pierced (claire's defo doesn't count as professional lmao) and now I'm afraid of the needles just from your description 😭 but I want more holes in my ears so much 😣

I don’t have tattoos but I have a severe medical needle phobia. I can easily watch a tattoo being done and the thought of it doesn’t scare me at all. Shots used to be really bad for me but since COVID I’ve been much better. But blood tests and cannulas give me intense panic attacks and cause me to faint.
What people don’t realise is that it isn’t the pain, it’s the thought of the needle being in your body for a long period of time. Tattoo needles are in and out quickly whereas syringes and IV needles are in you for anywhere from 5 seconds to hours (in the case of a cannula.)

Sooo, I sympathise with the girl who coached her boyfriend. My mom is very strict and controling to the point of borderline abuisive. I'm a grown-up woman, but she still is very controling so something my fiance says often puts me in serious trouble. I have to tell him to stop sabotaging me everytime we visit my parents (but he still does it unknowingly), for me it's an issue of my personal safety.

    • @DravenUrei

Okay, I'm sorry but.....that ain't it. You are a grown woman as he is a grown man. If he has to endure your abusive mom as a means of being with you, if I were his friend/ sister/even Co worker I would tell him to run for the hills. Because he'll just be another victim to your mom's abusive, controlling ways. And if you both have kids and insist on the mother being in their lives, it will just mess THEM up. You being unable to separate from her control is a huge red flag.
