I have Tourette’s. My tattoo artists have all been understanding and know that if I’m very ticcy they are allowed to pin me down, but most of the time I can warn them when I need to tic and they pause whatever they’re doing until the tic has passed. They’ve also been good about chatting to me while they’re tattooing me to help me relax and thus reduce my tics

my artist is incredible about my Tourette. they've always been super understanding. our system is that I will either verbally tell her or flash a hand sign to let her know I need to tic. but honestly, I find that just listening to a podcast and chilling while I get tattooed keeps my tics pretty calm.

As an American that first shop was hella over priced. Ik its frowned upon to say someone's work isn't worth as much as they're charging but that was just out of pocket $200 for that thin lined script. Not even including the tip. Must be some LA shit 🤣. People are more than welcome to do what they please with their money but it couldn't be me.

I know a “newer” artist at my local shop in CA that I go to and I really would love to get some of her work done but oh man her prices are kind of ridiculous. $300 for a 3x3 I know the other artist I go to at that shop can do for $180 at most. The artist isn’t as good as she is but at the same time it’s not the complicated designs she offers for these price points just line work and minimum shading that I know The other does really well. Just rubs me the wrong way. She does amazing work but $300 for something so simple…
I mean I was going to get my entire forearm covered in a design from someone who does even better work for $400 so not sure what the deal is

Yeah, the thing that kills me about script is, every tattoo artist I've seen do script literally pulls up like, Microsoft Word and types the word and then changes the script to one the client likes, then prints it out. It takes less than 5 minutes including placing the stencil. And then it's super quick to do the tattoo. I can see charging more for a small tattoo that you actually drew out or that took you more than 10 minutes to complete, or had color, etc. But charging that much for something that you basically just copy and pasted onto someone? Seems a little overpriced to me.

Idk, I found other people with a similar tattoo that I have and that was an original art that is very meaningful to me and I found it amazing to meet them, if one person get the same tattoo as you and it is as meaningful to them as it is to you, in MY opinion it can also mean that you two have a lot of similarities and can start a magical bond and friendship over this. I met a girl with the same tattoo as I have and our friendship began over sharing our story with this tattoo and it was just such a wholesome moment. We don't need to worry so much over "being unique", it's very difficult that you will have a tattoo that no one else in the world will have, and it doesn't lose meaning to you just because it also has meaning to another person, so why bother so much about it?

My last tattoo, my artist took mercy upon me, and used a numbing spray before putting the white ink in, and I have to say that it was a MAJOR game changer. Update on Dads Pinterest tattoo: He got the whole thing, covered most of the back of his calf, and yes, it had the Pinterest popular “not all who wander are lost” quote on it. It was a Viking tree of life type tattoo. I was really worried it was someone’s personal design cause it was pretty specific.
We did end up finding out that the artist had sold the design to Adobe so it was one of the better outcomes we could have asked for.
    The exasperation was real 😅

Tattoos in the US are really only expensive in expensive states and large populated areas. I know several shops who claim to have a by the hour rate but they only say that because people are less likely to argue a set price but then will only charge you for how big the tattoo is/the color of it as well. It’s really just about finding the shop for you. Much love!! ❤️

As an older woman who over tweezed in the 90s, I’ve debated tattooing them. However, also as an older woman, I’m finding my brows are graying, too. 🙄 So I’m now torn. I have discovered dying them a light brown does cover the gray and darkens the small ones so they show up better.

It looks like $200 is the base price for the first artists work.
It's pricey, without a doubt; but my artist just raised his prices to $300 an hour so I get it (he's also switched his focus to black and grey portrait/realism work that's a lot larger than what I usually get).
Obviously the first artist is very talented, and I've known artists just as talented that charge less; so just research and see.
