Any high charisma character should try that, unless they have another good angle. When I started playing TTRPGs I tried playing high charisma character and was SO SHY that it just never worked, the DMs wouldn't let me get by on just a roll, they wanted me to say something. But eventually Bard became my favorite class and I love playing the face, flirting your way in or out of a confrontation is just a very useful tool you have at your disposal.

My paladin and her party kinda did this by accident one time. We met an old lady who lived in the woods, and we were super on guard. She invited us in for dinner, and we made sure the stew definitely wasn't poisoned or made out of people. From the old lady's muttering we concluded she had decided not to kill us because we were pleasant and polite to her. Delighted that she wasn't going to attack us, we finished our food, made our goodbyes and left. It honestly didn't occur to us until later that we had basically gone "Oh, you only eat rude people? Yeah... I play Pathfinder and I GM some games, but I chose my first barbarian class a few years into playing TTRPGs, going with the 3rd Party "Wolfshifter" barb class, which basically takes a standard Barbarian, adds some shifting aspects of nature classes, and turns your Rage Ability into a type of "werewolf" transformation... She also rolled 2 stats below 10, which I shoved right into INT and CHA... I justify it all with a "raised by wolves" backstory. Between her sheer stupidity, lack of understanding of society and other people, and her being an absolute unit from LVL1, she has caused more than a few issues in-game, but the table loves our party's dynamic.
I actually murked a very awesome Silver dragon as her, despite knowing as a player that they're good, because she (and me as a player) had no idea it had helped another Player Party in the same universe, so when she saw the dragon transform in the town fountain from a fish, she just went for it solo with no questions asked. Now that is her water bowl, and she calls herself the "protector" of that town for "rescuing" them 💀

We frequently have to 'bribe' our cleric just to keep him around and do some healing. We allow him to walk away with more than anyone else gets to loot, he allows us to do stupid things and live to talk about it.
It was, perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the first lessons I learned both as a player and as a DM. It doesn't matter what you try to achieve or how prepared you are, you'll never be completely ready for all the stupid shit people wanna do and no one feels that pain more than the guy who's responsible for keeping them alive. Hence, the only way we can get someone to play any kind of healer is to stack them with more loot or face an early grave.

Also he´s the only one left from the basic group, so he outlived 3 barbarians, 2 rouges, a cleric, 4 fighter and 2 paladins. I am now capable to summon a greater deamon and planar bind him to me for 30 days. Also he met a lich and a demi-god who will help him to become a lich in the next few years. He is able to gather all the recourses needed in no time and because of his background of being a wizard teacher traveling the whole world to visit as much libraries and universities as possible, he also have powerful wizards at his side, wich will also help him to endure the ceremony to become a lich.
Also he got infected by a wereboar with the lycanthropie curse and will be capable to transform into a wereboar at anytime. In the wereboar form his strength rises from 7 (-2) to 17 (+4). So he is then able to deal max damage in ranged attacks aswell as in meele attacks.
Bonus: He already got an Elven Chain wich rises his AC from 12 to 16 and in the wereboar form he again gets a +1 bonus to it.
All that in combination, makes him so powerful that my DM would like to kill him, but he cant because he´s the groups favourite (they even wrote songs about him) and they protect him at all costs. One of them even engaged a pact to protect the wizard.
And he´s not only the groups favourite, also most of the NPCs like/love him, so his lost would be one of the biggest bummers to this whole campain.

Ive played barbarian so many times at this point im cursed, every time ive tried playing a different class, the campaign unexpectedly ends for whatever reason. The dms ive had both find it funny when i submit knowing that im just accepting my fate as barbarian but they always worry because i make the most unpredictable monster of a character, one moment im gulping down every stew on a table, the next im blabering on about my plot to kill asmodues because i think it would be funny if i somehow managed to pull off the impossible. One moment im meerly working in a tavern, the next im half way in the process to becoming a lich whilst living in a equivalent to a porta potty. Mmm then there was a time where i had an npc companion who died and my dm enforced the fact that they arent relevant to the story and they are gone for good, so my half orc thought it wise to win a fighting tournament to gain popularity, then find someone who could send me to the astral plane so i could blindly float around trying to find a way to avernus which i assumed was where my companion was (who i knew for only a few ingame days). I eventually found my way there, having abandoned everyone in my group, fought through all kinds of creatures including a powerful demon, only to learn that this companion was well and truely dead and there wasnt any hope in bringing him back in the first place and so i just left hell and went business as usual. Man i change when i become a barbarian, it takes over

It is a beautiful opportunity for some weird Disney villain sh*t.
If they seduce a dragon that doesn't change how it views them, it just desires them.
A maybe it locks them in a giant bird cage to keep for their own enjoyment.
a white dragon migth turn them into a ice statue to preserve their beauty.

The trick to that is to pick a cleric that can do stuff while Also keeping the party alive. I personally found with my murder happy party last campaign that a tempest dwarf works wonders, though admittedly I got above par when rolling stats. Out the gate with heavy armor, a super high hp for lvl 1 from my con and racial bonus (13 hp from a d8 is not shabby at all), let me tank, reactive damage belch out lightning, bonus action healing word, and normal action attack. Shit got even better when I multiclassed to warlock so I could learn wizard ritual magic (was magically carrying the party since they were all stab orientated) and few things bring a look of suffering to a dm's face like trying to hit the 'heal bot' at 20 ac who auto counters with armor of agathys and then belches lightning at them.

It's usually either you feel useless at least half the time, or everythings so crazy you can't really keep up. Why I like Celestial Warlock. You're still a warlock doing warlock things, but you got some emergency healing in your pocket that doesn't burn other potential resources. You can even do some big heals if you need to and haven't used your limited spell slots on murder yet since your last nap.

You know, everyone always jokes about it, but I have never had a wizard be the first character in the party to die. In fact, the few times the wizard has died in my games, they were almost always the last one to fall because they knew how to hide behind the tanks.
EDIT: there was one exception to this, but it was a character made purely for a joke. The player introduced her character, said she wanted to "discover what lightning tastes like," cast Shocking Grasp on her own tongue, dropped dead right there in the starting tavern, then promptly threw out that character sheet and pulled out the sorcerer who she actually intended to play for that campaign.

Buddy of mine invited us to play a homebrew he'd spent two years planning. He made various classes, feats, skills, items, etc.
First session he had us fight his BBEG with a plan to kick all of our asses and send us to the pre-planned start of the campaing.
First mistake he made: He'd rolled the BBEG instead of just making him an "immortal object". To be fair he rolled him at level 10, so our group of "new" level 1 scrubs would be completely outmatched...but, by rolling him, he gave him defined stats and a finite set of HP.
Second mistake he made: Another buddy of mine and me were not particularly veteran D&D players, but are pretty good at arguing and veteran YGO players (a.k.a. Rule Lawyers) and he had sent us all a copy of the prepared classes, rules, etc. So, my buddy chose a rather bizarre homebrew class that was a sort of mix between Cleric, Druid and Bard (a.k.a. An unholy mixture that basically focused on healing and buffing and debuffing) and I chose the DMs second biggest mistake.
Third mistake made (a.k.a. Second Biggest Mistake):...he made a class that was supposed to be an OP class at higher levels but with loads of demerits at lower levels that was kind of a mix of Fighter, Rogue, Monk and Barbarian. Super short-range but capable of rapid movement and short range teleports starting at level 5. However, one of his homebrew races had a racial ability that basically doubled movement speed and range at the cost of AC and restricting armors to light class and weapons to small ones.
Fourth mistake made (BIGGEST MISTAKE): As his campaign story went, each of our characters started with an enchanted piece of gear, chosen by us from a list he gave us, that we would "awaken" during the campaign but could use at level 1 at a disadvantage to activate their effects, and that even once "awakened" would not always activate. Mine was a dagger that, once boiled down, could inflict "insta-kill" on enemies my level or lower or inflict "unhealable wounds" (a.k.a. 2d8 "Bleeding" dmg on a failed CON Saving Throw and half that on a successful one every turn) and a "curse" (that boiled down to a disadvantage to all Saving Rolls and a lower AC).
You can probably guess where this went.
Thanks to my buddy buffing and a pair of Nat 20s on activating the effect of the dagger, not to mention abyssmal luck on the DMs part when rolling the BBEG's attacks, we chipped away at his health untill he tried to disengage and my buddy activated his own "artifact", which was supposed to be an amulet that "trapped" an injured creature, fiend or undead that tried to flee from combat and could then be summoned as an add for the user or deleted to make way for a new prisoner (basically a godsdamned pokeball) and the DM rolled a Nat 20 and a Crit 1 on the Saving Throw, which he had to take seeing as the "curse" of my own artifact was still in effect.
So, since he had been very specific about his BBEG being a "True Demon", ergo a fiend, we had literally caught the equivalent of Mewtwo just outside Pallet Town when we just had a lvl 5 Starter Pokemon.
Needless to say we were never invited back to play D&D with him ever again.

@@Chaotic42Kami That's easy. After letting the party create all sorts of mayhem by summoning a literal demon into the mortal realm celestials descend upon the party to give them a simple warning; "Adventurers, if you continue to summon this demon you risk destroying the seal that protects your realm from becoming conquered by outsiders. We will only ask of you once, surrender your pet or face the consequences." Of course to make things fair have them rolled using the same rules as the BBEG was but give them a couple more tricks up their sleeve like dealing insane damage to demons. If they win the combat and continue to use the demon then it opens the flood gates for more demons to start wrecking havoc. If they comply and turn the demon in, have the angels give a reward before telling the players that due to their shenanigans it's very possible lesser demons have already found a way in and it's up to the players to deal with them.
Of course this was just my initial reaction after reading what happened; after thinking about it more I'm sure there are many more ways the campaign could have been saved.

I hear you. I've been pretty much the full time DM for the last 40+ years but on the rare occasion someone else DMs for a session, I almost always play clerics and not one of them has ever been healing-focused. They are just a great class in every edition and forcing them into a healing role eliminates a lot of great options.
But then I have never been a big believer in the idea of balancing party roles that started developing in second edition and became a standard way of looking at the game since third edition - if everyone wants to play wizards or everyone wants to play rogues or no one wants to play those classes as DM I am totally cool with it - a big part of my job is creating opportunities for the party the players actually created to have cool adventures, not to design for some some theoretical "best" formation.

I had that happen to me once, because the other players were pretty shy newcomers to D&D, so i was kinda forced to run the party, even though i tried my best to include them. and it got pretty boring very fast. i mean, the whole point is having a diverse party, with different characters good at different things. If i want to do everything myself, i could just play a typical rpg.

I mean, the seducing thing can be taken care of by taking a roll into context. Ie., if the player rolls to persuade the Emperor to give you their throne (assuming the players have not done anything to set it up so this actually makes sense) a high roll means that the emperor thinks it’s a very funny joke and decides not to kill you.
Also mages are quite survivable if played well.

Let's you survive long enough to get a few more spells, like spider climb which let you stay out of the way for most damage. The one long campaign I played, I had a level 20 wizard with misty step for his second level at-will. I could keep out of reach of basically anyone.
