We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
This is exactly what I need! I had a wooden fence put in around my property and all the latches are falling apart. I didn’t know any better. Going to call someone to put one of these in for me and check my fence come spring! Thank you!!!
I live in the UK & we ordered this latch all the way from the US just because of you and this video! Thank you so much. It’s now installed and works like a dream.

I installed this latch two days ago. Please note the packaging does NOT include installation directions. The "handle" part of the latch can be installed 2 different ways. Be sure it's in the direction you want before you tighten the lag screws.
Good job, and a good latch. But with a chunky midrail around the fence, I wondered why - instead of a random thickening block on the gate style - that midrail was not continued across the gate. It would be aesthetically more pleasing than adding a random block to mount the latch. It would have looked less like an afterthought....Function and form' is harmony!
Thats a great idea. I have the same problem with my back gate and I have been looking for ways to attach a better latch ( using a metal wire thats runs over the top of the gate) it's useless and my dog has gotten out several times due to poor latch installed. I also want to attach a gate spring closure device but with the gate being uneven like your I havent found a usable spring. If I add a block of wood like you did to even it out thats should work. Thans very much, very helpful.
Is there a typical distance between the gate and the fence part for the latch to be installed correctly? The is a small notch on the latch seems for the purpose to stop the gate (not to go inside), but to use the notch the slit between the gate and the fence should be very small. I'm afraid if the wood will get wet in rain it will spread and the gate door is too tight against the fence part. Thank you for a great film.
Thanks for the comment. The latch itself is very thin, about 1/4" or 6mm thick with the 2 pieces together, so the gap between the gate and the post can be quite small and it will still fit. If the gate posts did shift around it could certainly bind the gate when opening and closing. My gap between the gate and the post is 3/4" (19mm) and it might go down to 1/2" (13mm) when it moves. The gate is tighter to the hinge side to allow room for the latch. If the gap were to get wider, you can adjust the strike on the back that goes into the latch to compensate for this. Hope I understood you correctly.
@@jofalltrades1816 I see, thank you. My gap on this gate was about 3/8" or 10 mm. I installed the latch though, hopefully it won't be too tight after rain. Probably the purpose of that notch on the latch is different that I thought it is for. It will be less guessing for the 2nd gate I need to do after your explanations. Thank you again.
Nice fence! Can you do a video showing how you built it? Which fasteners? Board sizes? Where you fastened each board? Dimensions? Type of wood used etc? Thanks
your video was very informative, but also very very difficult to hear. Suggest, perhaps get wireless microphone for around your neck or some way to sheild microphone from the wind. 6:30

@@jofalltrades1816 Thanks. But my gate/doors are "French door" style. Both doors can open, like if you want a larger opening to let an RV through. They are solid metal with only a quarter-inch space between the doors when they're shut. It has a simple latch that works...but you can't open it from the outside because you can't reach through the door. Really dumb design I guess. Thanks for the reply.
Sounds solid and secure. Another idea is a locking latch that I've seen work on double doors, but would involve drilling a hole through one of the gates and they would have to open outward. Good luck! www.amazon.ca/QANVEE-Latch-T-Handle-Storage-Hardware/dp/B088TPD4V5
@@paulmadeya5396 there are locking T handles out there that have lock cylinders in them but they are designed more for shed doors than gates. Most of them are one way only. There is also a newer style gate latch with a keyed lock, again one side only.

Nobody ever talks about the minimum gap needed to install paddle latches. If the gap is too small, the paddle will run into the gate on a double gate install then the edge of the gate has to be notched out. I hate those large gaps in fence gates.

Very cool, Love the reuse of the old latch to hold the door open.

Much appreciated, honestly, I make use of that old latch every day. Helps save the gate on windy days too!

4:14 if you are worried about getting that drilled properly the don't use that sort of bit. You use a brad point drill bit.

we get really strong wind will latch keep the gate closed
Yes, it should. We get some strong wind too, 90km/hr and so far no issue with the latch
How do you lock a latch like that from intruders
The back side of the latch has holes that line up for a padlock. Not ideal but it makes it secure and more difficult to break into.

It is available at most Lowes stores in the US, Also found on Amazon.com and .ca

Wow, I thought just women got remarks like this. Nobody deserves it.
How would I lock it?
Where the strike meets the latch, there is a hole for a padlock. This would prevent the lever from moving up and down.
