    Yaaaaas! I feel so posh and elegant listening to your accent AND practicing my bass on this song at the same time!👏🏽😆🎸🫅🏽

      On a serious note though, thank you for showing us ways to make the lines our own by breaking up the measures, and speaking the clusters of note patterns out loud. I’m thinking I might look up some James Jamerson flavorings to add my own tasty bits to this song. Thanks for the inspiration and teaching here, Greg. Excellent video, fantastic work.🥇

      😂 You're hearing a plash of Essex accent mixed in which is definitely considered un-posh around here. I'll take posh though 😀

      Thanks so much, I try to teach the ways to construct your own bass lines so you can learn from the greats and absorb their idea to use in your own creative way. Great idea to get some James Jamerson ideas in there.

    Gotta love Tommy Shannon . . . . This is a masterclass in creating rhythmic variations and cool chromatics from pure basics. Thanks for this, Greg . . . this was a ton of work on your part!

    You get double-bonus points for doing this in standard tuning ! Thanks !!

      You're welcome! I teach all the bass lines in standard tuning as I think it's better this way and then you can always go away and detune if you want to play with the original. Cheers.

    Thanks Greg. Some great ideas there to try out. I especially liked the jumps on the open strings.

    Really nice lesson! I've seen Buddy Guy 4 or 5 times and every time he plays this he reminds the audience it's his song 🤣

    Tremendous. How about Sweet Little Angel from the same Buddy Guy álbum as Many Had a Little Lamb - A Man and the Blues. Great blues bass with a bit of jazz thrown in by Jack Myers.

      I'll check it out Kenny. I'm currently writing my new Jazz course which will focus on the Jazz Blues so this song might be a good one to put out on RUclips!

      מקווה שיהיו כמה זמנים מאושרים לפנינו.
      תהנה מהשיעור.

    Hello Greg, why wouldn't you play the open A string ( flated 7th) on the 5 chord rather then rocking back and forth from the B to the F sharp?

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  Год назад +1

      Hi, I think I understand what you are saying, why don't I use an open 'A' on the B7 chords? If that's the question, bear in mind that this is the exact bass line from Tommy Shannon so I'm presenting what he's playing. But that said, the B is the root note, and the F# is the 5th interval so they are both great note choices. The flat 7th would work within a riff in that bar but you wouldn't want to just play that for the whole bar. try it, it doesn't sound great!
      Sometimes you go for what sounds good and not what's easiest to play.
      Hopefully I understood your question and that helps?

      Got it! I’ll use it in my playing.

    Sure looks like Tommy intentionally stays in the background to highlight Stevie Ray and not himself. I like that about Mike Campbell's work with the heartbreakers as well. Eric Clapton once said "It's not what you play that makes you great, it's what you don't play". Slow hand was right on!

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  Год назад

      Good point! The best bass players know when to lay down a simple groove and when to play a busier line. A good musician is all about supporting and helping the rest of the band to sound great. That is well illustrated in the next video lesson (No.227) which is out later today.
