Awesome!!! Greg your're the Man! Thank you so much for taking the time to help everyone along the Tommy Shannon experience! Keep Tommy's play-alongs coming our way. He's definitely a Blues Bass Master just like you are. Cheers Brother!
Recently started in person bass lessons after a somewhat fruitless year of subscription on-line lessons. I lack the discipline required for practice time and being held accountable from an instructor has really helped. Straightened my right hand and left hand technique out right away and move right into chord tones. We picked this song to help build on the things he is trying to teach me. As always, great tutorial, very well done. Takes as long as it takes but this has really helped.
That’s great to hear Scott, well done for putting the work in. Yes big gains can happen quickly when students get direct feedback from a coach or teacher. Glad the lesson is useful to you.
thank you so much, i really love the way tommy shannon plays this. have you ever heard billy cox playing this song with jimi? i feel like stevie and tommy were similar to jimi and billy
I never learned to read music. I learned to play my ear and sight. Words like "minor pentatonic scale" frightened me into thinking that other guys were better. I lost my Hamer do to addiction and my Ibanez 5 years ago for housing. I bought the cheapest piece of sh*t online & I'm trying to get my hands in shape. I use a pick (a felt one for plucking songs). So thanks for the video!!
Good luck with starting up again and hopefully you can get yourself a nice bass again in the future. Don't be put off by some of the music theory - anyone can learn it and it will help with your playing in the long run. I try to sneak some theory into each of my lessons and I aim to make it easy to understand so I hope this helps you. Most of all just have some fun on the bass!
@@CZECHMATE650 no worries at all. I was lucky to get taught this stuff when I was a kid and it was easy to take it in. My aim with Greg’s Bass Shed is to help bass players of any level learn what they want and progress on the bass. Shout if you need help.
Thanks. I put that bass together myself from parts. I used ‘Wudtone’ to stain and oil the body. It came out a lot better than expected as I’d never done this before!
Yes it's in E minor. But SRV detuned a half-step so the played in E but it sounded in Eb. Most bands will play it live in E Minor but if you want to play it with the SRV track then use my 4-string part and detune your string by a Half-step. Or there is a 5-string part I've written in Eb minor which you can use with the original without de-tuning. Does that explain it ok?
There are definitely similar lines being used by both players. I’ll have to cover a Chad Chandler bass line! I’m thinking of making a birth of British Blues course and the Animals were very much part of that era as I’m sure you know.
This is not even close I mean you got the right notes but you don't play it right you're not phasing it properly. Why are you showing how to play a high up on the neck everything that you're doing is high up on the neck when it's not.
Hi Mike, thanks for your comment but are you listening to the correct version? I have transcribed what Tommy Shannon plays on the version I talk about in the lesson. Have a listen to the bass lines on this version and then maybe send a transcription of the bars you reckon are out. I’d be interested in comparing notes.
@@mikewrightify good for you, why don’t you send a link to you playing your own note-for-note version? I’d like to see your take on this bass line. Although there’s merit in transcribing bass lines and solos note-for-note, unless you’re playing in a tribute band, no one is going to be keeping score. Creatively and connecting with the listener is much more important when playing live, and take it from me, this is what you’ll get booked for time and time again. Not repeating someone else’s bass line, note for note!
Another excellent lesson. Plenty to get my teeth into and learn 🙂
Great Tim, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, Greg!

@@GregsBassShed me too.
He's scary good. He plays this with a pick too. It's so effortless the way he flies around the neck and holds down the groove!

Hey, thanks for your comment. No I hadn't heard Billy Cox playing this with Jimi but I have now! Thanks for the suggestion - I love it!
Another excellent tutorial, Greg. My playing has improved due to your calm teaching and playing. 🙏
Thanks Michael and glad your playing is improving. It’s to great to hear this!

No worries Travis, I’m glad the 5-string section helped.
Loved the 5-string demo! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Keith.

Love that fender.
What model is that?
I put that bass together from parts. I also coloured the body myself. Turned out a lot better then I expected!

Great Lesson, the Walking sections remind me of Chas Chandler's playing with the Animals!
Love Chas Chandler's bass lines and he got a great tone from his EB2 or Rivoli.

I doubt anybody played it the same twice. I stopped being OCD. Hit the important notes at the correct time and nobody cares.
