If I got up to Jam this.... Which is something I wouldn't do if I didn't know it more less😂.... And I was told the I chord I would automatically move to the IV But this moves to the V and this is a good reason to watch videos like your. I cannot rely on my hearing or experience which is very limited. I played the sky is crying with friends at an open session a while ago But the version we played started on the turnaround on the V. So it took a while to realise that it was G, C D and not D G and A. Nobody knows the triple have had in my life man so thanks again.
Yet another interesting and informative tutorial that is really well presented. I'm listening to this through cans as I walk into Bordeaux and I look at it properly later. I can play bass fairly well in The general. Since I was put I do not have musical hearing. I don't have good hearing and have almost no musicals training. Your videos help me very much to get on the truck thank you for the structured chord chart. That's very helpful is its not always obvious to me where to change and if he applied play with Don't want me to practise and am I playing them running once every three or four months so it's not going to stay my head. So thanks again
Thanks for another great lesson, Greg! You do a brilliant job of breaking it down. I have played it many times, but I have a much simpler and better understanding of the song after watching your video. Santana occasionally played the latter part as a separate song titled "Gypsy Queen". It is most often heard as the combination "Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen".
Cheers Steve, glad you enjoyed the lesson. I’ve only realised after a few comments that the jam section is a different song! I was listening to all this stuff on cassette at the time so was never hot on the song titles 😀
Great lesson again Greg. Fairly simple line if you know the basics. If you don't, it seems like a mystery. How about could you do so a lesson on a Australian band, COLD CHISEL song, Cheap Wine. Simple line, but a brilliant one. Cheers
This is played at lot at jams and I've noticed guitars often pick up the bass riff as they often do with other iconic lines like walk ups in 50s rock songs. Any advice on how to deal with that?
Hi Gareth, quietly put your bass down, go and fetch a pint of water (don't waste beer), go back on stage and pour it on the guitarist's head! On a serious note, riffs can often sound great when they are doubled up with bass. You really need that riff played low on bass so lock in together and both play it in those situations.
It’s in D minor. Don’t worry about modes. As bass players it’s much more useful to think in arpeggios and chord tones. Modes are more useful for melody.
This is the link to me playing through the whole bass line with the original song...

Thank You So Much Greg, You Make Things So Simple, I Love It !!

Cheers Gary 👍
You are not going to find a better explanation of this song anywhere. Very good breakdown
Thanks so much! 🙂

It is easy to mix up chord IV and V on this song! 😀
Thanks for the notation pdf! Great channel and always look forward to more.
My pleasure!
thanks Greg I was really complicating this Bass Line, you really helped me quit trying to BE Latino, just relax in the minor 7th box.
It's easy to do this! Simplicity often wins with bass lines though 😀
