    Time lapse video of the outside view from my apartment window during the longest day of the year: 21 June 2010.
    Still photographs were shot using a digital still camera connected to PSRemote and left on for 24 hours, taking a photo every minute. A custom PowerShell script was written to overlay a text shower the time of which the photo was shot using EXIF information. Finally, Adobe After Effects CS5 was used to combine the JPEG sequences and post processing effects were applied.

      The lack of DST near the equator makes the sunrise seem more normal than the sunset. Subtract an hour from everything in the video for standard time and add an hour to everything for yourself for DST. Then the solar noon could also just be different in general.

    Seems like you only have total darkness from just before midnight until just before 3 AM.

      Civil Twilight: when the entirety of the sun appears to be below the horizon until the geometric center of the sun is 6° below the horizon
      Nautical Twilight: From 6° below the horizon to 12° below the horizon
      Astronomical Twilight: From 12° below the horizon to 18° below the horizon
      The North Pole is at 90.0000°N Latitude & Manchester is at 53.4808°N Latitude
      90°-53.4808° = 36.5192°
      36.5192° is the altitude of the sun at Solar Noon on the Equinoxes, and -36.5192° is the altitude of the sun at Solar Midnight on the Equinoxes.
      Also, that means that the sun at solar noon Solar Noon is always 2(36.5192°)= 73.0384° higher in the sky than at Solar Midnight for any given day).
      Add 23.44° (the Earth’s Tilt on its Axis) for Summer Solstice and subtract 23.44° for Winter Solstice.
      This means that the sun at Solar Noon on the day of the Summer Solstice (13:10) is at an altitude of 59.9592° & -13.0792° at Solar Midnight (1:10).
      You can also take the Negative of Solar Midnight on the Summer Solstice to get the Solar Noon on the Winter Solstice (13.0792°) and -59.9592 for Solar Midnight on the Winter Solstice instead of subtracting 23.44° from what it is for the Equinoxes.
      Also, the Solar Noon will be facing due South (180°S) & the Solar Midnight will be facing Due North (0°N) in the Northern Hemisphere as in cardinal directions.
      The numbers won’t always be 100% exact because not every seasonal event falls out on exactly the same time on exactly the same day every year, plus solar noon varies throughout the year due to the tilt in Earth’s Axis along with the fact that Earth’s Orbit is slightly elliptical, and also because the Earth will have revolved by a very slight amount from Solar Noon to Solar Midnight, but you get what I mean. And you can also plug in the numbers for any latitude ofc.
      As for dealing with Solar Altitudes above 90° in the Tropics, you just find the difference between the altitude and 90° and then it’s just that much less than 90° instead of that much more, and then also in the other direction.
      So let’s say you’re at 10°N latitude, that means that the Solar Noon would be at 80° in altitude facing due south on the equinoxes and 103.44° on the summer solstice, so it would actually be 76.56° in altitude and due north because 103.44°-90°=13.44° & then 90°-13.44°=76.56°. This is because it would just continue getting higher and higher in the sky towards the summer solstice until it gets to 90°, so the Zenith, and then it would just get lower and lower on the other side.
      The same thing can be applied to the solar midnight. On the Fall Equinox in September, the sun would set to -80° in altitude and facing due North, and it would continue to set lower and lower until it gets to -90°, which is called the Nadir and is the opposite of the Zenith, and then it would continue to set higher and higher in the due south direction and get to -76.56° Due south on the winter solstice in December.
      So, back to Manchester and contradicting your original statement:
      Except there isn’t total darkness at all whatsoever, but rather that it just might look like it to regular eyes/cameras, but technically isn’t because of Astronomical Twilight, which is very faint.
      The sun only sets about 13° below the horizon (13.0792° below the horizon to be exact as stated above), so it’s barely even astronomical twilight, and that lasts for 2 hours from 24:10 (technically 0:10 of the next day) until 2:10, and solar midnight is at 1:10
      Nautical Dawn at night before sunrise is at 2:10, and Nautical Twilight before the sunrise (it’s usually referred to as morning Nautical Twilight, but it’s just Night Nautical Twilight because that’s way too early for it to be the morning) lasts for 1:36 until 3:46
      3:46 is Civil Dawn, and Civil Twilight lasts for 53 minutes until 4:39
      Then, the upper edge of the sun approaches the horizon at 4:39 at night (so Ig it’s the morning in terms of the sun, but it’s still the night time on the clock), which is sunrise, and the upper edge of the sun doesn’t sink below the horizon until sunset practically 17:02 hours later (it’s technically 17:01:52 hours) at 21:41 in the evening.
      Then, evening Civil Twilight post sunset lasts for 53 minutes until Civil Dusk at 22:34
      From 22:34 to 24:10 (or what is technically 0:10 of the next day) in the evening is Nautical Twilight for 1:36 hours.
      And then just go back up to right below the “back to Manchester” part again with Astronomical Twilight.

      AltoonaYourPiano Except if you’re not in the shade of the moonlight, it can even look like Nautical Twilight as if the sun was at an altitude of about -8.5° on the ground and for seeing things, so you can still see just fine outside.

      The sun doesn’t rise at 3 am, it rises at around 4:40 am around the summer solstice in Manchester. It only starts getting light around 3 am around the summer solstice. Honestly with dark curtains I don’t even notice it. Doesn’t bother me.

    The earliest the sun here rises is 5:55am and the latest is 7:10am lol and guess what it's the same for sunsets but opposite the earliest sunset 5:55pm and the latest 7:10pm
