    Thank you for your video. I am currently on a serious number of projects. I am writing 13 textbooks plus 2 screenplays. I am facing the issue of having no time because with the textbooks there are mobile apps in the development PLUS I am working full-time in a totally different branch. As I can say from my experience now - This is a very very easy way to do it. But if you are short on time, or jump between different manuscripts, you have to do all the presets before. Therefore I recommend using a format for both pages and text-bodies. For example its one click for a page break, or just one click to bring the headline in place, with specialties such as a larger first character, or the size of the break between the headline and first text-body. It is terrible to do that after another - And being realistic - 130 Pages is not much. If you are doing that for each page after completion, it is going to consume a lot of time. Plus, if you want to have a cooperate design throughout a book series, there are tiny slips you can make to mess things up. Save time, prepare the document before you work in it. But thank you very much for your video!
    All the best!

    Sorry, you began your tutorial claiming that your lesson was very simple (i.e., for beginners). Unfortunately, and I can say this as a real beginner, I was totally lost when you began demonstrating how to format for paperback books (at about 5 minutes into the tutorial). If this is what you consider something beginners can understand, I would love to give you a lesson in how to calibrate and operate a GCA radar set for air traffic control. It was easy for me only because I was formally trained in the military to operate these radar sets. When you showed the word document, you did not explain how you got so many pages on the screen. I am only able to get one page on my screen. So, you see, for someone who is a novice, it is difficult!!!

I would love to get some help and see if I can get it uploaded successfully. However, I am confused because I saw someone else on a tutorial using a completely different method. KDP's formatting guide instructs to only have a page break between the HEADING of the first chapter. For the rest of the book, I reformatted everything using the measurements provided by KDP. I highlighted everything except for the text before the first chapter, held shift and the "page down" key, and then applied the formatting. However, it didn't work. I am not sure how others are uploading using different methods when I followed the specifications provided by KDP and it failed to upload."

    I suggest you look at the commercial use of fonts you recommended, as I would assume you are showing how to format a Kindle ebook, then it will be commercial use. Garamond is owned by Adobe, Arial by Microsoft. If you head to font 1001 and highlight commercial fonts you will have access to hundreds of commercial fonts without the potential of being caught in a copyright battle. PS, the square text you mentioned is called justified, the text which has jagged edges to the right is called range right or ragged right and the same goes to the left. These are printing terms. Hope this helps.

    When you really now how to make books, you don't just call those blank pages, not would you start any chapter on a left page in a paper book, unless the creator(s) have a special meaning with that. But in languages that read left to right, you would typical start a new chapter on the right page. This would leave the mirroring left page blank in some cases... those case should not be forced by inserting 'page breaks' as those will always add a blank page, also in situations where you don't need or even want a blank page.
    A real typographer/formatter will use the formatting codes attached to the chapter heading, to generate or force the chapter to be on a right page.
    In Word and other text editors you need to add this formatting code if available in the 'style' of your main heading (H1). If your editor does not have this feature it is not the right program to make a book with...
    But then you can use a skrew driver to hammer a nail into wood if you really need to.
    Making books is still a craft! pre-made templates make life easier, but don't make you a typesetter.

  • @thinkerx4068
    @thinkerx4068 Год назад

    Wow, this is not how you do it. Use Styles in Word for consistency, in looks and spacing, not s by hitting return (enter). Start new chapters on right page by selecting Breaks/Odd Page at chapters. So many other things...this video is a problem to new people, not a solution, in my opinion.

    Im using Office 2016, and when I insert the TOC, the page numbers is cut off on the right, there are no options to reduce the line width so that the page numbers show on the visible portion of the page. Also, there doesn't appear to be an option to deactivate the hyper links in the TOC options settings.

    hie, dane. i'm done with creating the manuscript ~ but facing a problem, could you pls help me with it?
    the pdf file of my manuscript, it has the page numbers on its pages and the pages are perfectly separated out. but the moment i upload the file on amazon for e-book version .. the pages merge as whole instead of appearing as different pages. i've no idea what the problem is, the preview for my e-book version doesn't show the pages as separate pages.

    This was a great tutorial, however the Word I have did not create a proper Table of Contents. I don't know which version you are using, the one I have is different...

    Sorry, too 'jerky'. You talk too fast, the mouse is all over the page, and too many references and asides. No help at all to me. Slow down.

    How can I erase the page number on chapters, title page, copyright page etc. I mean, how to erase the page number on specific pages?

    I have added a lot of images to my ebook while designing in canva. While converting it into a manuscript the document became very disordered . So is it a waste of time to add images to our ebook...Since people read this manuscript right?
