Have you written a behemoth? How big (or small) is your book?
My third book is currently sitting at 100 thousand words, and your video has come at just the right time! Great content and easy to follow, it's going to make the process much easier! Thank you.
Thanks for video 👍

My book is 190,000 words. Help 😭😅
I have a small how to book, only 11k words & 31 pages in word.
I just spent the last 7 months writing my life story. With God as my co author. 7 months writing about an unique life. It's 32 chapters and 827 pages. A long 7 month creative writing session. Your video is helping me A LOT. Thanks
Perfect - I work for a small rural newspaper publisher - I am completely new to Kindle (never even read a Kindle book) and your video is what I needed to talk further with the powers that be about the process thanks for clearing the smoke . David
Wow I can not tell you how many formatting ebook videos I watched before yours and nowhere did anyone else mention the TextEdit clean up tip. You are amazing!
My favorite part too
Brilliant approach to formatting. I teach doctoral students and will be recommending this approach to get them to use APA style. BRAVA!
Very helpful, thanks. I can see me watching this over and over again!
This is a great video. You provided the perfect amount of detail and explanation so as to allow me to follow along and do everything you describe, while also understanding the why of what is being done. So many of these sorts of videos get bogged down in overly generalized discussions that go on and on. I have written my first 60,000 word erotica novel (does 60,000 words make a "novel"?), and you have helped me finalize it. I think it looks very professional now thanks to you. Thank you so much.
I never thought about the best font to use in formating, great information.
WOW Naomi, what a lot of great information, thanks so much for sharing. It will certainly help me in formatting my first e-book.
Thank you. You're a great teacher and the best so far on formatting for Kindle. This was really helpful!
THANKS for your information Naomi!
brilliant, expressive, lively, articulate... thanks Naomi :)
I found your instructions really easy to follow. I use styles often, and have found that assigning a shortcut key makes the process even faster.
This is great! Whenever I decide to publish a book I'll keep this in mind and rewatch your video!
Yay! I can't wait to see what book you publish!
Well done. Just right video for my first attempt at Kindle book. Thanks!
Perfect, thanks a lot - just what I needed.
Thanks a ton. This was the simplest and most informative of the zillion videos I have seen. Thanks again.
Great tips. I wish I found this video before I self-published my first book! Thank you!
TIL that there are people out there who collect fonts...
I've watched about a dozen videos on formatting and yours is the clearest and most helpful.
Brilliant! You’re very knowledgeable and we are lucky you have shared your wisdom with us. Thank you. 🙏🏽❤️
So nice of you, thank you!
Finally! Someone who knows what she’s doing. Thank you.
Thank you for the very excellent tutorial!
Nicely done, Naomi. Getting ready to dive into the self-publishing arena shortly with my first book. Thanks for all your tips!
That's awesome!! I'm so glad. And you're so welcome - I'm glad you're finding them helpful.
Excellent information. I could have used this a few years ago when I published my first books. Thanks for the video.
Alas, I have no TARDIS. But I am so glad you found value in the video now. Thank you!
Thank you very much for your help 🙏
You impressed me.
The way you covered up the topic and the way you expressed them!
Splendid!
Thank you so much for the instruction. I'm publishing my first book and it will really come in handy!
Awesome video. So helpful and easy to follow!! Thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a lot for the lesson. It has helped me greatly.
Very well done, I've been typesetting print books for over 6 years, this tutorial has answered many questions I have about eBook formatting.
The best teacher!
Super-helpful video! Thank you.
You have just showed me so many functions in WORD that I didn't even know existed! I wish I would have seen this back in my office days, I have literally wasted hours trying to update documents created 5 years ago instead of creating new ones because I thought it would be 'quicker' LOL Definitely keeping these tips in mind for my own business going forward, thank you! 🙏
Oh I've totally been there... 😂 I'm glad I can save you any future hours of work updating documents.
@@helpmenaomi You can! Thanks again :)
Thanks for this awesome video. It answered all my questions as I went, I followed it, and uploaded to KDP and everything looks perfect. Thanks sooo much
Dude, this tutorial was so helpful! Amazing!!!
Great video. Very helpful.
SUCH a good video, told me exactly what I was after and it worked yay!
Hey, thank you so much Naomi! I downloaded your template, populated it with my stuff, and the Kindle Previewer and my book is looking good for Kindle. There are a lot of things that you pointed out that I would have missed. Good on ya!
That's great to hear! Thank you so much for coming back to let me know it worked, I appreciate that so much.
I've used your template, it worked like magic, THANK YOU!
Oh yay! I am so glad to hear it, and you are So. Welcome!!
I wish I had watched this prior to using Kindle Create. My book is very film script like with dialog and action instruction in addition to paragraphs. I determined it is faster to continue to edit almost each line in Create rather than start over. I don't make that mistake again. Thank you very much for your excellent video.
Good information. Thanks
Excellent presentation
Thanks Naomi. I like the way you teach! I've just finished a rough first draft of a non-fiction book (5,000 words). Writing and editing is easy for me (well, not easy, but I know what I'm doing), but it's this next step of formatting that is a challenge, and your video has been very helpful.. Thank you.
Oh yay! I am so glad you found this helpful. And congratulations on finishing up your rough draft!
Super helpful. I never thought of using word for ebook publications. This is so much easier than the other methods like InDesign
Oh I love InDesign! But yea, this method is much faster and easier (especially for beginners).
Great video. Thanks much.
Thank you for this.
Thanks Naomi. Simply the best and clearest tutorial I've come across. You're funny too!
I have memoir of 90k words which stacks up at about 244 pages and I now have the confidence to do the formatting myself x
Thank you! I'm so glad you found this helpful.
This was great! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Thank you so much! you made my task of publishing my book on Kindle so easier!!
This is super helpful. I'm in a state of draft with my book right now, but I know where to come for the juice! Thank you!
Oh yay!! Don't forget to let me know when your book comes out so I can go and check it out.
Thanks for sharing!
So well done! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! What a helpful video! Thanks.
most informative, much appreciated
You are a star 👍🥰 thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for sharing a very helpful video...
Thank you for watching!
This is hugely helpful. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
This was great! Thank you for this as I get ready to update my book and fix my formatting :). Subscribed!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great work
Very helpful. Thanks. Your presentation style is light, animated and quite engaging. I suspect it takes some practice to come off so inviting. My videos are more Hollywood because I can't do the natural thing you do. Keep up the good work!
Wow I had no idea this was so easy!
This is so well done. Thanks.
Thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful.
I like that you used the word MINIMALIST. Nice, and thanks for that word. It is what my specialty - CONCISION - is all about.
Wow...you rocked it! Thank You.
Thank you so much!
Thank you!!!
You are loved, thanks, regards.
You are so kind
Very nice. Easy to understand and follow. Thanks sis. I'm ready to tell the world my stories. Ha ha.
Great Info, thank you!
My pleasure!
Thanks for this!
My pleasure!
YOU ARE VERY WELL (AND CLEARLY) SPOKEN. IT WAS A PLEASURE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO. I WILL RETURN TO IT FOR REFERENCE.
Awesome! Thank you!
You are a life saver
this is wonderful
Great video
thanks, you are an excellent teacher
Thank you! 😃
Thanks for sharing.g8 layout. I actually was able to see what was missing from my book. The template did not open on my computer so i used it in goggle doc where it lost much of the formating but it wsa still very helpful.
You're amazing! :-) Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Thanks 🌎 Greetings from Colombia. The Venezuelan immigrant writer 🇻🇪
Very useful information on formatting for a novice like me. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes. (Far from a behemoth!)
Wow! This is exactly right (write)! Many thanks Naomi; what you have should be bottled.
Cheers

I have about 70 short (8-10K) e-books out on KINDLE using your method! Thank you! Now, I type my complete book in draft view, and use Calibri Bold for everything. Heading 1 for Chapter Titles (I just number chapters usually). I can go from finished draft to published e-book in less than 5 minutes!
I like how I can catch extra spaces and paragraph spaces in Draft view. Now, I'm putting some of my e-book bundles into paperback format. For covers, I use CANVA PRO.
Great video...
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to watch.
I can't imagine a clearer description of how to produce an excellent kindle book.
Thanks
Hi Naomi - Do you have a video for formatting a PAPERBACK ONLY on KDP? Your ebook video was fabulous! I'm looking for an easy-to-understand way to format a paperback. Thanks! and congrats on an excellent tutorial!
Hi! I don't have one yet, but I will record one for you today and give you the link as soon as I upload it!
Hi! Thank you for helping us format our kindle book, we really appreciate your help! You were so clear and easy to follow.
Now we have another question, do you, by any chance have a video on how to format an Amazon paperback book? Ruth
good video
Correctly explained. Hopefully, it will resolve my issue of error in uploading in kindle create.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Let me know if you are still having issues; this video is a little out of date and I do need to update it.
@@helpmenaomi Yes. I will try & let you know. While uploading my file on kindle create, received message:error in source file.
I was trying. My book has tables. Those are not copied.
Hi, Naomi. This is immensely helpful! I'm just beginning to learn formatting and, watching this, it seems I've made a first big step (into this mysterious world of formatting).
I especially like the "nuclear method" (formatting should start with an unformatted document: this I've heard, but how can you be absolutely sure, if it's been worked over many times? I had wondered. "Nuclear method" gave an answer). The Notepad in my PC allows only "Paste." Is there an alternative? For example, may Google docs work the same way? *I did some search after writing this question, and it seems converting a .doc file into a "txt" file maybe has the same effect? (Pardon me, I'm really all thumbs when it comes to computer skills).
Any comment will be helpful and appreciated!
Hey! Late to the party but my book will be about 600 plus pages. It’s a memoir so it should be entertaining!
Sweet!
Thank for the video.
I Notepad I only have 'Paste', so installed Notepad++ In Notepad++ I still don't have 'paste and match formatting' but at least have 'Paste special' and under that 'paste HTML content' and 'paste rtf content'.
Will 'paste rtf content' do the same job of cleaning up what I paste from Word?
a great video. I write behemoths - Safe Stretch is 807 pages long and has thousands of images. It will take me quite a while but will use your ideas to turn them into ebooks. Thanks
Thx,Naomi. i am happy to have stumbled upon your video on formatting. you say anyone could do it.Well,I will try now. If I should need to consult you on any or some confusing points related to book formatting, how do I get in touch please ? Thank you
Glad it was helpful! If you need extra help you can always email me at naomi@ helpmenaomi .com and we can talk about my services.
that is what some pros say always, now I did run the sides through an simple editor, and copied it back in a new word page. Thank You. I´ve got Jutoh, but there is not enough explication in our language, perh. for later. So I could try to bring that up to amazon kindle.
Hi Naomi, This video is so helpful. Thank you so much. I had been putting off formatting my book (my first book) because I was so unsure of how to complete this step. I do have one question though. How do I format bulleted lists? Is there anything special that I need to do to them? Thanks again for this awesome video! Kathy
Hi! There is no special formatting for bulleted lists; indent a little more than the normal margin and you're fine.
thank you for sharing, can you tell me the dimensions? The download was corrupted.
Thanks for the video. Whether I right click or got to Edit, I can only see 'Paste' in Notepad - not Paste and match formatting', or any other paste options. How can I get what you describe please? I notice that Word seems to be in Compatibility Mode (whatever that is). Would this be a reason I cannot see more than one paste option in Notepad?
Could you possibly show us how to create a Logical Table of Contents - ncx toc?
YES! That's a great idea.
How do you handle the cover page vertical center? I can't figure out any easy way to center the title, subtitle, and author's name on the title page.
Excellent explanation.
I have a question: how should the end notes be treated?
Great question! To insert endnotes, you have to start by inserting foot notes.
In your main body content, place the cursor where you want the footnote link to appear.
At the top of the window, in the References menu, click Insert Footnote.
The cursor will jump to the footnote section at the bottom of the page. Enter your footnote text here.
When you upload your book to KDP, your footnotes will be converted to endnotes automatically.
Wow this is the best easy to follow guide in formatting. Question, I have a non fiction book which requires footnotes on certain images. Will I just put it under the photo just like any document?
Hi! Yes, just add them as a footnote. One thing to note is that Amazon will automatically reformat footnotes to be linked as endnotes (since page length isn't a thing on Kindle). So don't be surprised if you don't see them directly under your images in your Kindle. :)
Hi, You did great job explaining how to format your WORD document. How do you handle footnotes and endnotes? From what I understand Kindle will automatically convert footnotes to endnotes, but what if I want only footnotes? Thanks
I am so sorry for the late reply here; I didn't see your comment right away. Kindle does convert your footnotes to endnotes, and there's really no way around that. But you can resolve the issue by placing links to your footnotes and back again (so, place a link within your text that will bring the reader to the correct endnote when they want to see it, then place a link within the endnote that brings them back to the original reference point when they are done). This way, a reader can view the endnotes within context as if they were footnotes without getting lost or having to scroll through a whole bunch of pages to get back to where they were.
