You would want the longer stand-offs for the diffuser if you want to make it even softer. The farther away your diffusion material is from your source, the softer it gets. So say you wanted to use this as a close up key light, you would want the larger stand-offs to give a really nice soft light on your subject.
Soft shadows are caused by the size of the source light in relation to the subject. Softboxes make soft shadows because it make the source light bigger. If the light were strong enough, soft boxes would make hard shadows if far enough away. Think about the Sun. It's gigantic, but creates hard shadows. Relative to us, it's a small light source. Cloudy days make super soft shadows because the entire sky is a softbox. All that being said, having longer extensions would not make softer shadows with the included diffuser. Maybe a little softer because more light would extend to the edge of the diffuser. Moving the light with the diffuser closer to the subject will get the softer shadows without the use of longer extentions.

Thanks! Desk has an rgb strip running on the back side, nothing fancy the cheapest one I could find on Amazon.

Would these be insufficient for lighting a subject on a stage from say 15 feet away?

i was about to buy these but you showed the most important info. they are only 28watts... =(
For some reason I never use them more than about 30% but if you have a large room and you need a lot of light then I guess these might not be it.
@@JustVlads yes i agree with you, im looking for a strong power panel for outdoor shooting. at least 100-120 watts . The GVM QX-RGB-150S is the right one for me. i can use a bowens softbox and still get a high power light source. ill have to get a vagabond mini or stronger power source.
