Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed the bloopers. 😜👌
Here's a link for the light on Amazon if you wanna read more: amzn.to/2FcrVJu
Lol, the bloopers... I was expecting the final outro sentence as "Ok, I'm _dodone_ "
Glad to see Im not the only blooper machine out here...haha
Bit of a shame that you didnt show some kind of B-roll of the light in action. I'm all for seeing it light up the wall behind you, but I would have preferred something more substantial.
Thanks! What would you say? For the price you would better buy 3 yongnuo 360 or this one ?
But your link has a different Light, not the RGB?
How do you not have even more subscribers. For gods sake. The most informative photo channel - period!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the encouragement. 😃🙏
@Event Horizon Films Well. I like it. But if it does annoy - to each their own. It does not take away from the fact that his videos are super informative and solid. I learn more from him about photography than anyone else for sure.
He even tells us he's crazy at the beginning and we still like him. 😊
You're a wizard! You've managed to point out the flaws of this light panel, while always looking on the bright side... [rim shot]
Oh, man, I love the RGB options.
Thanks so much for this wonderful review! I got the set of three LED lights at $260 (new) but I didn't know how to use them. Your review helped me so much! You have a wonder talent in delivering a message, congratulations! Ooh and loved your bloopers.
Great video Gerald! Super helpful and delivered with great intensididdy.🤪
Haha! Thanks, Dunna! 😃👍
I just came across this light yesterday in a bargain store for $19! Yes $19. I couldn’t believe it. I can’t wait to use it. Thanks for the detailed video.
Wtf, what s the name of store ?
Sir you are the only one out of all the videos I’ve watched that’s explained the hue , cc, and sat on the light itself. Not just the app so thank you
When the light is green (just after it shows the packaging) there's some really cool separation between you and the background. This light looks very convenient!
Yeah, I know right?! There were times where it almost looked fake. Like it was done in post. It's a neat effect. 😃👍
Such a solid review! Your channel is ridiculously descriptive and useful. Keep up the wonderful work!
I have Lowell and wasn't looking for lights, but on Black Friday these popped up. I was like, "Why not?" My Lowells are better but old with no remote nor battery slot. Plus, they're a pain to set up. Man was this a win!! Days later, this set went up $200 more than what I paid for it. I've already benefitted because I needed to shoot something real quick and was able to do so with one GVM panel. Hassle-free.
Thanks for this. I had read conflicting reviews, but I had to watch your video because you are not only truthful, but well-informed.
I never comment on videos, but this was one of the best reviews I've found on any A/V product. Good stuff man.
Wow! Thanks so much. That's really kind of you. Cheers!
I just picked one of these up, less for filming and more because I wanted a good RGB solution that I could plug in and leave run for hours at a clip to accent my work area. Really excited, looks like a great solution for not a lot of coin. Thanks!
Thank you for changing the light while talking. Makes me want one.
😃👍
Congrats or reaching 25K sub. As I have said, you do a fantastic job presenting the information and allowing the viewer to decide if it works for them. This is why many of us appreciate your work because in the long run your videos help build a foundation so we can make logical choices for what works for us I am considering purchasing one. The value to me outweighs some of the limitations for what I may use it for. Thank you you continued hard work and look forward to your 50K video in the next week or two :-)
Thanks for your encouragement and optimism, Phil. 😃🙏
I have couple GVM bi-color panels with stands, absolutely love them. They've exceeded my expectations, and I haven't had single issue with them. They have 1% increment steps, and it's nice and smooth, and I'm running off the sony batteries, so no power cable problems. Love the little remote they came with too. Great review on this RGB option, thank you.
Fair, even-handed take on the pros and cons. Nice production values.
GERALD, NICELY DONE. HE AIN'T CRAZZZZYYY. Nice work and informative!
Good bloopers. Glad I stumbled across this channel as you are very clear and easy to understand.
One of the best review videos I have seen in a while! Great work
😀🙏
Wow. A ten box, unboxing record. Amazing.
Thank you for straight forward explanation and suggestions... I am new to lighting for home studio... Awesome video...
Very extensive review. Very thorough, honest and helpful
Thanks, James!
Hi Gerald. Just letting you know I use these exact same lights and I got the kit with the remote control with it. The remote does allow you to control them independently so you can have different intensities in each head (even in a master and slave scenario). In addition to that you can assign heads to different groups giving you event more separation and control. So for example, you could say put head 1 in group 1 at 100% brightness and head 2 in group 2 at 50% brightness defining a scene. One annoying thing is when you cycle through the colour spectrum, they loose some intensity around the middle setting as the LED’s cycle from tungsten to daylight.
Thanks, Arthur. Is that only possible with the remote?
I believe so.
The Aputure light also charges the batteries and soon will be able to connect to the new bluetooth SIG mesh network via a add-on adapter which will be incredibly useful.
Wow, just discovered this channel because I was interested in the light. Your review style is AWESOME! Sub'd
LEDs get undone! Awesome review, it made me order a set of these. I've been looking for some led panels for some time now to act as fill lights or hair lights. But them having RGB gives them a whole other dimension of usage in adding color to backgrounds or subjects. Stoked to go out and use them! Thanks for the recommendation Gerald!
Great review, very concise. Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but if you set each "slave" to a different channel, then you can have the "Master" adjust them individually.
Great review. You articulate yourself well 👌🏼 Subscribed
👍Thorough and well balanced review. “Kinky” can be fun 😁. Perhaps the smushed cord had previously been removed and replaced at the factory or somewhere enroute. (Wish you didn’t talk so slowly 😂.)
I like how videos from my friends pop up when i search for videos on RGB panels :P
Very informative and honest video. I have one Yunglo 360 red wand & this made me want to add these to the kit as well until i can justify & afford some Skypanels..lol
Thanks, Matt! How do you like the wand?
Great review. Really appreciated the details. I have GVM bi-color lights as well and agree on many of your points.
So quick question Gerald, if you were to spend the $240 on a key light, would you get this, or the 3 pack, non-rgb with stands for $279 and have more light? My new home studio will just be 9' x 11', so I'm thinking one would be enough.
If I was just looking for a single light as a key light and had no intention of using RGB, I'd probably go with a Falcon Eyes similar to what I covered in a previous video: ruclips.net/video/ueXt4mZw6Kk/видео.html. Either the 28 or 48. It's a bit cheaper and is diffused.
If you could take advantage of the RGB, though, then I'd definitely get the GVM-50RS.
Multiple lights is nice if you plan on doing a 3-point lighting setup or want more flexibility, but they aren't my favourite lights for a straight up key.
@@geraldundone Awesome, thanks!
@@geraldundone Are you attending CES this week?
@@51Drones I'd love to, but I don't think it's in the cards this year. What about you?
@@geraldundone Same. Just too busy this time of year. However, I am already planning for next year!
Mr. Undone, Thanks, as always, for the FANTASTIC video!! Since Sweetie & I only vlog from Bed [since 2007] we are hot and bothered about these exciting inexpensive GVM 50RS RGB LED lights. We were on Amazon about to pull the trigger [via your affiliate links, of course]. Then I noticed GVM has TWO BRAND NEW RGB 2 lights kits at about this price… But we can’t make ANY sense about how they compare to the 50RS you revived. It SEEMS the R50R288 has FEWER lights but better diffusion, but MAY be better [or worse] and the [almost same price] GVM 1000D MAY have many more lights for same price… but OLDER diffusion. We are SOOOOO confused and stuck in bed poorly lit afraid too make the WRONG $400-$500 purchase. Has GVM hooked you top with these 2 new models? Can you bring your brilliance to compare the 3 models? No one can do what you do. And LV and I are REALLY eager to add some more color to our Bed Vlogs… We really need your help. Please, pretty please with Xmas Candy canes on top!!! - Zork & Sweetie [Bed Vlogging since 2017 with bad lighting ]
First time watching Gerald with headphones... Shocked by the sound attack I experienced...
Awesome review dude, education and some laughs,
imma put that light on my shopping list fo sho !
Thanks for this review! I've been looking for some new RGB light panels and this one came across my searches, it looks quite good and I'm sure it's worth the price but gosh is it expensive. Gonna keep this one in the back of my mind for later :D
"10 boxes for this panel new record for this channel"😂😂😂
Watching now, thanks bud! 👍👍👍
At 4:30 - 4:55 I sub'd just for that comical story lol! Great content! Can't wait to see whats next!
Haha. Awesome! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for subscribing. Looking forward to more comments. 😃👍
Man, you go deep on this review. Great!
Thanks, Gerald, great review! I just bought a 2-pack of the non-RGB versions and like them (great price). They have the same cord issue with bent prong, lol, but easy to bend straight and I slapped a couple rubber bands on the light stand for the power brick which at least is pretty light weight. Would love the RGB version though, as the first thing I did was put a gel on there which was a pain to cut to size and also lowered the brightness of this not-super-bright light quite a bit.
Thanks, Scot! Yeah, I went a similar route--cable tied it to the stand. Was the two-pack on for a good price?
Yeah it was an Amazon lightning deal last week for $123 US
Man this review is professional, good job 👏
Thanks Gerald! What the different between the GVM 50RS & GVM 800D?
You mean you don't do it all in one flawless take? Everything I thought I knew was wrong! Still, at least I can be sure that Kasey from Camera Conspiracies will never eat meat!
Great video as always! And never doubt the internet on catching that “kinky” cord...😂 (insert childish chuckle here)
Haha. I was going to make a joke about it myself, but I figured I'd let the comments handle it. 😜👍
It’s all in good fun 😁
Man, was almost certain on some lights to buy until I found this video. Originally I was looking for a set of good interview lights, nothing too fancy - some Newer 600leds had my attention. But in time I know I'll want some good rgb lights... maybe it's worth it to just splurge on these? Great review as always man
Excellent and thorough video, thanks!
this is a great review! thank you it was very helpful
Nice review!
Hey Gerald I would love to see a FAQ video you get on your channel!
Nice review. Might have to pick some up to up my RGB game.
haha!! Same here... We open 3 boxes before the 6 small ones...
Very detailed. Thank you
thank you...great video for a novice like myself.
Pros and cons - just what I want to know 👏👏👏👏😋
Video was super helpful this light has some amazing features for a great price. I do wonder how this 50RS model compares to their cheaper 800D model though. Does it lack any features for example that this one has?
This is my favorite light I own from GVM. The only issue I have is that the batteries drain when they are attached even when it’s turned off. Same thing with my GVM 10s. And the other one is that the lowest brightness still starts off very bright- which you can kinda fix with the barn doors, but overall, it’s an excellent product for the price and my go-to for things like gym motto videos and stuff like that
"Now Gerald, I could get into!"
Haha. Love it!
Thank you, this was very informative. I am quite new to this stuff! Can I use only 1 GVM RGB Video Light as the backlight, and use 2 dimmable bicolor 660 LED lights as the key & filler lights on the foreground and still get a color gradient effect? And if I want to clash lights, do I need to have 2 RGB backlights, and 2 dimmable bicolor led lights for key & filler light (4 lights in total) or would it suffice to have 1 bicolor key light and 2 RGB backlights (3 lights in total)? Thank you for helping!
Yo! Subscribed my man. Keep going!
Great review !
great review!
Drinking Game: Every time Gerald adjust the color on the panel, take a shot
More lights! Let me know if you ever find yourself in Ottawa, Gerald!
I have the Aputure 672 kit, and I think this might be the perfect compliment for backgrounds and creative colour effects. Since you have both lights, does the daylight setting match up so I can use this as an extra normal light in a pinch? Great content as always!
Thanks for sharing..... funny.
I agree the cord needs to be longer the the light stand ... Did you say to kinky? No such thing lol You what I don't like about panels no way to use a softbox .. BTW you did a great job with this review . Thank you sir. To many people do reviews and know nothing about what they are reviewing . Does this give you the color numbers during rgb?
Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate it.
It uses HSI, so no RGB numbers. But Hue and Saturation.
Great video and great info. Thanks. What do you think is the best value/budget led 3 piece kit I could buy for a small to medium setup? (I realise that's slightly vague!)
Thanks! I would actually look at the GVM set. Like this one: amzn.to/2WY9kr5
Although it seems to be more expensive in the UK: amzn.to/2I6ikXB (Seems like they've updated to a newer, more expensive model)
The Neewer lights are fine too for even cheaper, it's just harder to adjust the colour temp, because it's two knobs:
amzn.to/2SpQhak or amzn.to/2BvBFeS
crayola needs to make a Gerald Purple.
12:24 for sexiness haha. nicely done. ;)
😜🙏
New Intro ...
"Coming at ya while I put the intensisity in your LCDDs".
Did you get the new GVM 800D kit?
I haven't, but from quick research it seems like a pretty solid value.
I bought this from Amazon (UK) this week and I can say whilst it seems they have updated the product there are certainly drawbacks from this light.
First is that yes the lowest setting (1% now, not just 5% jumps) is still too bright. Also now it has 1% increments it takes FOREVER to scrub up and down the power range.
Second, and perhaps the worst aspect is that the % power seems to be totally random- it hardly changes in brightness for some parts of the range and makes a huge difference at other parts, regardless of the K temperature chosen.
Third is a slight change to the “diffusion panel” (which is not included the same as in this video- it’s just a sheet which sits RIGHT next to the LESs) but the barn doors were attached right from the box. It does mean though that my intended use with a soft box is a little more fussy but these can be removed.
I can also note that the kinky wire situation has been fixed, but that the wire lengths are still not ideal.
Overall I’m happy I have RGB in a decent power, but isn’t quite the do-all light I had hoped. That said it cost me £112 shipped, so can’t complain.
Happy to answer any questions,
👌
I forgot to add- the ACTUAL main drawback of these lights is that they just aren’t that bright.....with a double layer softbox im struggling to get acceptable camera settings whilst lighting my subject evenly from edge to edge.
With the inverse square law meaning a flatlay requires the source to be a decent distance away from the subject (in comparison to video, where the light can be much closer)
In order to get a relatively even light from edge to edge without a too-dramatic falloff within the frame, this light just isn’t bright enough at its daylight setting.
@@Alex-hongry thanks for the added info. I was planning to get 2 of these lights for wedding shoots, particularly receptions and the dance floor, but it seems these lights won't cut it. Thanks 🤙🏻
That Tim & Eric clip just got you a subscriber haha #celeryman
3:33 and 3:48 how did you do this with a straight face? Great review
how is this light compare to luxil timpani 1x1
Thanks for another great gem, Gerald!
One question: the GVM product page claims the max output of this panel to be 18500lux @0.5m, which means it beats out the Apurture 120D (14000lux @0.5M) in terms of brightness. I find this a little hard to believe, can you confirm or deny this claim? If so, you might have just introduced to me the portable alternative to the 120D that I've been searching for.
Yeah, I don't think that's right either. For me it measured around 7500lux at 0.5m.
@@geraldundone Much appreciated! That's a significant difference, but regardless, this light is still a fantastic deal for the price. Thanks again for bringing it our attention.
@@ChaseChronicles Hi Gerald is that 7500 lux @ 0.5m in tungsten/daylight mode? Or RGB mode? Just wondering if the light suffers from the issue of tungsten/daylight being bright but RGB taking a hit in power.
they look promising, are there any alternatives to these GVM ones, that you used or can recommend?
That's a crazy price for a panel like that.
Haha just finished watching your video on RGB light panels
I about to buy mine
just an amazing review. i really needed this as im looking for lights for car photography. but cant decide between the smaller apurture lights like the AL-MW or rgb lights or a panel like this. any sugestions?!!
To make it more complicated for you, have you seen this light? ruclips.net/video/cUiMoi5WKhM/видео.html
What you think about the GVM 800D-RGB LED compared to these?
They have so many different model numbers. What model would be good for taking pictures to list on ebay?
GVM 800D WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT?
wonderful tutorial, thanks! I could not find instructions in internet. and the app does not work to me. Thanks a lot.
AC DC adapters always have a short lead on the DC side : it's lower voltage, and DC, therefore wire losses will be greater. Same reason the power grid uses very high voltages. You can make a longer low voltage cable, it's just going to take fatter cable with more copper and that sh*t is expensive. And bulky.
Would you consider this powerful enough as a main / key light for general use? Thanks.
The Amazon link is broken, does anyone have a correct link
Would you recommend the 50rs over the 800d?
Cool
this is a great price too
Which one would you recommend? This one or the Aputure 672?
Hey Gerald, we currently have a godox sl60w with large softbox and were looking for a secondary light, but wanted something maybe a little more compact as it takes up a lot of space. Is there a similarly priced light panel you could recommend?
Are these lights flicker free at higher framerates? Not seeing anything online to tell me either way
Also any chance of a review of the Mark ii version?
I've watched this video 3 times now to try and find a reason not to buy this light LOL. I really want an rgb led light to help bring some color into my backgrounds but there's literally no decent cheap option. At $200, this is still one of the cheapest. But for me, 200 is still a lot. Still probably gonna buy it tho
Yeah, I know what you mean. $200 isn't nothing, but it's definitely the best option around. I think you'll enjoy it if you can find room in the budget.
@@geraldundone Will definitely get it when I can. And I'll be sure to use your links. Thanks a ton for your recommendations and review videos. Top notch work.
The yongnuo 600 rgb is only half the price ;)
Hi! 50 and 800 is it different lights?
Do you know how much brighter this is compared to the 800d?
Can you recommend me a light as warm as possible? Prefered on camera light
