Hi Gerald, I own both lights now, the Boling P1 and the Aputure MC. I found out that the Aputure even at 100% saturation and brightness does have always lighter colors than the Boling. The white LEDs don't shut off in color mode, so you never get the intense color of the Boling. You are right that the Boling isn't accurate under 50% brightness, but this is a clear disadvantage to the Aputure that you'll never get such clean saturated colors.

I'm actually surprised. I imagined the confluence of these two extremes of the technical competency spectrum (no offense, Kasey!) would lead to some kind of _Lost_ style "Incident", or at least a mini black hole that swallowed large parts of Ontario, but you both came out of it unscathed. Kasey is so cute when he has to interact with other people, though :D

@@geraldundone yes, the F7. I don't have anything to compare it too, but it's color temp says 2500 to 9000 and is also finicky when dialing the intensity. It's got 20 special modes. About half are similar, but at different speeds. I got the package with the diffuser and honeycomb. They make a pretty big difference, but the fit isn't very elegant. Like a too big condom.
No app control. Which I really think that is the biggest plus for the aperture. If I remember from what I saw at NAB, you can set different channels for each and really get the disco going on.
I’d really like to see the P1 vs F7... not one comparison on RUclips right now.

Question about the color picker, does it let you use the complementary color, so you dont have to look it up manually change to it once you've picked the color you want? I could see picking a color and then wanting to use its complementary color.
Gerald, I absolutely love your channel. The quality of information you provide on your channel is like no other. Thank you for that! But I do wanna say this to all of my fellow filmmakers out there... All you need to make a cinematic image is 1 light, and something to diffuse that light with. That is it. You do not need every new light or camera that comes out. There are too many wannabe filmmakers that upgrade their camera every time a new one is released. That buy a new light every time a new one with a ton cool features is released. Do not be this guy. You are wasting your money. Pick up the camera you have, turn on your 1 light, put diffusion in front of it, and SHOOT. It is as simple as that my friends. Do not let these company selling all these different products fool you. All of these master cinematographers are striving to use the least amount of lights they possibly can & doing everything they can to soften the digital image. Not make it sharper. They are using soft lenses as opposed to sharp lenses, they are putting Tiffen SOFT FX diffusion filters on their lenses, they are softening the light. They are doing everything they can to soften the image to get rid of that digital look. That is what makes it cinematic. You don’t need 4K, you don’t need full frame, you don’t need the sharpest lens, you don’t need 10 different lights. My biggest advice to everyone is this: use whatever camera you have, nowadays any camera is good enough to make a film. Invest in 1 quality key light. Invest in a couple clear frosted shower curtains for diffusion. Write your perspective in a story. SHOOT! We are storytellers, not gear hoarders. There are too many of you that own 5 different lights, but can’t even make a cinematic image using one of them. The second you stop focusing on your gear, learn how to use that 1 light, and start focusing on your story is the moment you’ve begun something special

Fantastic review 🙌🏽 Seriously about to buy 3 of the Aputure MC’s lol! Can you confirm that the magnets on the back are safe to be near say a Sony LCD screen or EVF or sensor, etc?? I’ve actually had issue in the past with older camera LCD’s and magnets 🧲 🤔📷💡💡💡I can see a scenario where having a few of these in a tightly packed camera bag next to all the gear, drones, and laptop can be an issue if so. Thanks!

Great video, I’ve never used an RGB light so I don’t know how much output i need. I want to be able to add accents or soften up interviews / vlog faces in video videos , take some photos with colorized effects.. Will the Aputure MC be enough output ?

you might take a look to the new light from PFY called "PFY Matrix" which they just released from Germany. The cool thing is they have a smaller version as well.

I think his being Canadian might have something to do with the metric thing! And for "Canadian", read "From any country other than the US, Liberia and Myanmar..."
The problem is that of right now, you can get Yongnuo yn365 for 90$ which is essentially a Boling P1 without the mounting arm and with an even bigger battery. But I think I will still go with aperture - for portability, reliability, expandabilty and some other bility.
It finally happened. We can finally, conclusively say that Gerald and Kasey are in fact different people.
B&H had a short sale where I got the Boiling for $100. I also got the Aputure MC.

The Boling P1 exhibits quite a strong magenta cast, here. Were you white balanced to the MC for those shots?
