You dont have to take off the barn doors..you can just use the other mount hole on the bottom of the light ...you can mount then 2 ways an the other way the doors wont be in the way...it shows you on the manual
Yep another viewer mentioned that and we have mentioned that in 2 of our newer videos covering these lights. :0) Thanks for the input!
I just pulled the trigger on this and now I am watching this video. Nice quads and I have huge light boxes currently myself.
thanks for the upload man i appreciate it
Minute 15:03. Rolling eyes :))
Great review, btw. Thanks
Thanks for the demo. :)
Welcome!
really great video, and I went to Amazon and bought the light, because of your video and told them that I bought it because of your video on their site.Also I wasn't going to get the battery but after seeing the video, I bought them too, again thanks for a great video;
Mustafa0949 your so welcome! Thanks for giving me a shout out on their site! That’s so kind of you! Enjoy the light and thanks for checking out the video!
excellent introduction, will help one to decide.
Amazing review! Thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching!
Great review!! I’m gonna buy some. The transition from low to high range in Kelvin is really smooth. The RGB version they have isn’t as smooth as that light.
Agreed, I found the 480ls is a loooot smoother with a much wider dynamic range than the 520 that I compared it against. I’d be very curious about some RGB lights admittedly for mood lighting. But outside of that the 480ls is a constant winner for me :0) Thanks for the comment James! Also thanks for subscribing!
thanks....from south korea.
hi!! great video... the thing is.. u was at 25% of the light power but... what was ur camera setting?
THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO
Is it me, or is there a greenish cast coming from your key light?
Thank you so much for this comprehensive review! Would you know if only this specific GVM model has the wifi feature? Or is there any other model with the wifi feature? Also how quick are you able to connect through wifi for it to be functional? I'm a wedding videographer and events can happen very quick, so I'd like to be able to set these lights up and control them remotely with ease. Thanks again!
Scott Wu this is the only one I know of so far... but I personally love the WiFi feature. I think it works pretty quickly myself. Once you link the light up it stays linked. Now the only thing I have not tested is multiple lights and adjusting them individually. But the app does have “channels” so I would hope that would be a feature some how.
Awesome to hear! I only plan on using just 1 at a time, so if the wifi works great for you, I will probably get this. Thanks for the help!
Its absolutely got my vote. Setting up the wifi app is not as fun the first time (I need to make a video on it) but once you do its very very quick to get the app up and running and getting what you need. @@scottwu
Is there a reason my buttons do not work
I just ordered two of the 560 model yesterday and the title of your video startled me at first lol but just wanted to add, you can mount the light on the stand through that hole on the bracket and it will give you the room you need to tilt down. Hope that makes sense what I’m saying... the bracket instead of being in line with the light will now be at a 90 degree angle or perpendicular to it and the hole fits over the top of your light stand.
You know, I JUST realized that because my 560 model came in just today. and I looked at its manual and pretty much did a face smack. So I will be mentioning YOU and THAT in the next video when I review the 560 model :0) Thanks for the comment and for watching the video!
Legacy Studio no problem and thank you for the great review! I can’t wait to get mine in... I’m pretty new to the video side of things and have been doing a lot of gear research here lately. GVM seems to make some great products and I’m looking to add a lot of it to my arsenal. Looking forward to your review on the 560, keep up the great work!
So I just released my review, this one is the 520... and I didnt mention your name. BUT I WILL, I got another video im going to be releasing on the 480 and getting it hooked up on WIFI and I'll mention you on that :0)
It’s all good bro. I’m going to sub so I can catch all your reviews :D
Your the man :0) Thanks for the Sub!
¡GRACIAS!
Hello Legacy Studio, great review there is a kit of 3 light wondering controlling the 3 lights in separate channels Please. Thanks
Im afraid not. Most of the folks that comment here are unfortunately struggling to use the wifi option for anything more than one light. I would suggest getting a light with a controller that can control multiple lights. There are a bunch of great options for that. the last set I reviewed that have that would be "Switti".
Thanks for the video Tim. It was great! Would you prefer this set over the Neewer ones that are similar to this one on Amazon? Thanks again!
Odd, this says I hadnt replied to this but I swear I did! Huh! Excellent question Force, I have not gotten to try out the Neewar ones as of yet, and I do actually have another set coming in this week I will be reviewing from a different brand. I do feel however that most of these lights have quite a bit in common and may be from the same parent company with different logos and small changes to make them seem different. That ususally why, for me, I'm looking for the cheaper price. Which I think most people are doing otherwise we would all own 120Ds. So long story short it wouldnt surprise me if the quality of light wasnt much different. It just depends on what you are willing to put up with and how much your willing to pay for quality. I also found between reviewing the 480 and the 520 that the 480 has a much wider dynamic range than the 520. So you may want to check that on the Neewar lights to see how different they are in comparison to the 480s as well. And selfishly... Stay tuned because Ill be reviewing this new light kit in the next two weeks give or take and I may find something different about these new ones.
@@LegacyStudiowould love to hear your comments on it. I bought these and tried them, then I bought the Neewer ones and found them brighter. I liked the functionality on these better, but the extra light helped. Thank you for your videos!
hey Tim , I watched your video for the GVM light, 480LS and went to Amazon and bought one, well it just turned to a nightmare because after I received the light, the first thing wrong with it was that there weren't any standout bolts, and there wasn't a diffuser included in the kit. I remembered how large your diffuser was and that you showed four standout bolts, so I told the company about it and they sent me the standout bolts but no diffuser. Eventually, they sent me a diffuser but it was way too small, so they sent another, it was too small, and then finally they sent another which at least fit inside of the light through the sides. I never did get the diffuser you showed for yours, and I went on their site and they don't even list a diffuser as parts and acces. But what it does say on their site is that they have updated their lights, so I take that to mean that they have stopped giving out barn doors, and diffusers because neither of them are listed as parts for the new 482LS light system. So I figured I'd send you an email about it just because
even though I know you're not their spokesmen. I would have bought another one if the company had tried to do right , but insted I bought
Yongnuo YN-216 YN216 Pro LED Video Light 3200K-5500K Color Temperature Light for around the same price, and I think I'll be happy with it. But it is a shame that they don't keep up with their products, because I even told my friends about it, and when they heard about the hassle they decided to not buy one. I really like the light so I'll have to find some plastic and cut it to fit and drill
the holes for the standout bolts. Thanks just wanted to share, but still like the light.
Mustafa0949 wow that stinks!!! It’s pretty unfortunate how you can never be too certain what comes with the stuff you buy on amazon. I got in another set of lights I’m going to be reviewing from “Switti” some time this week. They came as a kit of two with some diffusion but no barn doors. I’ve used them for two shoots and they are faaairly close except not as strong dynamic range, and also no WiFi. But they seemed really good quality in comparison. So sorry you dealt with that and thanks for letting me know!
How do you tilt the light down with barn doors open? The bracket gets in way of barn doors
I promise I made the same mistake, there is a second mounting hole on the bracket. Mount that hole onto the light stand and it will give you more freedom to move the light at the cost of the height of the light being a few inches lower.
How can I change the channel of each unit so I can control multiple led lights at one time via app ?
Not that I am aware of, many folks have been having trouble with the app these days. I would set get a set that has the remote with them and you will be able to control each individually.
All the freestyle quads on the wall! Yaass!
LOL! Yep! Gotta enjoy being airborne.
Hi Legacy Studio! Fantastic review, thank you so much for sharing. I have just reviewed this video light and would love your feedback. Kind regards, TruePreView.
Awesome .... What camera are you using to shoot this video it looks pretty nice ..
Most likely either a Sony A6000 or Sony A6300.
Could you mix this light with the new version the 560as light? And not have any problems so long as you set it to the same settings on each?
That I am not sure about. These are a "budget" light so I am not sure how much effort they put in to making them a match. But in most cases I do use several different brands and types and I dont find I have any issues.
@@LegacyStudio Thank you. I ended up buying two of the 480ls lights. Waiting for them to arrive. But will need a hair light and one to light the bottom of a mannequin. What do you recommend for that? Not looking to spend a lot of money on those two lights, hopefully. :-) Thank you you've been very helpful and your review of the 480 is what made me purchase it.
You mounted the light wrong to tilt it down
Hey Tim, don’t mean to resurrect an old convo but do you know if this light “remembers” it’s last setting after a loss of power?
As far as I can tell it does. I still use it every day and it seems to hold the settings I've given it, and since I turn it on and off via a wifi plug instead of the switch on the back I would assume that would be a fairly accurate simulation of a power loss. Hope that helps you out James!
@@LegacyStudio amazing! Thanks a ton! That’s what I’m planning to do as well.
Great review! I picked up the 560AS3L and love them. What was the default password is to set these up through the app?
That's exactly what I am trying to remember myself. I cant find my paperwork on it and I have not found any online documentation on as of yet either. Let me know if you find out on your end!
I found it down below in another person’s comments. It’s gvm_admin. And the app only lets you control one light at a time and it’s the first one you turn on. Thanks for the quick response!
Awesome! Now I can make that followup video! BOOM! Thanks back to you for passing on that knowledge! @@MrGadgetDad
Video is officially created @Dale H. Should be up in about a week/week and a half hopefully.
what's the lumens on these?
Thanks for the great video - certainly easier than the support I've had from GVM so far.
I found the installation to the WiFi a bit clumsy - I did figure out how to connect my Samsung Note - actually seeing that you got WiFi to work with your unit caused me to uninstall the APP and then reinstall this time using 'gvm_admin' as the password. I was confused with their term 'REGISTER' thinking that had something to do with my order.
Perhaps you could do another short video on setting up the 480LS with wireless. Thanks for the good review!
Ooh thats an excellent idea! I actually have the next model up coming in with 520 LEDs and I think we can definitley do that! The manual had the login and password in the manual I believe. I also believe I remember something was oddly miss-spelled which I think confused me a second as well. The new light will be in on Wednesday and I will absolutely make that a video!
The video you suggested is FINALLY made, rendering as I type, and will be out somewhere around..... Feb 21st? Feb 25? Somewhere around there ish...
You were of course mentioned and thanked ;0)
Quick question here. Is the LED-480LS bright enough for a key light or should I just get a softbox instead? Thanks.
Excellent question. I think that would come down to two or three options... One, how close or far do you need it to be, and how hard a light source do you want. If you have a lot of room and want softer shadows, I strongly suggest a soft box. If you dont care about that so much you can absolutely utilize an led panel as a key light at close range. My personal pick these days would be to utilize a soft box for my key and an LED light panel as my backlight. But that is mainly because I love softer shadows. Hope that helps!
@@LegacyStudio Thanks for the help!
If you would mount the the light sideways on the tripod, you will have no problems with the barn doors down !
Yep! Mentioned that in my next video :0) Thanks for the input!
What camera are you using here?
Hmmmm... Proooobably my Sony A6300 with my Sigma 16mm F1.4 lens.
Hey, is it worth it to get the gvm 896 over these ones?
I have not tested the 896 myself. But in all honesty, the bigger the light panel the better. Simply because you need to make it as much of a "soft box" as possible. The bigger the light source the easier it is to control your image in your camera, and the softer you can make those hard shadows you get from smaller lights. So just in theory I would say yes. But I personally have only tested the 480s and the 520s.
Are they good for realstate photography?
I personally think so.
Why does your diffuser look so clear while other video reviews of it does look more matte?
LOL! You rock for noticing the details! So thats my wife's little defuser and its normal color is Blue and has little holes poked into it that look like fireflies. When its on it glows a little bit, when its off its just blue... so you can tell when the office needs a little "refresher" ;0)
Does this have RGB?
Unfortunately no, this one is just bi-color
Link please
Oh my goodness! How did I not put that in the description!!!!??? Thanks for letting me know Angel! Here's the link! amzn.to/2WslZAQ
Not strong enough for more than single person small setup. One would need 2-3 units...
