James, you are without a doubt my favorite POV channel. Your videos truly capture the coasters at their best. This video had my head spinning, it was like actually being on the ride. Keep up the great work my dude!
Went to Kennywood yesterday and I must say this ride looks sooooo much taller and scarier in person. The POV’s on youtube don’t give a good scale of how huge this coaster is. Better than the Phantom in my opinion! Be sure to get on this right when the park opens or closes or else you have a huge wait! ALSO!!! The lift hill may seem very long, but in person it sets up a great view for the riders and a huuuuuge anticipation!!!! The lift hill sets up this ride to perfection! Of course when I first saw povs I thought it was too slow but in person it sets up the ride soooooo goooood! Ride this in person to see how much intensity is actually present!
I was there around August 6th. I got caught up in the day ride was shut down. Well, from what I gather it has been up some days and shut down others. For me, that day appeared a test day. Seen guys on lifts checking frame way up etc. I was there open to close. The ride just kept repeating test runs with no riders all day. This was my first trip to Kennywood. As well, first park since 80s. Now I admit I will be the scared one here. I do not go much for coasters nor get on them that big. I do wonder in view of how great they look and move. That day was big for me I got on Racer and Jackrabbit dozen so times lol. I agree with Steel Curtain. One must see it in person. These vids hold nothing to it's size. I loved when it came down over me for about 4 sec you could hear silence than the power and wind. This thing is beast and I'll stay off it haha.
I was in the first car of the first run after the shutdown of the ride. Very concerning expirence especially because the car behind us had technical difficulties on the last test run. But this coaster is in my top 5 for sure. It's really incredible.
Sitting in the exact same seat that I sat in, noice going. Rode this day after opening day and by arriving at the park extremely early, was able to secure a place very close to the front of the line and thus only waited 2 hours.
2019 best new coaster But dispatch seems really slow I mean with that slow lift hill the train behind should have been loaded & departing by the time the lead train hit the brake run..& only 2 24 seat trains oh boy I can imagine the long wait
Not sure if I qualify as a rollercoaster enthusiast but I've ridden a lot of coasters nationwide. My observations: When I first heard about this coaster I was disappointed. They emphasized the inversions. I want "air time". This roller coaster, despite its many inversions still kept sneaking in unexpected drops with plenty of air time. Plus I have to say that the inversions themselves were thrilling because of 1) the speed and 2) the angles. It was a unique combination that I don't think I've experienced before. If anyone has ever ridden The original Hulk in Universal Park in Orlando, it reminds me of that and the Hulk is one of my favorite coasters. Plus if you are familiar with Apollo's chariot in Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Virginia, it has that slight fake-out at the top of the first incline. You'll know what I mean when you see it. It also wasn't the shortest coaster I've ever been on and was just great from beginning to end. The older and more fuddy-duddy I get, the less I can stand really jerky coasters. The Steel Curtain was fairly smooth for all of the sharp turns and drops. Some older wooden coasters and even the brand new steel coasters jerk riders around so that it feels like you are getting your ears boxed and we actually got bruises. This didn't happen on this coaster. It was just fun and the Steeler theme along with Renegade (Steelers fans will get it) on the way up were the cherries on the Sundae.
Missed it last year, but stoked to finally ride this year! Great POV btw. What do you use/do? Others feel too "clean" at times and look toooo perfect. Yours look real, like I'm on it, and have the best feel. I swear I feel like I am on the ride with your POVs. Superb job.
I know that singing on the lift has significance, but why the heck did they use the choral intro and not a more intense part where the band is playing? Would've done a much better job at building anticipation. (Still, looks like a great ride.)
Coasterfan312 renegade is pretty much the hype song for the Steelers, so for most of Pittsburgh (including myself) just hearing the song start is enough to get you going
I noticed that too. Basically the same problem as the Phantom's Revenge where most of the ride duration is on the lift hill. Pretty cool ride though and can't wait to try it out. :)
May I please use this for a video I’m working on about Steel Curtain? I will give credit to your channel with a link to your channel in the description of the video and also an on screen text stating that it is your footage. Thank you.
Brandon Meerwijk ...I’m actually not sure. I could remember once hearing that other coasters that Go over 200 ft but have inversions, examples being dive coasters like Griffon, Valravn, And Yukon, did not qualify as hyper coasters. But I might be wrong.
Am I the only one bothered by the change of speed on the lift hill? Why not just start out at that pace instead of slowly crawling up at the beginning. Also the speed into the station bothers me too. Seems unnecessarily slow and like it kills capacity. I must be ocd about it or something lol. 😂 Looks amazing though!
Maybe it's slow because there's still another train in the station 🙃 I think this coaster looks really cool. Too bad I don't have enough money to go to the USA for all these nice rollercoasters I only know because of RUclips 😭 THAT's what bothers me 😂
To answer the three speeds on the lift hill, Steel Curtain crawls till the last car is clear of the curved catwalks out of the station. Middle speed is till the second train 'parks' in the station. Fast speed is once the block infront is clear. In one train operation, it still crawls out till clear of the catwalks, then goes into full speed.
Central Florida enthusiast I agree, if your on the right side of the train you can barely hear it if your on the left you can, if your on the ground you also can. I wish they made it louder but it’s still cool
Hi, James! Do you allow your videos to be used in other RUclips videos with permission and in-video credit? I'm very new to the RUclips creation community but I've observed enough to know not to take freely! Thank you for the consideration. -Christopher
Sorry I’m late, but if you request a specific row they will let you go to that row. I nicely asked for front row, and I got what I asked for. Even if they tell you to go to a specific row, just ask them. They’ll let you if you ask.
Ride looks cool but did it have to have a Football/Pittsburgh Steelers Theme? It would be like Canada's Wonderland opening Toronto Raptors: The Ride. I don't like American Football and I don't like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kennywood needs to know that people from other areas go here.
They actually got this idea because the PA Tourism company interviewed people in England and when they were asked what they know about Pittsburgh, they said Steelers.
@@Stagnant_Gravy Is that true or a joke, cause if you ask me what I know about Pittsburgh, I'd say unemployment, abandoned buildings, Rust Belt city, a shadow of it's former self, and a great little amusement park just southeast from it
Coastaku the unemployment rate has been going down for years, and the people have been showing the few disgusting neighborhoods just to make the city look bad. Most are actually up and thriving, and I live in one myself. Most are buildings are abandoned for reasons, or are in those bad neighborhoods. The only concerning thing is the air quality, it isn’t LA bad. It’s this one Coke Coal Plant that’s been having pollution issues. Even the one Steel Mill right down the valley by KW which you can see to the right while riding Steel Curtain doesn’t send fumes to the park at all unless it’s windy. Sorry for the long message lol.
@@Stagnant_Gravy It's fine, I'm actually glad that Pittsburgh is making a comeback, at least it would be better than my local rust belt steel town of Hamilton, Ontario, just down the highway from me in Toronto. The air is visable, the water smells like sewage, the crime rate is high, the city is dirty and it's just a place you don't go to
Bro this thing has been down 3 times since it was installed and was down the entire weekend before my vacation, mother fucker was closed the day we got there, Kenny wood isn’t bad but the curtain woulda made it much more worth the trip
Everybody is different. I have never been all that impressed by inversions and cork screw rolls, in fact they seem to increase the g force by pressing you down more in your seat. Heights, and drops are what I really judge a coaster by. That point at the top of the lift hill where you slow down and anticipate the drop is the most exciting moment in my opinion.
I don't know why Kennywood always has there lift hills slow down and then speed up. Phantoms revenge does the same thing. Also this ride wastes a ton of time on the brake run and turn. The cycle time on this could easily be cut down by 45-60 seconds.
This has to be one of the most unique coasters I’ve ever seen.
I have GOT to try this ride next time I’m in the Pittsburgh area.
It was amazing I rode it in 2019 with my hubby and father in law and brother in law you are full of and happiness 🥲 😃
Finally a POV where you can hear Renegade! Thanks.
Welcome to my neck of the woods! Hope you enjoyed the park!
My parents stopped on the way to cedar point, but my dad said he wasn't gonna pay the prices for two hours.

They have Renegade playing while you go up the lift 😂😂😂
East Coast Coasters yep, it kinda cool. I don’t really like Steelers but if that music played louder it be better
They played something else this time. But at least now it’s loud enough.
East Coast Coasters Yinzer paradise, next they need a HEEEEEEEATH on one of the inverts
That is the Steelers
Looks like a solid beast. Seems unique

Because a normal loop isn't good enough anymore
Aj Milone no it’s not
Normal loopes are still fun, though.
This coaster is amazing I have ridden it and it made me go crazy and wanted to ride it again and again
2019 best new coaster

You seem to know a lot about coasters! I think you are a super retro good enthusiast, honestly!
This looks wicked cool, I definitely need to get to Kennywood once it reopens!
I was hoping you were gonna film this one lol, great video man.
Love the POV my man :) And this ride haulsssss
Do you like this ride? It’s been getting fairly positive reviews.
Yes ! It was really good.
WOW😮 The track in this coaster is MASSIVE!!!!😱😱😱😱
💀🤓🗿💀💀🤓
Sad I missed this for opening season, looks wild. Guess I have a reason to go to KW for 2020 :)

Coasterfan312 atleast we can both agree it makes the slow ass lift hill a bit better
A couple seconds of the more intense part kicks in when it disengages from the lift hill
Hey James C i have been subscribed for a month or less i don't remember. but i love you content and looking forward for more content by you.

Great POV as always. How is this ride? Specifically the airtime, pacing, intensity/force?

This is my favorite ride in the park. I have a season pass to Kennywood
So excited to try this tomorrow. 😍
Emily Marzullo how was it ??
2nd favorite coaster in Pennsylvania
Wow man nice POV keep up the good work! How. Long was the wait?
3 hours
James C Jesus was it worth it?
for me it was an hour and a half
I was there Tuesday and I bought a VIP and rode it 10 times and got a back seat POV. I am a season pass holder
OMG I can't wait to ride this Monday I'm sooo excited
Jesus how big is the drop?
This looks sick bro
Wow. What a coaster!
Can you call this a hypercoaster because this coaster has a minimum height of 200ft??

Spencer Maddox what about the mack hypercoaster, it has 2 inversions and it called a hypercoaster
It’s classification isn’t a hyper but technically it is.
Phantom Coasters we defenitely need a hypercoaster in the netherlands like that 😂
Brandon Meerwijk It is, it reaches everyone reaches 200+ feet at the top of the lift hill before the first inversion.
How to you get to go to so much theme parks
I go to pittsburgh alot! I’ll try this!
No more whistle before the lift hill?

Looks amazing.
Opened in the middle of July and was only operating maybe a couple days a week 🤔
And there is now 8 inversions
There is no cobra roll or roll over. It is a banana roll and a sea serpent roll
Which one is called banana roll? ☺
The 2nd and 3rd inversions
No it's not, it's a hamburger roll with a roll in the hay with a roll tide with a tuck and roll and a movie role and also a roll over and play dead.
That lift hill takes forever
Do you get to pick your own row on this ride?

What did you use a go pro? If so what strap?
Does this ride have assigned seating or can you pick your own seat?
Pick your own!
Yeah, you pick your own spot. Of course the first row has a longer line.
Don't worry guys, that lift hill is going as fast as it can go. It's the lift hill that could!
I road it on tuesday with my bad leg and it lived. It was amazing course i had the song stuck in my head tho lol,
That’s gotta be one of the loudest lift hills to date.
Arrow loopers or twisted timbers
Those too. Meanwhile, those SLC’s, which are ironically one of the more uncomfortable coaster models, have some of the quietest.
Quieter than Raptor's lift.
I’m not the only one who heard “Renegade” by Styx on a coaster video, am I?
This proves you don’t need a big area for a good ride
Hey James on a scale 1-10 how scary is this ride
