Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Mike Portnoy himself endorsed this? Check his Facebook page.
I think you sounded more like Mike Mangini because of the snare drum
Manginis kit kind-of sounds terrible. Portnoys kit always sounded so nice a tight.
The hardest part was to get the snare sounding like Portnoy's on the budget. Can't wait to do it by busting the bank!
Portnoy Signature Hammered Steel Costs $800AUD. The Bubinga Costs $1099AUD
Didn’t his snare on “Black Clouds and Silver Linings” sound similar to this?
It sounds like a bad version of BC&SL.
Mad respect for anyone that can pull that song off! I'm a huge fan!!!!😊❤
As a guitar player my wallet appreciates my choice of instrument
Amir Hossein Ghasemi eh really false statement. I play both instruments and while I may buy some accessories for my drum set here and there, I don’t really change much about it ever. But I just can’t stop buying guitars
@@shooteroffuture I spent £1,800 on my Les Paul and that would be a REALLY nice drum kit.
@@DavidOakesMusic thats the price of a Nice dw kit wthout cymbals or hardware xD
Same. I'm also a guitar player but I only watch theese for fun. I know a little drumming, and the only time I use drums is at stores, or use my brothers kit. I was expecting their budget to be 1500. I guess I was wrong.
@@MrJoeymagot ....and that's the price of a Les Paul with no amp, pedals, or cables....
I'd love to see a part 2. Where you bust the bank lmao
We will definitely revisit Portnoy for you!
That would just be buying his setup
@@colinbentham6946 yay! Mwah

LoL
Holy. Shit. I never expected the entire song hahaha that's amazing!
Thanks dude! I now can never listen to that song again haha
first things first. You’re gonna need two hello kitty drum sets.
That second bass drum should've been mounted as a gong drum...just because.
Not only a great video but AWESOME cover! As one of the few who have dared to walk the “Rite of Passage” of learning TDOE i think it sounds amazing!
Glad to see Dreams getting some love. Absolutely magical cymbals tbh
Someone give this guy a raise
Or therapy....?
@@philbrown8181 I'm hoping for both 👍
This was absolutely awesome! Love that the video was longer than normal. Collin you’re playing was phenomenal
Thank you so much Jonne!!
Questlove
Carter Beauford
Stewart Copeland
Brad Wilk
Chad Smith
Danny Carey
Keep watching AnAlias!!
And Jon Theodore please! Probably from Deloused in the Comatorium or Alphawaves
+1 for Carter Beauford!
Loved the sound of that Natal kick, the Zildjian stack was nice as well, gonna have to get one of those!
Really enjoyed that. Great play through of a great song!
I love the ideas, it would be cool to see with and without a budget, see how much it changes between the kits
The song at 21:27 was Paradigm Shift by Liquid Tension experiment
Spot on Tabby!
I was going to guess a slipknot one.
Amazing playthrough
Best yet Colin, smashed it! 💪 That Hello Kitty kit performance was fantastic too 😂
Thanks Dan! Hopefully we'll so more on the Kitty Kit in the future haha
Thank you for including the music this time 👍🏻
Quality work keep it up
Made such a difference! Pretty sure the playthrough wouldn't make any sense otherwise haha
very very very well done. That sounded really good together. I didn't expect it to all work. now, as someone else said, do a by busting with Portnoy
We didn't either Bran! We'll definitely be back with Portnoy in the future!
I never listened to Dream Theater but I just realized that Between the Buried and Me got their inspiration from these guy's. For a second that's who I thought I was listening to. Great job bro
This was so cooll. And you killed it man
Portnoy and the boys reunite again! Liquid Tension Experiment 3 is coming! WOOHOO!
Great job guys.
Quite well executed, my commendation.
Really really nice playing man!
Thanks dude!!
Josh Eppard from Coheed. He's a fantastic drummer and his kit always sounds so so good
Easiest way to sound like portnoy. RLKK RLKK or RLRLKK RLRLKK
I know!! Well after all, this is his style you know. I always said to myself that his solos are getting less and less original, that's all he does in them...
He is a bit of a one trick pony but I wouldn't be where I am today with his influence 👍
@@colinbentham6946 Yeah for sure. He's still an absolute killer.
@@colinbentham6946 I went to Dads once and he was listening to a CD id never heard before but I immediately recognised MPs 5 fills and assumed it was the Neal Morse album he was on. Hehe. Not sure if its a good or bad thing...
I didn't know you did sounds like drum edition.... veryyyyy amazing
Absolutely insane playing- so tight. I absolutely adore these videos thanks so muh
Thanks so much Eddy! I had so much fun haha
Genuinely impressed with the playing here solid effort
Nice playing!
Ah yeaaaaa. Dont forget. Recording the snare is almost everything. Getting that engineered sound MP’s techs have developed with him over the years is rock perfection! So hard to simulate even if you’re trying to break the bank.
But yea. No Tama kit? Now you have to do a break the bank version for fun lol.
That playthrough was insane.... Great work
Thanks Jared!!
@@colinbentham6946 you're welcome!
“But it looks like signature Porno stacks”
Well RUclips translate, you officially fail at British lol...
Mike Porntoy
WhoDarestheMAN gamer its English you uncultured filth
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer There's no such thing as American language - It's English...Same the British - they also speak English.
Drum MonkeyStuff UK Thank you.
That was some solid drumming there!
Do a sound like The Rev!
Great job man 😉🤘😊
Nice playing
Nice one Colon.
Can y’all do by busting the bank🤩🤩
Amazing playing! Rig sounds great (other than snare, imo..)
funkymystic i agree the snare sounds like ass but everything else is great. Awesome drumming as well
the snare was fine, idk what you're talking about
That's totally cool!
Fair play Colin
I would love for that set to be an actual shell pack that you can purchase all together.
That ride fits in so well
I've never heard of bliss cymbals but they sound really good
They are dream cymbals. The series is bliss
The mounting of the pedal is just funny :D
In future I will also purchase a tiny little second BD instead of a Tomholder Tripod, makes more sense ;)
Nice video guys! Can you guys do a video Sound Like Gavin Harrison ?
Is that Paradigm Shift by LTE are the end? great video as always guys!
Didn't know andertones had a RUclips drum department. Nice.
Having only just seen this episode, and seeing how cool the 22" & 18" bass drums look together it got me thinking that doing an episode on Mike Mangini or Terry Bozzio would be interesting if you were up for it?
Nobody comment drumming. It's almost perfect
The slightly crooked mount of the double pedal is distracting me from enjoying this too much ._.
Awesome job on dance of eternity, but you don't have the kick pedal on the little bass drum
nailed!
SUPERB
His liquid tension experiment kit would have been a good reference and with a double pedal
I think you got very close for the price. Very instructive. Can we get a sound like Larry Mullen Jr?
They spend 900 putting 2 kits together, why not just get a 7 piece tama superstar classic for that (it is actually less than that here in the US).
They can only use what they have in stock (similar rules to the Guitar version)
awesome job. Not let's get 72-74 Bill Bruford on!
Aaaah excellent mate, well played. I was smiling throughout the performance. It's a really difficult song to play, and the slipping kick pedal was making me cringe.
Didn't even know the channel existed! Sorry I'm so late!
Great vid! I would like to hear Sound like Brooks wackerman, but by busting the bank. His recent avenged sevenfold work is insane
Yeah Paradigm Shift on hello kitty!
the bliss sounds great, but the Natal doesn't quite convince me. For the cymbals I'd have chosen the XSR from Sabian, they are killer and probably the closest to the AAX.
I have xsr cymbols
very bad sounds xsr cymbals sabian 😞
paiste better than sabian ! 😞
FLAWLESS PLAYTHROUGH!
Can’t wait for busting the bank!!!
Damn you’re good.
Can y’all do brooks wackerman😭
Very cool! My only nit Is that the snare was mic'd a bit hot and drowned out the toms.
Why didn't you use two Tama Imperialstars kits? Especially if your considering Pearl Roadshow or Export.
How did you avoid youtube´s copyright??
How come you guys didn't do the tuning of the drums section like you do on all the other drum vids?
What about sounding like Mike Mangini. Since we are on the topic of dream theater. Mike Mangini is amazing!
You guys should do “Sound like Tim “Herb” Alexander Without Busting the Bank”
Could you do sound like Ben Johnston from Biffy Clyro?
- UFFF sound not even close... but the drummer is great ;) Great work man!
Sounds decent especially with stock heads.
Do a sounds like Dan Searle from architects
Would really much like to see Sound Like Christoph Schneider - Rammstein. Would be rad!!
Give him a raise
Can you do one for The Rev? I love his sound but can't spend 10,000 on a massive drumset with collectors drums.
Jesse Williams “Budget” Rev, I would say a PDP Concept Drumset, Sabian XSR Cymbals and Zildjian S Cymbals, DW 3000 hardware.
wicked!!!!!!! makes me expect a Danny Carey episode :) :) plz :) :)
are your rushing or dragging?
Could you make sound like the rev :)
I love James Labrie
26 dislikes...!!!! Whyy guysss..whats the fault in this...this is awesome
Please do a "Meet Ray Luzier" like you did with Chris Coleman, or at least sound like Ray Luzier
I can't say for sure because it was a long time ago, but I do seem to remember, either on a commentary track or some other interview thing, someone talking about John having plexi shields put around his stack to spare it from Mike's flying spittle. I also remember someone mentioning that they called him "the camel" because of his penchant for spitting on stage.
Amazing playing as usual. Does Colin have his own channel or website?
But, do you not attach the bass drum pedal in these videos to preserve stock? It sends my OCD into hyperdrive each time I see the pedal angles in this series.
Hey Osman! Thanks for the kind comments. I don't do anything else on RUclips but you can follow me on Instagram @colindrummer!
The bass drum pedal is actually attached but we generally use a cloth to preserve the hoop. I also kick outwards quite a bit when I play with my right foot so it can make it go a little bit wonky haha
yeeeeeeaahhh dude
The stack sounds a bit off to me. Otherwise good jobs!!.
Watching that bass drum slide away
Whoa, really close
Paradigm shift - yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah! :)
the rev please
Mike Portnoy Using Tama Drum Kit & Octoban,Sabian Cymbal,Remo Drum Head,Promark Sticks
Gavin Harrison. I'd like to see if you can get the way his drum sound on a budget. His drums sound musical. Plus it'll give Colin a headache.
And the last song is Paradigm Shift by LTE.
Spot on Juan! I did a groove interpretation of the Sound of Muzak back when I had hair. You can check it here:
