- Just a little fun we had during a test flight after the actual "work" was done.
No Afghanis were harmed in the making of this video.

what I like is the extraterrestial feeling, the not knowing the scale of what you're looking at, because you're used to seeing something like trees or something to get a sense of the scale of the landscape you're observing,
here, other than the farms and roads and buildings you see here and there,
there's really nothing that can tell you how big what you're looking at actually is

I fly an apache in virtual reality with the whole stick/collective and pedals. It will NEVER be the same as real life BUT I'm just a wee bit closer to the experience. Thanks for your service tons of love from all of us here.

@@xymoriintus To flex. Some virtual simulator gamers always think they're hotshots and can do the real thing. I play sim games, but I'm fully aware it isn't even close to the real thing, nor could I do it just because I did it in a game.

Amazing, thanks for the upload! Always see external footage of these machines so finally this gives an idea of what its like inside, the noise-level etc. The canopy can stop assualt rifle rounds like AK47? Flying so low puts the helo within range of idiots with those kinda weapons. But then again an Apache screaming along at low level has come and gone before they even register it.

I don't ever recall seeing a single ship mission (with green air) when I was there (June2011-April2012), I always saw a second 64 or a Kiowa wingman. Awesome footage though!
This was a rare day flight for us after a maintenance test flight, which is why we’re single ship.

Damn! 10 mins feels way longer than I remember it being. Imagine how deadly an AH64 could be when on station with guns hot for this same amount of time.
This was probably a test flight. If they’d have actually been called, the gun would jam, the targeting system would break or they’d have to RTB because something overheated. Awesome hardware.... when it works! Program the computer to do it because the US Army thinks it’s too much of a liability to let pilots do it! DAPS RULE!

Beautiful! What part of the service were you in when this was filmed? Army, navy, airforce? Ive no clue about whats in Afghanistan, only recently curious from listening to jocko hearing him list "force dispositions" and real ppls perspectives rather than statistics
I've always thought helis were cooler than jets. I mean sure jets can go crazy fast and stuff but helicopters are so much more technical and I guess I like that about them
Ive broke it down to it makes sense how planes fly, you can get lift if you just stick your hand out a car window. Helicopters are straight witchcraft.
@@mp40submachinegun81 honestly they're fairly simple, imagine an aircraft that doesn't have fixed wings to create lift but rather rotating ones over head. that's all a helicoper is, ultimately. Look up autogyros, they're rotor craft that use an unpowered overhead rotor as it's main airfoil to create lift. It's odd, but the science behind it is the same as a fixed wing aircraft.

@@CelicaDan I think he means its more technical or takes more skill to fly Military grade Helicopters vs fighter jets, especially attack helicopters for military they are jet powered engine much higher performance, and inside the cockpit use all the same instruments Flir Laser ect. that fighter jets use, even the AGMs jets fire for ground targets now were originally only designed for the Apache, the army calls hellfire's .
I love that rotary sound, music to me my ears.
Absolutely amazing. This video no longer makes me want to fly fixed wing and do rotary instead. I love how all the detail is so close unlike a plane.

is it common to keep the TADS pointed away from the flight path vector? I'm assuming this is done so you don't damage it if you collide with something mid air? seems like this is only for fast speed low alt flying.
I'm in the WOFT program currently and videos like these just make me itchy to fly. Any tips you have about the process, James, would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like the vibrations will tire you in minutes. Rode in a UH-60 many times and they SEEM so much smoother. I bet the pilots are tired after a long stint in this war bird.
The guys on the ground must be conflicted about this since its probably a cool sight but its the invaders

Quick story about a blatant and really cheesy ripoff of video by others. The original was shot in Pakistan or India. Checked out owner's channel, he's legit. Days later, a link to it appears on some other channel. I take a quick look at that channel's host; a pale Slavic dude. Looked at the video he'd taken..... he'd taken his phone and recorded the video while it played back on another phone. You can see glare, (real) lens flares, almost the sun itself reflecting off playback phone's glass.
Some will do anything just to see if they can get away with it.... I commented appropriately, reply was "not steal", next day comments disabled.

Excuse my ignorance but what if a group of soldiers do fire some rocket against the apache? I mean flying that low... Is there any counter/flare deflect system to avoid getting hit?
