One of the best investments I made for DCS were the Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs. Sure they don't have the Apache specific buttons, like FCR, TSD, etc, but the rest of the bezel buttons make employing the helicopter as a weapon system much easier, and they can be used for many different aircraft. I use them in MSFS as well for things like lighting, and other switches not found on my Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo.
I got the winwing ones, which are similar in price to the thrustmaster ones (if you just buy the frame and not the screen). I fly in vr, so didn't need the screen. They're excellent and the extra buttons between the main grey buttons gives you so much flexibility.
I haven’t flown helicopters irl or dcs. But I gotta say, the Apache looks like the best multicrew system for DCS. There’s a lot of need for continuous teamwork and some really cool options and systems for both crew to operate. Thanks for sharing the DCS wealth of knowledge! You instruct in a way that having never used the craft, one can understand what it’s trying to do as well as what you are intending to do with an imperfect system. And you make it look easy.
It's great, but in multicrew it can desync a lot. You will have to have the CPG load the aircraft and turn on their FCR, then the pilot will have to reload it to be able to have the FCR also. If not it will say the FCR is not installed.
It does, but the FCR is still not implemented fully for multicrew. For instance when the pilot uses the arrow buttons to rotate the radar, it's not synced to the CPG. Right now FCR is unusable in multicrew in my opinion. @@thelespauldude3283
Thanks again Casmo for all the tutorial videos and hard work that goes into this channel. This man truly taught alot of us the joy of Rotary aircraft in DCS.
Thanks for posting this as well as elaborating on the tactics and the significance too. Was having some trouble with controls so I've been using your vids as a kind of cheat sheet. Ngl, I mentioned this to Schoolio, but the reality really is sobering and wipes clean the whole romance of the 114L that was always portrayed as an infallible weapons system in older games like DI's Apache Longbow and Jane's Longbow Anthology. I'm still gonna have a 114L slam into a Tunguska and when it does I'm gonna rejoice lol.
Great stuff! I’m going flying now. You do make it easier to understand. I’m still at the “hover - transition - (wreck) stage!” I can get it in the air and fly it, it’s the “hover and/or land” part that’s killing me! Either way it’s getting easier every sortie. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the tutorial. Really good explanation of the FCR. Yesterday I finaly got time to check the radar on ah64. It makes ka50 and mi24 obsolete as the hunter killer capabilities.
I see, C SCP may be really handy when setting up a PHS ACQ while scanning. I guess it would spare the headache when the tactical situation is heating up all around.
I had no idea that the FCR tracked head movement until you showed us! 😮 I'm hoping the next patch fixes the FCR teething problems like scan originating from the nose of the aircraft and elevation issues.
I could be wrong but I think when C-SCOPE is implemented, it won’t just track your head, but will also overlay the targets it picks up on your IHADSS so you can simply look around the battlefield and see where everything is.
I've got a new computer coming and I can't wait to fly the AH-64 with it. My current computer is about 10 years old now, so it's been struggling with the detail of the Apache and any decent sized mission. It's going to be great seeing the game in all of its beauty.
Thanks for this video. I've been using FCR and the radar hellfires since they came out. Great explanations that you've given. Hoping that the FCR system will get updates, like the ability to zoom in on the scan, and it would be great if it someday will designate friendly and enemy units.
Another reason not to use continuous scan is I believe you can't slew the FCR while scanning is active. Also, those back pain guys really know their audience!
great video. i dont know if you already have something planned, but i hope you get a chance to put out a data link tutorial too and how to send all the reports using the fcr. thanks for your content
I didn't know the part with the acquisition source , I have been annoyed by the fact that my FCR sometimes ends up pointing to the sides and it might have been due to that ACQ xD tyvm for the video casmo 👍👍
Great vid as always. I've noticed that the Lima missiles are more accurate and predictable when using the FCR for their data instead of the TADS. I'm greatly looking forward to being able to link the TADS to the FCR too, cause I'm trying to find workflows to single seat thx Apache as a CPG (no friends and George is too clunky to use for my liking). For now the only way to get the TADS onto the FCR target is to plot the NTS as a target point, switch sight and select the target as AQU
