Still one of the best and well presented ITB powered mx5s that I have seen. Your build is an inspiration to all us fellow mx5 owners seeking that extra thrill from driving our cars. Thank you Guinn!
As a NB owner I totally agree. I’m planning big cams, itbs and a couple of other stuff in order to get that kind of sound on the intake. I know that on a 1.6 means losing power on the low rpms, but listen at that...
Thanks man, I was waiting for this video, you promised and you delivered!! I truly adore that NB!! I hope one day I can do a similar build. Too me, this is the perfect example of what a miata can/should be. Used to own an NB, I sold it and bought an S2000 but still miss it to this day.
Lol half way through the video i just reaslized the track hes on is the one haggard garage use to drift at awhile back then they stopped doing drift events there
I have a 1.6 91' NA shortnose and would like to build engine with ITBs, can someone tell me what parts do I need (forged rods and pistons, preformance cams?, preformance valve springs and lifters?, megasquirt or vems?, any cranckshaft upgrades?) Looking to make around 150 to 200 hp.. And also how much could i make with itbs and aftermarket ecu with stock internals...?
If you lose oil pressure for more than 1 second while hammering on the car the engine is going to be toast anyways. I don't like adding gauges unless I absolutely need to as they clutter up the interior IMO. Once this setup dies I am probably going to Honda power anyways.
Fucking finally, someone who knows how to use a steering wheel properly with BOTH HANDS. lol I know where that is in CT. I see you went to Limerock. Nice car, the thing sounds nasty. Also spotted an mr2 in there. You don't see those every day.
nuts have been busted watchin this but quick question i have an 02 SE and i was wondering if i could run a mild cam and get that lopey idle on a stock ecu without blowing it up? im sure cams, intake manifold, and cai will make it run too lean causing detonation but what about just cams? I dont make enough money yet to go all out and megasquirt and all that fun stuff yet.
The car has that lope because the cams are more aggressive and induce overlap. A mild cam wouldn't produce that. Your 02 has VVT and can actually be tuned to reduce that overlap improving idle and helping low end power. If you go with aggressive cams you need to get adjustable cam gears and need to tune the setup to work right otherwise it's just going to run like crap and not really see any real power improvements. Also, the car makes 185 whp which is like ~220 at the crank and weighs 2200 lbs.
Awesome man thanks so much for the reply now what size cams are they and are they dailyable? And you say tune do you mean a standalone or stock ecu? Cause if so i had no idea you could tune a stock vvt.
What brand is this system, where you got it and how much it cost?? I’ve always been intrigued about doing this to mine, since everyone else’s either turboed, supercharged or v8 swapped them.
At first glance it seemed to me like 14x7 RPF1's... But I thought that size didn't clear non NA6 brakes! I love those wheels! But everyone says 15 inch wheels feel better in a Miata... Do you think it is that noticeable?
These were really awesome wheels when I had them on my 94 M Edition that I daily'ed years ago. The savings in unsprung weight are very noticeable when putting these on the NB. The only problem now is that no one makes tires for 14's anymore. So 15's would probably be the way to go.
No mods other than dremeling my valve reliefs larger to clear the valves with a .10" head shave for 12.5:1 compression. The motor has been holding up with rev limter set to 7800 RPM for over 6000 miles now. I also have a super miata crank pulley and damper which helped smooth out the harmonics.
If K-Swaps were available when I built this 8 years ago I would have went that route. It may be hard to tell much I like it in the video, but it's not that bad ;)

This is how videos should be. No music. Just the sound of the engine and car.
Such a clean, and still pure example of what a miata should be. Also, this guy drives the shit out of it and I love it!
🙌🙌🙌
me see ITB. me like. me simple being.
The throttle snappiness is of amazeballs levels. Revs super high too. Your skillz are mad dude
Dude. This MX5 is an inspiration to what I want mine to be!
HALF A CAR LENGTH, MANN!? That was great!
lol
#1 best mod to a stock miata.
Can it be safely daily driven? What about the air filter?
only in the rain because the dust sticks to the ground, otherwise the engine won't live very long
@@vasiliansotirov6976 lol bullshit
@@mohammedsalimahmed5230 he has a filter on it
2:42 - so good.
Itbs sound so nuts! Love it!
Quinn when I think about getting other car than a Miata I come to see yours to keep me motivated, thank you my dude, your car is my goal one day!
Thank you! 🙌🙌
every time you hit limiter i had to change underwear.
10/10 would recommend to a friend
Greyhamism agreed. I need to do some laundry.
Great sound, killer driving, non stop fun!
This amazing car is what brought me to ur channel, love this thing
I love this. I can just imagine myself in the seat driving. This is all I want. Awesome stuff!
Absolutely love the vid, wish I lived closer, awesome track
The perfect miata.
Keep on hoonin' my dude. This was really fun to watch.

Oh, that engine bay is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Thank you!
@@TheSlipAngle You are very welcome. I am not normally a big fan of Miatas, I admit, but I do respect a well built one :)
Lol @ 3:13 ap1 over steer problems 😂 respect though that guy was handling it pretty well. Love the Miata btw!
Sweeet. Nice driving per usual brotha be safe.
P.s You need a k series in your collection!
Killer driving man as always
mateeee you need to get yourself a drift car, something not so drop dead gorgeous and precious. Because DAMN you've got good car control!
I watched. I gave the thumbs up. I added to Favourites.
"my nigga"
thanks for this. amazing end to a good day
Sounds soooooo good it hurts!
ITBs and loose as hell. you sure thats not an ae86 in disguise?
Keiichi Tsuchiya has been my driving role model since day one. This car is to me what his ae86 is to him :)
absolutely love this build!
Inspiration man, awesome car 😊
1:26 This is it right here
Nice:) . Interesting camera placement, I will have to try that with my next RX8 video.
This is what dreams are made off !!! 😀👍🏼👌🏽
Thank you!
ITBs on a miata can't go wrong, IMO better than a cheap turbo kit.
But can it be daily'd? What about air filter?
Lol half way through the video i just reaslized the track hes on is the one haggard garage use to drift at awhile back then they stopped doing drift events there
What color green is your valve cover I quite like it... also the sounds are phenomenal on this little monster.

Those slides bro!
Man that sounds so fucking good.
Super fan ! love it
i really want to make my own itb mx5
Oh my ITB!
This has confirmed my ITB vs FI argument in my head. ITB all the way.
Such a lot of nice work, and no real oil pressure gauge/warning light??
If you lose oil pressure for more than 1 second while hammering on the car the engine is going to be toast anyways. I don't like adding gauges unless I absolutely need to as they clutter up the interior IMO. Once this setup dies I am probably going to Honda power anyways.
@@TheSlipAngle You do not need extra gauge, only upgrade your oem fake unit with vdo sender and low pressure warning light...
Great content!
How much litre fuel does a ITB setup with about 200HP consume?
0:20 is that a garden hose?
They are fiber reinforced PVC hoses. These stand up better to the heat than the clear hose that typically comes with catch can kits.
Fucking finally, someone who knows how to use a steering wheel properly with BOTH HANDS. lol I know where that is in CT. I see you went to Limerock. Nice car, the thing sounds nasty. Also spotted an mr2 in there. You don't see those every day.
What would I need to shell out should I find a clean slate NB in my driveway one day and I want to bring it to this state?
I’m gonna guess at least $15,000
nah they are very cheap in the UK, you can get an OK one for 1000 gbp excluding import tax
What differential are you running ?
How much it cost a built like that at thé performance shop ? Im so interested thanks
I did the build myself so I couldn't tell you.
nuts have been busted watchin this but quick question i have an 02 SE and i was wondering if i could run a mild cam and get that lopey idle on a stock ecu without blowing it up? im sure cams, intake manifold, and cai will make it run too lean causing detonation but what about just cams? btw this looks fast as hell for 172hp i get the light weight thing but damn!

TWM now known at Borla Induction. I am not sure what it costs now. I bought mine back in 2009.
It took me a second to realize not every nb is 5 speed like mine
what tail lights are those?
Garage Vary
Did you use tps as load axis for the itb's?
Yes I did.
I want one!!
Whats the name of that trunk/spoiler?
Autokonexion V2 Trunk
I like this video, do the same for your other cars pls !
what exhaust setup is this?
Maruha VP Header, RB resonated Midpipe and a Jet's N1 Integral Kobe axleback
How much whp with the itb setup?
In the latest build, it made 185 whp and 134 lb/ft on a DynoJet
What seat is that?
Lotus Elise Sport 160
@@TheSlipAngle many thanks
What are the specs of the RPF1's?
14x7 +19. They only weigh 8.4 lbs each. I still own them too lol.

Too bad the 15x7 are ugly... And the 15x8 don't fit a NA without rolled fenders...
I think I will end up with 14x7 anyway lol
I'll sell you mine if you are looking for a set.
Exhaust??
Maruha VP Race Header, Racing Beat Resonated Mid-pipe, Jet's N1 Integral Kobe Axleback
🤘
I think it's better for me to get some handkerchiefs before launching this video 😅
Do you have any measurements like 0-60 or 50-110mph?
Sorry for my bad english!
Best miata on YT!
No instrumented measurements, but I might have something in store for this year ;)
Garage Quinn Motors Oh yeaaah!
Cool man!
Car should be named Lil Ripper!
sounds like VTEC BRO
What's been done to the bottom end, and what's the longevity like at 8krpm?
No mods other than dremeling my valve reliefs larger to clear the valves with a .10" head shave for 12.5:1 compression. The motor has been holding up with rev limter set to 7800 RPM for over 6000 miles now. I also have a super miata crank pulley and damper which helped smooth out the harmonics.
This is madness! No, this is MIATA! ...Cringe*
Fucking sick , would trade my 400 hp turbo miata for a miata like this one anytime ! keep redline this bitch and have fun !
Great car, just not liking what you did to the tail lights
And most people don't either. Good thing it is my car and not theirs ;)
Garagequine was a better name.
Felt bad for the s2000 guy
😂😂
Love the car but those tail lights are so ugly
Bro don't hate on my Garage Vary tails and their crappy fitment :)
Love me some Garage Vary tail lights!!
Hard disagree
No roll cage, No beuno
The ITBs sound amazing though
"half a car length between you and the S2k?.....I kept catching upto him".......get out of my way!!!
Amazing old school sound!!!But not for a daily as you can have much more powerful n/a swaps that cost less and burn less fuel
Smiles per gallon is worth it.
If K-Swaps were available when I built this 8 years ago I would have went that route. It may be hard to tell much I like it in the video, but it's not that bad ;)
