The super mario movie back in the day was good. Much better than the newer one. The fuck you talking about. Benny was just pissed off about being outed as the scumbag he is early into the movie. ^That's a better comment, unlike your shit one. You could learn from me.
@woolardjw I don't get sloppy. I think some of the set-ups are contrived (I suppose they would have to be, filming in Grand Central, working with the given lay-out). I'm not a particular fan of De Palma's penchant for long, complex tracking shots. I think they tend to draw unnecessary attention to the filmmaking, breaking the fourth wall. And he sometimes "cheats", artificially using the intense, singular focus on the tracked subject to manufacture tension -- antagonists and other threats suddenly appear into view but would have been visible in real life the whole time (what, nobody waiting the train noticed Benny Blanco from the Bronx running nearly side-by-side with Carlito the length of the train...? Carlito didn't see the suspicious dude right beside him?). So, again, a contrivance. But to think the scene all the way through, block that all out on location using the site's levels and turns and hides, to so effectively use the location's sight lines and the tracking POV to put the viewer right in the action and build tension. I don't see the sloppy... (As an aside here, De Palma's absolute reverence for Hitchcock is on full display in this scene, as it is in the very similar train station scene in The Untouchables...My pure guess is that De Palma was inspired by Hitchcock's technical prowess pulling off precisely-choreographed scenes like the UN murder in North By Northwest.)
The chat with the uniformed guys is quite interesting. "I'm going to the Bronx" he says and the guy answers "To the right, shoot down the alley and up the stairs". Then he encounters Benny Blanco from You Know Where, who shoots down the alley and Carlito goes indeed up the stairs.
in a way, yeah. Godfather is basically a Greek tragedy without the singing, in that the family can never escape its destiny, only avoid it. Carlito never escapes what he's set up for himself with Benny Blanco even if he escapes his fatal flaw of being loyal to Kleinfield. but I think more of the audience was rooting for Carlito to actually make that train and leave his life behind.
Unfortunately might have been as smart decision because if pechanga can turn on Carlito he'll definitely turn on Benny Blanco from the Bronx So why not get rid of both. Something here, the way he runs trough the people almost unnoticed, makes me think De Palma wanted to be clear Carlito was just a little ex-gangster, not a top name
Why does DePalma have this fascination with having some giant fat guy in a lot of his movies. You got this movie, Scarface had some big guys and that movie he did with Captain Lou Albano. Whatever that was called, Albano was a huge guy.
If you have spent time around traditional Italian neighborhoods with any kind of organized crime presence, there's always a giant fat associate. Usually related by blood to someone with clout, and therefore kept around despite having limited utility.
I always had the impression this was a late '70s movie. However, there are '90s era security cameras all over the place. Also, that model Beretta looks to be a 92 model and those were not around much in the '70s, if at all.
probably couldn't do much about the sec cams, but a Colt .45 was certainly in the prop dept and timeless. Naturally, there would have to be a magazine change with the Model 1911A1 (as Carlito discovered in the bathroom scene), but a Browning General Purpose 1935 HiPower would handle that. and of course, Carlito could have just grabbed the next train and caught up with them later in FL somehow rather than draw heat to the mother of his child.
@@stevemill8959 I had to look it up, wondering if Rockafellar's law came into effect (its mentioned in the prequel movie)...this movie is based on a novel that came out in 1975.

It's probably the dumbest of dumb lucks that the fat guy happens to stroll by right as Carlito's slipping past the others on the escalator. In the end though, Carlito was done in by his own hubris and inability to read the room properly.
