    With a few everyday materials, Meghan shows how she makes a reusable and affordable box that makes delivering her cakes much easier and safer. This is also a great way to create a makeshift refrigerator when your regular fridge is either too full or too small. With a little dry ice this box can keep your cake chilled for an entire day. (Video is 3:30 min)
    Dry Ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide. It is used primarily as a cooling agent. Its advantages include lower temperature than that of water ice and not leaving any residue. It is useful for preserving frozen foods, ice cream, etc., where mechanical cooling is unavailable. Do not handle with bare hands, must use gloves or tongs.

    I made this box to deliver my nieces wedding cake. I had to travel 1 and a half hours with the cake. This box was a lifesaver!!! The cake arrived in perfect condition! Thank you so much for this video.

      Barbara Greenwell I had a very similar situation. I had to travel just over 2 hours with my nieces Wedding Cake in August Heat. I did have dry ice inside the box. It arrived in perfect condition. Unfortunately they were having the reception at a restaurant who seemed incapable of following simple instructions. They took the cake out of the box and put it on a shelf in a walk in cooler that had opened buckets filled with peeled potatoes and water. By time they put the cake and desserts out at 11:30 ( they were supposed to go out right after dinner) the cake was basically ruined. All the definition in the piping had run. What a waste of time. 😡

  • @CaljavaInt
    @CaljavaInt  12 лет назад +9

    Thanks for watching! You can exclude the dry ice if you would like. It is only necessary if the fillings of the cake need to remain refrigerated.
    You can continue to reuse the box if you would like. Normally you would not leave it with the customer, because ideally there would be no cake left over to take home. Thanks!

    dry ice is commonly used in portable ice cream cart to keep ice cream stay frozen for a long time. it is better for rolled fondant cakes because there is no condensation being produced as reach in refrigerator would. Also perfect for those who does not have refrigerator or long distance during hot humid summer seasons delivery system.

      Valerie Townsend I agree. I was gonna ask, btw, how come that dry ice is just put without some sort of guard so it does not touches the cake. thanks for the tip sandwich bags!!

    • @rutgenesis
      @rutgenesis 9 лет назад

      I know dry ice is not toxic, the problem is if you touch it bare hands for a few seconds it can burn your skin. That is why the sandwich bag idea is brilliant so no accidental burns. I dont kow what would happen if it touches the fondant.

    I just LOVED this idea. I have a few questions. I will be traveling from Nevada to California for about 5-6 hour drive on a Friday and delivered that following Sat afternoon. The cake will be buttercream/fondant covered but will have Bavarian cream filling. Will this hold up for the traveling and next day delivery if I just get a bigger box for the dry ice? I'm concerned about the filling which is a commercial product. Thanks for any advice on this.

    If you would like a less labor intensive option, perhaps you would like to discontinue the endless purchase of disposable cardboard boxes. Transportation is no longer a nail biting experience. The #cakesafe allows you to assemble your tiered cakes in your own shop or kitchen without the time pressure of being at the venue, and having little recourse if something “goes wrong”. When there's a cake failure during transport, there is no Plan B. Preventing just one disaster will make your purchase completely worthwhile!
    Using the #cakesafe allows you to save a tremendous amount of time and labor cost by completing all the final touches on the cake in-house, because there is no need to assemble your cake on site. The #cakesafe leaves the venue with you; no parts to retrieve later. Its design helps keep your cake at a stable temperature because the sides are made of a twin wall polycarbonate plastic. This is the same material used for greenhouse roofs and it is designed to offer excellent insulation quality. The box is not airtight but it does help retain your cake's temperature, limit condensation, and protect the cake from heat and humidity. So, is your #cakesafe ?

      Veronique Cataldo I used this box and was so excited until my brother delivered the cake and it dumped over inside the box!!! I had proper dowels into each layer of a 3 tier cake and a dowel that went through the center of the entire cake! You cannot pick this cake box up with a 30lb. cake inside of it as she is showing! It will buckle. I added two sheets of cardboard in the box at the bottom and they were anchored to the other box piece so their is a design flaw. I think maybe if you put a dowel through the box and through the whole cake and had someone hold the end of the dowel lightly that was sticking out of the top it might keep it from being able to topple over or the cake board needs to be strapped down to the box!!!

    Unless you stick your head in the encased dry ice and inhale the vapors, yes you might die from it. But you are transporting the item boxed up in the rear part of your vehicle. Relative to this is the worst effect of the carbon monoxide undetectable and lethal to the car's occupants. You will die from pure Oxygen as well. I know because I am an RN who loves to bake. I use dry ice in my delivery and I'm still alive.

  • @vgskdgccrn55
    @vgskdgccrn55 12 лет назад
