Star wars jedi survivor is a next gen game that was built solely for the new consoles, but runs like shit on those consoles and pc, and yet a decent port is coming to the ps4 severally years old. If there's anything, this shows the level of optimization developers can put to make games run on much less powerful hardware, and still feel okay. It doesn't stop them from going all the way to make what they want for more powerful consoles.

On the other hand, Series S and Steam Deck are quite complementary. If a game can run on Series S at 1080p, Digital Foundry found that it’s likely to run on Deck at 800p at similar settings. Of course not all games follow this rule, but it gives hope that maybe Deck could run GTA6 once it comes to PC

GTA V was made with the PS3 and Xbox 360 in mind and while it does show in certain ways how limited they were, eventually they stopped supporting those platforms, moved on to the next generation and look at where the game is now. On that front, i wouldn't worry too much about it.
Idk if anyone remembers the GTA V launch, but they thought about that launch to a tee. It released on PS3 and Xbox 360, and a year later it has it's 2nd release on PS4 and Xbox One. Mmmm gta 6 was in development well before the series S came into the question. I reckon rockstar were making the game with hardware more in line with what they thought the next Xbox and PlayStation were going to use. And then Xbox threw a spammer in the works and now they are probably scaling down the series S version heavily just to have a game ship out in a somewhat working order.
I kinda think they need to make an inferior game for an inferior console at an inferior price. Hear me out. Less graphical fidelity with less content than the better version(xbox series x pro or whatever) but at a lower price, say 30 or 40 instead of 60 or 70. I think it would be a killer marketing idea because it allows those with the lower end consoles to still buy and enjoy the game, albeit not at its full potential, thereby garnering an interest in purchasing the higher end console and game to "unlock" the better graphics and more content. Its good for everyone. Those with low end consoles dont have to shill out 600 for a new console and game while still being able to enjoy some aspects of a game they are excited for, and basically no change for those with higher end hardware to begin with because they get an even better game that is made with the better hardware in mind instead of bringing the whole game to a "happy medium" hurting the potential content that could be added with a better console. Counterpoint would be like Black ops 3 i think it was which just looked like ass on xbox 360, although i think they still made people pay a full 60 for a shittier version of the same game
Don't think it'll matter at all. The series s is like a lower end pc. It will still run the game but at a lower quality + Rockstar optimise their games really well. It's kind of hard to believe the series s is holding back gaming when my gtx 1050 can easily run ghost of tsushima at med/high with 50fps. Slightly more work for developers? Sure. But games should be well optimised anyway
Luke i know you are not like that but you need to remember that there are many people like me in nations with weak currencies and the series s is all we can barely afford. I feel People in the west take for granted the advantages you hv in terms of price of goods forgetting that for most of the world 200 dollars is two to three months wages or even more
I don't think they will be alot of differences because rockstar knows how to optimize their games very well like in gta5 for the xbox 360 and ps3 I mean they also can mess up like they did for gta 4 for the pc version am sure that they can atleast make gta 6 playable at 30 frames 1080p or 720p am not sure but will see
honestly tho rockstar could just tell microsoft, we aint making this on the series s, and theyd have to be alright with that because theres no way theyd go without gta 6. its prob gonna be the biggest game of this entire decade.
If you use your brain and realize that you have multiplatform games that come out on console and pc and pc having the best features due to better tech. You can see that the potential of any game does not matter. So why would the potential of a game be limited because of series s? The potential wont be limited. Only the decision made by the devs.
As someone who owns a series s I understand this but I also think gaming consoles and gaming in general is too expensive for the average consumer. I don’t really care about having the best console and playing the biggest game with ray tracing, 60 fps etc. I just want a cheap way of playing the latest AAAs, so I think the series s is really important. I’d rather games are being slightly held back by a cheaper, less powerful console than for me to not be able to buy any games cos consoles are too expensive!
Nah, we need to cut the dead-weight of Series S, if you can't afford the newer consoles, then oh well, you get to lag in the other generation. Growing up I stuck to the PS2 while everyone else was at the 360/PS3 gen, didn't really become financially stable enough for even a used 360 until the PS4/Xbox One generation. Now I could easily afford a PS5 Pro if wanted. We can't hold back a entire gen with a weaker device, the Series S was a mistake in my opinion, they should've done like the 'New 3DS' did where there where games only playable in the stronger 3DS variant than int he base one, therefore the Series X should have had exclusive only games that the Series S didn't have access too.

If they didn't limit it then say goodbye to say 30-40% of the potential sales from players of the global south who predominantly play on the series S. Like we either have a bigger community and less graphics and quality or vice versa...
The game is still gonna end up in the Microsoft store on both consoles regardless
All of those players on last gen felt forced to get new consoles to play GTA V the way Rockstar intended on how the game would perform. To this day I feel cheated and buying GTA V day one is my biggest video game regret, but wow was it a fantastic business move on their side.
Rockstar can optimize their games unlike other studios what they did with rdr2 on xbox one or gta v on xbox 360 they were both the best looking games at the time when they released
This is the same thing when they released the "value" 360, then the requirement was for all games to work on it without a hard drive from then on.. for 360 and PS3.

Well gta 6 is going to intensive game but optimized one because gta6 meant to release after rdr 2 basically first story part of rdr1. But Rockstar hold gra6 in 2021 because of gta5 online popularity and they were testing gta6 on both xbox series along with ps5. 1440p 30 fps for AAA title with optimization more than rdr2 800p on series s. 👍
It’s definitely going to be noticeable
Money over all. Even for Rockstar. The gap between console and pc is so incredible now that its not even logical to make games for them anymore. The series S is such a low end system for 2024/2025 its crazy.
What if they just didn't put it out on Series S
They won’t it’ll be out on all of this generations consoles. Look at rdr2 it ran great and looked great on the original Xbox one and ps4. The ps4 pro and Xbox one x were 4x more powerful than them. I think gta 6 will run perfectly at 1080p 30fps
Luke and many other people blame the series s but forget that games are still being released on even lower powered pc's and the steamdeck which also has worse specs

yes it is confirmed
Mmmm gta 6 was in development well before the series S came into the question. I reckon rockstar were making the game with hardware more in line with what they thought the next Xbox and PlayStation were going to use. And then Xbox threw a spammer in the works and now they are probably scaling down the series S version heavily just to have a game ship out in a somewhat working order.
That's fine. They'll just sell us $70 next gen version a year later on the next console.
Console have been holding back games for years. Even something as streamlined mechanics so the game can function on a controller.
Do people forget that pcs have graphics settings? Its just a matter of turning some stuff down for the Series S.
I feel People in the west take for granted the advantages you hv in terms of price of goods forgetting that for most of the world 200 dollars is two to three months wages or even more
I don't think they will be alot of differences because rockstar knows how to optimize their games very well like in gta5 for the xbox 360 and ps3 I mean they also can mess up like they did for gta 4 for the pc version am sure that they can atleast make gta 6 playable at 30 frames 1080p or 720p am not sure but will see
I build a pc back in may and my series s has been collecting dust lol
Rockstar would never let a console hold them back. If they haven’t done anything, it means that the Series S is not a problem
honestly tho rockstar could just tell microsoft, we aint making this on the series s, and theyd have to be alright with that because theres no way theyd go without gta 6. its prob gonna be the biggest game of this entire decade.
Im sure microsoft is going to give a special exemption to gta6 like they did with bg3 and make 2 different versions of the game
I think the next series s is gonna just have the same performance as the x or slightly better but nowhere near the next gen
If you use your brain and realize that you have multiplatform games that come out on console and pc and pc having the best features due to better tech. You can see that the potential of any game does not matter. So why would the potential of a game be limited because of series s? The potential wont be limited. Only the decision made by the devs.
Ok but whats forcing third party developers to develope it for an underpowered system? I guess more sales?
As someone who owns a series s I understand this but I also think gaming consoles and gaming in general is too expensive for the average consumer. I don’t really care about having the best console and playing the biggest game with ray tracing, 60 fps etc. I just want a cheap way of playing the latest AAAs, so I think the series s is really important. I’d rather games are being slightly held back by a cheaper, less powerful console than for me to not be able to buy any games cos consoles are too expensive!
The digital only ps5 is only 100 more dollars and has more storage.
@@Joel-wx7zk So people who can’t afford a console that in some countries costs the same as a month salary don’t get to experience gaming culture?
