During the separation of the strawhats, everyone was sent to islands that fits them well excluding Brook. Unlike Nami on weatheria, or Franky on Katakuri, his location is not that connected to him because he spent his 2 years going on tour.
It maybe because Brook was new to the crew at that time and Kuma wasn't able to gain information about him. (Let's add the fact that he was drifting alone in the Florian Triangle for 50 years.) He was isolated from the world.
Personally, it make sense to me now. At first, I never understand why Kuma sent Robin to a place where she'll be enslaved. He maybe sent Robin to the Tequila wolf where he knew that the place will be liberated by the Revolutionaries and will make her join them.
Robin is connected to the revolutionaries because Ohara serves as the trigger point to Dragon that results in the creation of the revolutionary army. She's basically part of the foundation of it.
That leaves the question of "What did Robin do in those 2 years?" Aside from training.
Robin knew about Sabo, but she was quiet about it. Since her time with the revolutionaries are not seen, maybe she still has some information to uncover.

About Dragon not telling Robin: Perhaps he didn't know that the one behind the giants is Saul, since unlike Vegapunk, he did not visit Elbaf to read the books. Also, just because he knew Robin was a survivor from Ohara, that does not necessarily mean he knew about her connection to Saul. After all, by the time he visited Ohara, Saul was already gone from the place. Perhaps he could have told her that he was on the island and saw giants take the books away, but that's about it. But who knows what that man is thinking, Dragon has not been particularly shown as a loose-lipped person in the story so far.

If Dragon knew about Saul then i do not think he would have told Robin because of the risk. Robin is similar to Luffy in the way that if she makes up her mind about a path she wil follow that path to the end. So imagine if Dragon told Saul was alive and Robin would take off on her own to go see him. The journey would be too dangerous and think about all the enemies who would like to capture her: Big Mom, Kaido and Blackbeard to name a couple.

But it still makes you think about why on Chapter 593 Revolutionaries are insisting on taking Robin with Dragon, calling her the "Light of the Revolution" and stating they've been looking for her for over 10 years as she was the sole survivor of the Ohara Incident. Then 2 years later Robin is acting shocked when finding that Dragons motivation for forming the Revolutionary Army was the Ohara Incident and Clover's death. So pretty much Dragon never told her about it lol.
At the end we don't know anything really about what Robin did on the timeskip, guess we'll have to find out if that eventually gets revealed.

Dragon not telling Robin anything was probably a mix of not knowing that she didn't know and not wanting her to be distracted. After all if you have Robin on your side and she is angry at the people you are fighting then you have a powerful ally. But if she is distracted with the knowledge that Saul is alive then she won't be doing anything for you until she meets him.

I'm surprised it got so far
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me in the end
    You kept everything inside
And even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually
Be a memory of a time when I

    All I know
    Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
    The clock ticks life away
    It's so unreal
    You didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Tryin' to hold on, they didn't even know

When you think about it, Saul's death was always ambiguous. For every flashback death beside Sabo, you could basically pinpoint the instant a character died. But not for Saul, the guy was just frozen. And do you know who else we saw freeze completely? Robin, Luffy, Buggy, Jozu, Doflamingo and Cracker. We even saw random prisoners and innocent Chocolat Town citizens freeze. If they all survived, but a Giant Vice Admiral died frozen on a burning island, it would have made no sense.

If you think Saul's only purpose in Robin's flashback was for him to survive and preserve the knowledge of Ohara. The friendship Robin had with him was important for Robin but in those scenes, he can be replaced with Clover or any other archeologist (which she knew for a long time and not just a few days like Saul) in Ohara. So why would O da need Saul who is also a giant if not for him to survive and ‘’move’’ Ohara to Elbaf?

Giants aren't really the sciency and scholary type and since Saul was quite special and has the will of D, he might serve as a bridge between the meathead warriors of Elbaf and science and reason and that might be used to recruit giants into the revolutionary army which will then be joined by Straw Hat fleet in a battle of such scale, battle for pellenor fields and endgame will pale in comparison.

One Piece chapter 1066 begins its story with the Straw Hat crew questioning what Vegapunk Shaka has just told them, calling it just a theory. Shaka explained that an archeologist in the past staked his life on it, and almost revealed the Ancient Kingdom’s name. He also said that, at the same location, the machines seen on Egghead were discovered, and their manufacture agreed upon.
This led Robin to question if he’s referring to the machine being built during the Void Century, asking Shaka how much is truly known to him. Nami asks Robin if she knows anything about this, as Shaka begins discussing Ohara’s fate with Robin. He shares his theory that Ohara learning the Ancient Kingdom’s name was the cause of Ohara’s destruction, elaborating that the Void Century they studied is actually a history of the Ancient Kingdom.
More specifically, it’s a recount of the war they waged against the 20 kingdoms that would eventually form the World Government. To prevent the name from being passed down, the World Government erased all traces of that Kingdom. The Straw Hats eventually surmise that the “he” Vegapunk had referenced earlier was the man who discovered this Kingdom’s name, and was eventually eliminated for it.
    )
The Straw Hats question why they had to be given the information, but Vegapunk counters that it’s just a theory like they said. However, he turns to Robin and asks her if she feels that the World Government’s attacking Ohara is the same as confirming the theory. She asks him why he’s sharing this and if he’s told the World Government, but he responds that even he would be killed for speaking of it.
Robin begins asking Shaka how he knows of this since Ohara’s books were the only records of Void Century study. However, Vegapunk soliloquizes that the Will of Ohara lives on, and just how Robin survived Ohara, so did the knowledge of Professor Clover, Vegapunk’s old friend. He elaborates that he returned to Ohara several months later to find it a burnt field, where he offered a tribute of flowers to Clover.
He explains that Clover was once an adventurer obsessed with learning about the Void Century, being undeterred by his 10 imprisonments. He eventually settled in Ohara, and as the world’s most famous archeologist, drew others thirsting for knowledge to the island. Vegapunk speculates that this gathering of knowledge is what caused the island to be burned down.
Vagapunk proceeds to explain that upon arriving at Ohara several months later, he saw a giant lake in the center of the island with various literature sunken at its bottom. One Piece chapter 1066 offers a flashback here, where the younger Vegapunk is seen theorizing that scholars threw books into the lake to protect them from the Buster Call’s flames and destruction.
Shaka, in the present, explains that even if foot soldiers saw them, their value wouldn’t be known, with the victory being Ohara’s and Vegapunk shedding tears of joy at their win. Meanwhile, another flashback shows Robin talking to her mother, Nico Olvia, who tells her she still has something left to do while instructing her daughter to get off the island.
Olvia seems to have been part of the Ohara scholars who threw the books into the lake, internally telling Robin that history is humanity’s treasure. She also says that for the sake of all of their futures (referring to Robin and other children like her in the world), they won’t give up.
The flashback then cuts back to Robin and Jaguar D. Saul, and the latter is seen telling the former to be proud of her mother and explaining that Ohara fought against the world. One Piece chapter 1066 then returns to the present, where Robin is seen crying before she confirms Vegapunk’s theory on Ohara and what they learned.
She asks where the books in the lake are now, as Vegapunk explains that he wanted to bring them to Punk Hazard, but it wasn’t worth the risk of higher-ups in the Government learning of it. Returning to Vegapunk’s flashback several months after the Buster Call, One Piece chapter 1066 sees the younger Vegapunk witnessing various Giants going into the lake.
He realizes that the Giants are pulling the books out of the lake, wondering what he should do and whether the Giants know of their value. Suddenly, Monkey D. Dragon arrives, greeting Vegapunk like an old friend while saying it’s been a while. He even mocks his massively huge head here, suggesting the two were close, old friends.
Realizing who it is, Vegapunk asks what he’s doing here, to which Dragon responds by asking Vegapunk the same question while saying he was friends with Professor Clover. A shocked Vegapunk seeks confirmation, before once more monologuing about Clover’s past while also sharing his disbelief in the intel regarding Clover’s “plotting the world’s destruction.”
Dragon asks Vegapunk if he’s worried about the Giants, reassuring him that they’re not thieves and have come from Elbaf with knowledge of the literature’s value. He shares that their captain is “a strange man with bandages covering his whole body,” which leakers have since confirmed to be Jaguar D. Saul, marking his first appearance in over 650 chapters in One Piece chapter 1066.
Dragon continues, sharing that Saul essentially swore that he would protect the treasures that Oharans died to save, before sharing the concern that Vegapunk came to discard the literature. Vegapunk rejects this explanation, prompting Dragon to share his disappointment with his friend’s joining the World Government, saying he was going to invite him to join his Revolutionary Army.
However, Vegapunk says that he can’t use his intellect and technology with the penniless Revolutionary Army, prompting Dragon to yield to him. Vegapunk then says that there are those within the World Government and Marines who share Dragon’s sentiment, telling his friend not to lose sight of his goal.
However, Dragon confesses that the Ohara incident is simply too much, questioning how scholars who were merely researching the past could be eradicated so mercilessly.
He resolves to create an army that can fight for the people, as Vegapunk questions how someone who can hate war like him could do such a thing. Dragon then swears to change the world and not let Clover’s death and Ohara’s will be in vain.
One Piece chapter 1066 then sees Nami praising Dragon’s passion, while Usopp questions if Shaka said Elbaf's name. Robin says she had no idea of Dragon and Clover’s connection, as Franky questions why Kuma saved them and why Vegapunk modified Kuma. Sanji, meanwhile, calls Ivankov a bastard after realizing he’s a founding member of the Revolutionary Army.
Shaka claims that Ohara’s literature can’t be found by the World Government, saying he instead secretly went to Elbaf and read all the literature there. This then formed the basis of his knowledge, as well as everything he’s been able to invent throughout his career. It’s once again confirmed here that the Giants’ leader was Saul, with Vegapunk sharing he’s still alive and laying low.
Robin smiles, and thanks Shaka for not letting the battles that the Oharans fought go to waste with the destruction of their knowledge. Suddenly, One Piece chapter 1066 sees the shoes the Straw Hats are wearing begin to move on their own, as Shaka apologizes for not letting them go yet but beckons them all to come see something.
One Piece chapter 1066 then shifts perspective to Luffy’s group, where Luffy tells Chopper that he sees no “riding spot” on the giant robot. Chopper guesses that it’s the kind of robot that moves on its own, attempting to activate it with his voice. Luffy thinks that the robot must have a name, and the name needs to be said to get it to move, prompting he and Chopper to tell “Robonosuke” to move.
Bonney questions if they’re kids, saying there’s no way the robot will move when it suddenly explodes. The real Vegapunk is then heard asking someone to save him, calling it another failure and saying that space-time must have contorted during teleportation. Luffy questions who it is, before turning to save him, as Bonney begins to realize who they’ve just met.
Vegapunk then asks Luffy if he’s Dragon’s son, saying he knew Luffy would one day come here. He also recognizes Bonney, telling her she’s grown a lot and that he’s glad to see her doing well. Luffy asks Vegapunk why he’s floating, explaining that Luffy’s shoes also have the capability to do so with a button and lever.
Luffy, Vegapunk, and Chopper all blast into the sky, as One Piece chapter 1066 formally introduces Vegapunk. Calling him the “man with the best brain in the world” and reaffirming him as the leader of the Special Science Group, the issue ends with no announcement of a break next week.
One Piece chapter 1066: Final thoughts
Overall, One Piece chapter 1066 is a very deep and informative issue, arguably one of the most of its kind in recent publication history. The long-awaited and highly-anticipated reveal of the real Dr. Vegapunk is also very exciting, and has created a massive stir amongst the series’ faithful fans.
One Piece chapter 1066 is also fantastic in its unexpected character development of Nico Robin, thanks to the expansion on Ohara’s destruction. Jaguar D. Saul’s still being alive also gives fans of Robin something to look forward to when the Straw Hats head to Elbaf, which is certain to happen given these recent events.
Finally, the reveal of Vegapunk and Dragon’s apparently storied history with one another in One Piece chapter 1066 is also incredibly interesting. Should Vegapunk be confirmed as the leader of SWORD, fans will most likely see these two team up their respective organizations at some point prior to the end of the series.

Yeah, she just saw everything she knew and loved brutally taken from her, was left by herself on the run for 20 years, and didn't see or know about her only surviving friend being alive for all that time she was being hunted down. No impact, of course.

I CANNOT think of a good reasoning for bringing him back. It simply devalues Robin's backstory and doesn't seem to bring anything of value

Of all the characters Oda has brought back this is my favorite. It even makes sense he was frozen and slowly defrosted and the island burned. It’s more poetic then anything.

I disagree, it cuts back on nothing because Robin still lost absolutely everything, it’s only now at the age of 30 she gets one of those people back, that’s all

I hadn’t yet gotten misty eyes reading the Manga since i caught up late last year (Watched anime to end of oden flashback/ very start of raid then switched to reading Manga) but Robins happy face crying (the one next to the thankyou Vegapunk panel) made me break my streak.

I certainly didn't see any of this coming. The truth behind the Void Century, Professor Clover's past, Jaguar D. Saul is still alive, and for the first time since he was mentioned by Koby all the way back in chapter 433, we finally see what the original Dr. Vegapunk looks like, both in the past and in the present! This might be my new favorite chapter of the series and there's just too much to go over with it! I'll try to break down a few points of interest for me:
-We don't get a full reveal of what happened during the Void Century, but I feel like we got more information about it here than we have throughout the entire series (still need to leave some secrets for later, I suppose)
-You'd think at this point, after being wanted by the World Government, you'd think stuff like knowing about the Void Century wouldn't phase them, but I guess being a pirate and being specifically targeted for elimination because they "know too much" are two different things.
-Minor point, and I really does make sense if you actually think about it, but I was initially surprised that Robin assumed all the books were destroyed along with the Tree of Knowledge on Ohara. I suppose a lot was happening at the time, and Robin didn't go back after Ohara was destroyed, so she didn't know the scholars used the last of their remaining time to save as much of their knowledge as they could.
-Being reminded of Ohara in general has me a bit nostalgic, it was all revealed long ago, but as it turns out, Robin's past on Ohara is critically important to the ongoing plot going forward. Also, it seems that Professor Clover was much more important than he initially seemed (and more rebellious at that)
-I suppose Jaguar D. Saul has now been added to the list of One Piece characters thought to have been dead but in reality still lives, though honestly I don't mind it in this case; Robin's backstory was already tragic enough as it was, with her mentor Clover and her mother Nico Olivia still dying from the Buster Call attack, plus there are some plausible explanations for how Saul could have survived the encounter. At the very least, I'm just happy for Robin that one of the people she was close to still lives.
-I can't help but get a kick out of Saul, who had previously disregarded the giants of Elbaf as "barbaric", going to the giants of Elbaf to collect and preserve the books the scholars of Ohara saved. Not to mention, I feel like this, more than anything, solidifies that the Straw Hat Pirates are going to Elbaf at some point, there are just too many important points of interest not to.
-Getting a bit more insight on Dragon's past was also a treat; before the Revolutionary Army, he was part of a group called the "Freedom Fighters", and that he founded the Revolutionary Army with Ivankov and Kuma specifically is all fascinating stuff. It also makes me interested in when, exactly, he conceived Luffy with Luffy's mother, since this was 22 years ago, 3 years before Luffy would be born. Also, Dragon hates war? Maybe that ties into why Vegapunk called those killer robots he made "Pacifistas".
-Another minor point, I love each Straw Hat crewmember having a different reaction to Shaka's story; Nami has admiration for Dragon, Usopp takes note of Elbaf's involvement, Robin is surprised Clover and Dragon new each other, Franky wants to know what Kuma helped them specifically, Sanji is surprised Ivankov was a founding member of the Revolutionary army. What they decide to make note of ties into their personal experiences and what interests them specifically, and I think that's neat.
-I'm just gonna say it... I love the original Vegapunk's design, both in the past and in the present. It's just so ridiculous and goofy, but also SO One Piece, it's the perfect kind of reveal for someone who was mentioned so frequently for years but we never actually saw! In particular, I love how he constantly sticks out his tongue, and with his present look in particular, looks just like that one photograph of Albert Eistein with his tongue sticking out (you know the one).
-It wasn't specified in the chapter, but I'm willing to bet Vegapunk used pieces of his massive brain to create his six "satellite" Vegapunks, and that apple-thing on his head is what he uses to stay connected to all of them. On that note, I also get the feeling that the removal of parts of his brain turned him into something of a literal "absent-minded professor"; we already see hints of that being the case, given how he overshoots the hover feature on his Dom shoes.
Great chapter, love everything in it!
