Didn't catch the premiere, so only watched it later on.
As nice as it would have been for Sein to stay with the party, it makes sense for his character arc for him to leave, as Frieren told him to live in the present, and to do that he needs to find out what happened to Gorilla Warrior. To keep travelling with the party would be another way for him to avoid finding out what happened to his friend, and that's not what Sein's character development is set-up to be.
I do think he'll re-join the party eventually, but for now they're missing their Corrupt Priest.

    • @storieswithstyle

Yeah, I agree with this. He also is not "needed" in mage exams (Stark just disappeared as well) and he would accelerate Fern/Stark relationship too much. He can only join once he learns Gorilla is dead, I feel. =)

I feel like the ages of elves shouldn't be compared by visual estimation. All we can do is assume elves are like turtles and all look the same for the rest of their lives once they reach a certain age. Kraft I feel, is a special case, but Frieren, we can assume will likely not look any older as time continues to pass. My basis on this is she looks the same 1000 years ago as how she currently looks.
    P.S.
Have you ever thought of this? To Frieren Fern is growing up in the blink of an eye. To us they're growing up in the blink of an eye as well. In manga and anime form, as you go through the chapters, time passes by quickly. By the time they reach Aureole, 10 years will likely have passed.

Surprised at the lack of comment on Fern being scared of Stark's strength. Just by resting his hand on her shoulder while he touched her face was enough that she couldn't move. She hadn't actually realised how strong he was before that, seeing and experiencing being different.

I took it as her just not realising who stark is and not wanting to admit she likes his "manly" qualities, but I might be wrong. =)

    • @Despotic_Waffle
      @Despotic_Waffle 9 месяцев назад +17

@storieswithstyle My interpretation of it is twofold. Firstly a repeat of the mention of Eisen being scared of stark. So Stark is obscenely strong for his age I guess. Second is a different dimension to what you mentioned about manly qualities, but related. I think Fern was startled in a way in real life a woman cpuld be startled by a sudden show of physical strength by a man, leading to feelings of vulnerability and danger. To me this event marks a sort of setting boundaries in a relationship, Stark needs to learn to be gentle in dealing with his 'sweetheart', and it's not stated or resolved here, but I think Fern also needs to learn to be able to trust and show vulnerability to Stark more. A slow building of trust between the confused couple.

@@joaor96 ?? She made fun of his size before he tried being friendly with her and offered to eat with her though? That happened once and that was barely a day or two since they both met for the first time. Also she might be rude but to me she just acts like an awkward girl who is navigating the world and interacting with other people properly for the first time after having been through war and trauma in her younger years and then spending a lot of her life interacting with mostly Frieren and Heiter? She has her flaws but she's also justifiably scared of men touching her with force?? It's a fear girls and women develop very early on in life even before becoming adults and very realistic for her to have even if she needs to learn to trust people more.

    • @joaor96
      @joaor96 9 месяцев назад +1

@@sruthi267 English not being my first language, the point didn’t come across. It’s to contrast the behavior between the two, She makes fun of him and is hostile, and he’s friendly despite that. You are right she did make fun of his size first, and he still tried to be friendly with her. Do you not see that that is the point? I do not understand why you dismiss that. He is nothing but nice to her.
Remember the episode when he wanted to get her a gift? She is immediately mad at him, not even letting Stark speak. In that episode Stark says something telling: “I wanted to choose a gift with you, since i don’t know what you like with. But i thought you would get mad again if i said that...etc ” Think about it with reversed genders, people would say the Women was being abused, it also demonstrates that he his already expecting her to be mad at him because she does it so often. What does that tell you about her behavior?
In fact she many times says Stark is a Sexual Pervert even though he is no such thing.
It would be more understandable if it was presented as a character flaw of hers, or if it was the result of how she was raised as you say, but the show still blames Stark, with him making many apologies even though he did nothing wrong for these interactions. And Half-assing reprimanding Fern for her actions, providing no justification for them.
I do not agree that she is “justifiably scared of men” (not to mention that he touched her shoulder in a friendly way), but before we get lost in IRL stuff lets condense it to this. You think she as flaws and they are justified for some reason.
I take that at face value and say i agree, she does have flaws and”she needs to learn to trust people more.” We both acknowledge She as at least some fault in this. Which is in contrast to the commenter i was responding that pushed the blame only on Stark.
Stark is a literal Sweet Heart...and i'm not saying Fern is evil or is only mean to him, but i don’t think people are acknowledging the bad parts she does, and more importantly i don’t think the author is either. The reason i bring it up is because i also want it to be a cute romance between them, but i fear the author as leaned too much into Fern being mean for it to be what i consider good writing.
Why would you fall in love with a women who gets mad if you touch her? And should you?
Granted that if the series addresses this in future episodes not only will my point be mute, but i think the series would be even more deserving of praise. It’s just considering the way it’s going now i don’t think it will be.

Sein is one of my favorite characters in this show and I wish he'd have stayed, but being honest, from a narrative standpoint, he just had to go. For all that they trash talk him for being even more corrupt than Heiter for on top of liking to drink also liking to smoke and gamble and the ladies, the truth is that he was just way too sensible and mature for this party of dumbasses.
If he'd stayed he'd have Fern and Stark happily married and Frieren fully grasping what it means to be human within a couple of years just by giving them solid advice and mediating their disputes, and their journey would lose its main driving force.

Sein's best line of the whole episode: "Just start dating already!"
I like the name of the mountains - "Open." Frieren opened up a lot of her awareness of humans, despite believing she has a long way to go. She's picked up on so much about her human companions. It'll be great to see how she reacts when she finally realizes it.
I think my biggest take was on her and Sein both needing a push. I don't think Frieren was thinking low of herself however. Rather she had become settled in a certain way of living, and it took something special to break her out of a thousand years of habit. Sein was a different matter.

In an open winter, where snow is fleeting or rare, hellebores, camellias, early bulbs (Galanthus, snow crocus, Eranthis, early daffodils…), autumn cherry (blooms fall to early spring) will bloom. I guess this icicle (winter) cherry is a reference to a weeping autumn one. I believe that during the thaw there may be rain, and then frost and icicles will appear on the tree. I like how authors play with the word "weeping" (crying), which resembles tears as icicles on a tree.

Frieren is definitely a "teenager" in elven terms. 1000 years ago, she was pretty clearly an adolescent, but she doesn't look to have matured all that much since then. I'd estimate her equivalent human age to be 16 or 17 or so, maybe even a year or two less. Both Stark and Fern are more mature than she is at this point, at least physically.

I wonder if Frieren will pass the First-Class mage test, I can imagine a scenario where if they only pass one person each year to limit the number of licensed mages, and Frieren needs to make a decision to forgo getting the certification to help someone else. Then that would mean they'd pick up a new member of whoever does get the license which might just work out too. Just a wild guess, but excited to see where it goes in this next arc, and who replaces Stein! "Legendary spells" indeed haha. It's been a little more calm these last couple episodes, but I think that will change soon too!

@@storieswithstyleI feel maybe this a misdirect haha (or maybe not!), but Fern would be a possibility, and Flamme said to Frieren to not put her name out there! Although when they recently talked about the license Fern did mention she had taken the test and became a C-Class mage, so I wonder 1) how long ago that test was (before the fight with Lugner, maybe while Frieren was in jail? Or earlier?) where maybe she's stronger now - and 2) when was she actually apart from Frieren long enough to take the test / does this mean the test is something she could just take and finish in a day? I probably just need to re-watch that episode, she most likely mentioned when exactly she took the test. Either way, I've paced myself to 1 episode per week until the finale is live so it'll be a little longer before I get my answers!

@@L_Freya1 Fern said she got the third-class mage certification before she and Frieren left Strahl (the holy capital, kind of like the vatican, on the outskirts of which Heiter lived as former bishop), maybe a bit before/maybe after Heiter died. She said she only got third-class because that test was the one they were conducting the the soonest at the time. so she's had her certification for about maybe three to four years now, since she started travelling with Frieren when it was twenty-six years after Himmel died and she got her hairpin from Frieren on her birthday twenty-seven years after Himmel died.

Actually I had some personal interpretation for the Opening and Ending from Cour1 to Cour2
    OP1&ED1:
Frieren: I`m going on a quest about understanding my own past, I wonder what I`ve missed. By thous, I might start a new episode of my life, some new meaning I should have knew much sooner.
Himmiel: Good point, mind the trace mark I left for you. With those, I could by your side whenever you need. Still, I`m a bit worry, are you alright? I know you are actully childlishly invert and sensitive. You just don`t realize yet.
    ---
    OP2&ED1:
Frieren:Yes, I am alright now. I`m finally steping out from the past and find new companionship, the cloud shading my sky, they are gone. I look at the sky and find you, and enjoy the sunny day with everyone. Still, the fear of lost and forget haunting me, but I`m not alone this time, just like the time I was being with you. I am coming for you, to the Heaven, to tell you all of this face to face. I need to tell you, I am in bliss, thanks to your love. I am in bliss, to know how much you love me, to know how much I love you as well. Thanks to you telling me, yes, love can defies time.
(By the way, that song in ep1×11 you said might be Frieren called to Himmiel, its name is "Bliss".)
Himmiel: Then I am in bliss, as well.

A bit late to the party, but I didn't see another comment mention this, so I thought I'd add it. There's a nice callback here regarding Stark's strength. Fern says it wasn't the touch but Stark's strength that scared her, which he did unintentionally. This echoes what Eisen said, about Stark's strength surprising him to the extent that he hit Stark, in their parting moments. Stark has way too much power for his own good.
