In this video, I did react pretty strongly, as I was in the same situation as Jayce at the time, my best friend, who was also a researcher did suffer a terminal disease as well. As he has now passed away and I had some time to work through it, I ust wanted to tell those who gave comforting words in these comments all my hugs! =) It had been a really shitty time, and it helped a bit to see all you lovely people!

Vi and Viktor are easily my favorite characters in Arcane.
In the bar scene, Jinx isn't seducing Chuck(Thierem). She is absolutely f'kng with him. Jinx scares the shit out of Thierem because he knows how unhinged she is and Silco gives her carte blanche to do pretty much whatever she wants.
In the water tower, Vi doesn't let Caitlyn help her with her wound, not because she doesn't trust Cait but because Vi is so wracked with guilt, she doesn't believe she deserves help. When Caitlyn says "We're not all monsters. We're people, just like you." Vi says, "You don't know anything about me." Vi is essentially saying that she, herself, is a terrible person, a monster for what she did to Powder. Vi is in self-destruct mode.
When Silco loses it, he grabs the guy who was in Ren's room when he paid Marcus a visit earlier. The guy with the eyeshadow and likes to lick things. Silco didn't kill him though. The person Silco kicked on the ground was one of the Shimmer hobos that was killed in the tower collapse so he was already dead. Silco is furious because the last thing he wants is Vi to reach Jinx because seeing her sister again, the source of her pain, will cause Jinx to unravel and potentially undue the father/daughter relationship Silco built with Jinx over the years.

I know what you mean, I've met some brilliant people who have some great ideas that would have changed the world, but reality kicks in, they are very poor, struggling to survive day by day, and their potential is wasted working day by day trying to feed their 12 brothers and sisters because their parents don't know the meaning of responsibility.

I think that Viktor being a gifted kid that got picked up from the slums is a very interesting perceptive to this story, because that means Viktor was exactly in the same place as Jinx, he just got a little luckier thanks to Heimerdinger giving him an opportunity to thrive in a healthy environment.

Of all characters I resonated most with Viktor because of this. Going from being on public assistance as a kid in a single parent household to attending ISEPP lectures of Penrose, Sagan, Bakker, and others and actually getting to meet Sagan because my teacher had the connections.

      @chouon_owo 2 месяца назад +9

Viktor and Jinx: Gifted engineers, I love in the first season how even Viktor has to disarm a Jinx bomb and appreciates the engineering with which it is made
Ekko and Jayce: Innovators with a huge desire to improve the quality of life in their community
I think the parallels are very clear, since Jinx and Ekko were separated by the explosion in episode 3
Instead, he joined Jayce and Viktor.
Viktor and Jayce union made Piltover advance in leaps and bounds but the separation of Jinx and Ekko is the clear representation of how Zaun is so divided that, even having Shimmer, they were left behind compared to Piltover
Maybe if Jinx and Ekko had had the same opportunities as Jayce and Viktor, they would have done too much for their people.

"Pow-pow" is the name of Jinx's minigun, implying that she talks to inanimate objects, but after learning that "Pow-Pow" was also Vi's childhood name for Powder, I'm wondering if she's actually talking about her child-self.

What's so great about this is that there's no need for artificial stupid drama, you don't need misunderstandings, because the series has packed itself with enough conflict that drama can arise naturally. You don't need Vi not showing up and making Jinx angry at her, because of Vi's alliance with Caitlyn and all what she represents there's already enough drama to explore. We don't need Mel to be angry at Jayce for leaving her the other night, because it allows him to talk about her, show that she has human empathy, and it even flows into her topic of her feelings about her family. Everything flows and connects in a way that feels genuine.

@supercato9613 Er, what? Vi said basically, 'You're right, Powder can't do it, except I'm being sarcastic, shut up, you suck too,' and Powder only heard the first part. She literally took a sarcastic statement as a sincere criticism from the person whose opinion matters most.
The first two episodes show very explicitly that a lot of Powder's self worth comes from keeping up with her older sister and her older sister's encouragement. Having that yanked out from under her is what puts her into a full breakdown and leads to the events at the end of act one, when she becomes desperate to prove she can be useful and not a screw-up. Her very first reaction afterward is to run and show Vi her 'success.'
If you really think nothing would have changed had Powder heard the whole statement, then I really hope you never have a child depend on you for their emotional wellbeing.

The man young Victor met in the beginning is the man who came up with the shimmer drug, in fact I believe the cute monster is the original source of Shimmer. He was in the first episode, together with Silco, doing the cat and mouse experiment. We also briefly saw him in the explosion in episode 3 where it burned his lab with him inside it. A very minor role in the story until we see him with Victor, but a quite important role in the science behind it all.

So he does not want Rio to die, he is traumatized about being unable to save his daughter from death and now will do anything to prevent Rio from dying and having to lose it. That is why he is pumping it full of shimmer in an attempt to halt its death unfortunately for RIo. This is further reinforced by the fact that we see no animals in the shimmer factories later. great episode! answering a few of your questions, random order because my brain endulges chaos: #1 Medarda isnt a region, its the name of the House that Mel was borne into. #2 Silco just went all-aggression out on some of his goons and the mutated junkies he shimmered up to beat Vi. his anger probably is not based on them just loosing (he is used to that by now), but on the danger Vi poses for his plans #3 the junkie that sold out cait + vi was not a random, he was the guy from episode 1 (Huck), that was saved by Vander in the bar scene #4 with your netflix set to german, dont give too much in for episode titles. ep 6 is titled "when these walls come crumbling down" in english :) #5 "what was that, that was awesome?!" - a firelight tossed one of their crystal-grenades at jinx and she shot it mid-air and put a bomb on his hover-board #6 about the awesome writing i'll share something you wont notice until your 5th+ rewatch :D The scene in the bar, with Chuck/Thieram... remember that scene? now think back to the end of episode 2, when little Powder was in the bar with Vander and he poured her a drink. now comparing those scenes, Jinx/Powder have the exact same body language, even though its years apart. and even better, Chuck/Thieram pours her a drink the EXACT same way Vander did. Just imagine little Jinx terrorizing Silco's goons until they learn how to pour her a drink as she remembered from happier times. and one last thing, it is only a theory, but it would fit into the genius writing that created Arcane. Chuck/Thieram is the same guy that chased little Powder in episode 1. His facial features are quite similar and it would explain why she teases him with pink smoke bombs. Otherwise it would be totally random and compared to certain DC-Characters, Jinx is not random.

Silco is angry because he's having a horrible day. He knows Vi is alive (which will cause conflict between him and Jinx since she thinks he lied to her about Vi's "death"), and he doesn't want to lose Jinx. He knows Vi is trying to find her, and with her and Caitlyn escaping that just shoots up the chances of Jinx reconnecting with her sister and leaving Silco behind. On top of this, Silco loses Vi and Caitlyn when he had a really good opportunity to kill them (Vi just recovered from being injured, and Caitlyn didn't even have a gun).

The "who did he kill" portion, First he slapped around the "Licky blonde goon" because the goon reported back that they lost Vi and Caitlyn. Silco was irrational and angry and took his frustration out on him. But Silco didn't kill HIM, Silco calmed down, and took his jacket off and had a chat with "Huck" (the guy who helped get Vi some medicine, and was also the patron of the Last Drop in EP1 that Vander saved from the out-of-town traders where trying to cheat him), during this chat it was revealed that Huck betrayed Silco, so Silco stomped him to death while he was still trapped under the wreckage of the water tower. The Blonde goon is fine, you'll see him later.

Exeption to the rule that actions always speak louder than words:

about your “actions always speak louder than words”, I definitely agree. However, I think that there are times where words may BE actions, and instigate change by reaction. Words can push people to do something- but maybe in that case it would be better to call it a cause of action? That’s how I see it at least!

I don't know if many people noticed it because I've never seen/heard anyone mention it yet, but when Victor walks into the doctor's cave (The one he used to visit Rio in as a child) and says to the Dr (Singed) "I understand, now". For some reason, that brief, easily missed moment always gets to me.

It's kind of interesting to watch other people theorize why Silco snapped in anger during the music montage. A good theory that I've heard is that:
Silco can handle Jinx going against what he wishes
Silco can handle Vi returning to the Undercity and threatening to destroy his empire and most importantly, get back Jinx
Silco can handle Caitlyn, an enforcer, being close to knowing the truth and bring it to the public
Silco can handle Jayce putting pressure on enforcers to be all over his business
He can handle all those things SEPARATELY, but when they all happen in less than two days back-to-back, he just BREAKS and finally lets his inner monster out.

Small point, when Jinx talks alone in her room to her “toys”, we can see that each toy represents a member of her family that she has “killed”:

A big part of Heimerdinger's reservations is because he was alive to see arcane magic used to basically destroy the world the last time someone was messing around with it. You, by far, have thee most interesting take on the Arcane series. An actual intelligent analysis moment by moment.
    EDIT/ADDON =
I 100% understand the outpour of emotion and momentary breakdown. Not to say in any way I understand your personal situation, but how the structure of a scene, or the words spoken in one can hit us as individuals as such that they describe something that we, ourselves, haven't been able to outwardly describe or express in a way that satisfies us on a personal level. It's impactful in such a way we often don't know how to process it and are left with only our primitive, most ingrained natural response. To cry... Crying is ingrained in us. An instinct. A powerful, natural, genetic trait. An instinct. As it is with many forms of life on this planet. It is the most natural thing to do when our minds and bodies have no idea what else to do...

Here is a rough synopsis of what you just watched (because there are some things you didn't catch)... Silco goes to Marcus to question him about how it is that Vi is still alive and to leverage Marcus' daughter. Silco tells Marcus that Vi and Caitlin must not be allowed to resurface. Silco doesn't want Vi to reunite with Jinx. Silco's soldiers pursue Vi and Caitlin until they escape further into the depths (slums) of the undercity. To a place where Vi and Powder lived before being "adopted" by Vander. The sick little man who takes Caitlin to the apothecary (doctor) is Huck. Huck is the little fellow who Vander protected at "The last Drop" when Huck was being screwed over during a business deal inside the bar. After Vander was gone (this is subtext) there was no protector for Huck, so he consumed "shimmer" to become beastly and protect himself. Long term use of "shimmer" is addictive and has negative physical effects. The "healing potion" that the apothecary prepares holds a single drop of "shimmer". In low doses, shimmer can be used as a medicine. "Shimmer" was developed by "Singed", he is the doctor that was working with Silco (Silco is not a scientist) during the beginning episodes. He was caught in a fireball when Powders "monkey bomb" exploded during episode #3. He was severely burned. "Singed" is also the man that young Viktor met inside the cave. At that time "Singed" was experimenting with his "mutation", Rio. Rio is the salamander-like creature. Rio eats the purple flowers and then her body produces "shimmer". This is why "Singed" states that "the mutation must survive". He doesn't care about the creature... only the useful mutation. After Vi is healed by the shimmer-potion she is found by Silco. Huck ratted her out for a shimmer reward... Huck is an addict. Silco is there because he wants to prevent Vi from reuniting with Jinx. He desperately doesn't want to lose Jinx to Vi. Silco, who is normally calm and cool in his dealings, loses control as Vi and Caitlin escape his clutches. Silco beats one of his minions in frustration. Additionally we see Marcus barricade the bridges in order to allow searches of anyone trying to cross between the upper and lower cities. Marcus tricked Jayce into giving that order in order to "protect the city from further attacks", but in reality it is because Marcus is carrying out Silco's orders. The main gist here is that Silco is afraid that Vi is going to take Jinx away from him. He doesn't want that because he is either protecting Jinx from her sister, or he loves her like a daughter, or he needs her to build his weapon (again, Silco is not a scientist), or a combination of all of the above.

I love that they made such strong female characters, and strong male characters too. You're right. So many writers think a "strong" female character is her being a "girl boss" but it's boiled down to being confrontational, hostile, and even cruel. What's worse is the writers then have all the other characters take their abuse on the chin or even praise her. It's not normal. Yes, you can absolutely have a character who's all the things I listed, but no one would praise them for it. Real people would call them out. Vi is confrontational and even hostile, but she's also so loyal and steady. She'll go to the wall for anyone she loves. Multi layered. I think in my rant I found the issue. Many writers don't give their characters enough depth the way this show does, and they should. It makes them compelling. If you're interested in what I'm saying its better explained by "Schnee" in his videos "how arcane writes women/men". I've always felt like writers weren't hitting the mark with "strong" women characters, but I couldn't articulate what good representation would look like. He does it perfectly! He also has a lot to say about why the men in arcane are so special and well written. Definitely worth a watch.
