One of the rare times we actually see you hit the ball, like to see more! Thanks for all the videos, my sons and I have learned quite a bit from you. We are seeing the positive results and share your videos with other teammates.
I’ve been out of practice and I’ve gotten back into baseball recently. I’m a sophomore in high school and realized if I want to make it to professional baseball, this is probably my last shot to develop my skills so I’ve been training every day last summer till now and your videos really have helped me improve.
I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate you making these videos. A year or two ago I had to completely change my swing to stop dropping my bat head, and your videos helped me understand better of what my swing should look like.
Matt you using the word "Sequence" to describe the key to power hitting is exactly the way I teach it. To pretend your body is a giant rubber band. Stretching the upper & lower body in opposite directions. Its the only way I knew to describe it myself lol. It has served me well in the past using this method. Now at the age of 45 it continues to work for me as I am still hitting HRs in my very young & competitive adult baseball league 😆 I just started watching your content & out of all the ones I've watched you are the only instructor that I've seen teaching this method. Also by far the best at explaining all "mechanics ". This also solidifies my opinion of using this same method as coach youth teams as well as my own 11 & 7yr olds. It will be nice to use this video & show them that their dad might just know a couple things lol 😉 Keep the content coming brother! Thanks Shawn
Dude you read my mind. I know about what you are talking about with the rubber band but definitely feel like I haven’t been driving with my lower half like I used to years ago. Thanks for the great stuff.
Youve made a lot of hitting videos but this right here is easily the best. It kinda just clicked for me mid way through the vid when you were going through the sequence and I understood what u meant
This is exactly correct. I play golf now and their are a lot of the same things but it super crazy detail. sequence and rhythm are the most important part of building a powerful swing. This 1 golf instructor called it the "X- factor." it's making your shoulder line and hip line separate in transition. Load weight back rotate upper body, start to shift weight forward. Shoulders stay coiled right and hips start to rotate, then upper body follows after u get that stretch, get hands through hitting area before club head, hands gotta stay in front of the body, hold lag, release after the ball. Funny bcs I started playing golf in college after baseball and I had a 125mph clubhead speed. I'm a golf club fitter now, I watched my friend fit Mike Trout for golf clubs, the guy was swinging 137 mph. Telling u, the sequence is the exact same thing.
I enjoyed the vid and agree: precise sequence of rotational torque - from hips to upper body - is key to creating bat speed. I’ve noticed with my little guy that less upper body tension goes a long way to better sequencing and greater bat speed. The forward movement of the body with emphasis on the plant of the lead foot is worth considering (vs staying on back leg) as this forward motion and foot plant if done correctly -with shoulders square and relaxed - may do better to keep the upper extremities in a state of low tension. Relaxed and tension free, I find the upper extremities are better timed/sequenced to the clockwork of the lower extremities. If on the other hand, the batter gives emphasis to staying on the back leg to create torque it is often the case that the batter will turn his/her shoulder inward not square. Under the circumstances the batter will likely create tension in his/her upper extremities and release the tension in the form of a pull swing. The sequencing of rotational torque is led by the upper body rather than the hips.
Was working up the energy to watch an eight 1/2 minute video. Take a guess how many hours it took.. Learned more from this than i did from physics. 12 hours
Matt, I see in the comments an overwhelming majority of people saying how good this video is and how they think it’s one of your best. Before reading even one of those comments, I was thinking the same thing! Since it’s been some time since you posted this video and you’ve posted many more, where do you think it ranks among the hitting instruction videos that you posted?
My 6 year old have an aggressive forward step after loading and makes him get out of sequence because he is pulling his upper body forward and ends hitting the ball to the ground. I bought the rope bat to see if that helps him… we’ll see!
I'm trying to keep my 6yo from stepping because it gets his off balance. Sometimes he still does it and idk why. He hits so good when he keeps his front foot down.

Good luck making it to the majors!
How has that went??

Love it!
Thanks for the knowledge.
Another Excellent Video Matt!!👍👊
Thanks for the help😊

Thanks! Honestly I’ve posted so many I don’t know. I try to make each one the best one, so it’s tough to rank
Another great video thanks matt
so what did it feel like when you hit that home run in the majors?
what type of standing bag do you recommend?
Matt:
Where do you get that "tee dummy." The giant punching bag thing you hit into? That's what my daughter needs!
The Dak Prescott "dance." Same exact concept. Hip shoulder separation
would u say ;the hips lead the swing or the lower body moves first? Or, did I miss our point ?
Matt, i have heard another cue i.e. to stay connected. Can you reconcile that with the upper body staying behind the lower per this video?

can you provide a link to where you got that training flat bat from? thanks... I run a youth baseball program always looking for new training tools
halfbat.com
What are you swinging with it kinda looks like a half bat.
(Anyone else wondering or know what it is thanks)
Is that your pizza shovel Matt?
Second!
Said another way, launch from behind the Corner…
