Damn...just learned about the Hamate bone today. Never thought about how many bones in the hand and how such a small injury in a small bone can really set you back as a baseball player.
Hamate is a common baseball injury. And it can take a while for players for fully recover. Could take years sometimes to fully regain strength. When the knob is rested in your hand, you sufficiently increase the risk of a hamate injury, but you get more control of the bat. It's why some guys like Mookie use as axe handle bat so they can get as low as possible without the knob putting pressure on the hamate. It's interesting stuff

Interesting to see the science behind it. I'm an EMT and the company I work for has the Everett Aquasox EMS contract. I remember working a game a couple years ago when Julio was playing for them before he got called up. I never knew who he was but the minute I saw him hit I knew he was going to be called up soon and he was. Glad he's playing for the Mariners.
