You are super lucky you had the common sense to not touch that fish. That was a scorpion fish, super venomous and considering you were out alone and on a kayak , you my friend are very lucky in deed.

Yes I was fishing in those same spots before you were even born! A bit of info for you: that old bridge use to be open for fishermen and camping, yes people would put up a tent and fish all night. Down the other end is Bahia Honda which sadly is a lot smaller than when I use to fish it! Also in Key West there use to be several large beaches that attracted tourist and are now gone due to global warming along with several beaches in Marathon! I hope when you are my age you will not have to say the same thing!

      Complete B.S.
Beaches erode. Usually because man-made structures that change currents.... dock, rocks, jetties, etc.
The high tide marks on sea walls haven't changed in 60 years.... Exactly the same.

Black grouper, gags aren’t encountered very often in the Keys.

The last one was a small gag grouper. Need some cut bait on The Jig in strips for the big snapper

Yeah brotha great catches! I finally bought a nice fishing Kayak and looking forward to hit the 7 mile bridge in the future...one spot area I'd like to share is the Channel #5 bridge area going the Atlantic side. I'm getting amazing reports right around the flats to the drop off areas. Permits, Tarpon, Sharks, Spanish Macks, Amber Jacks...I'd go in that area if I were you. So keep up the Florida Keys fishing! Love it!

As a trained fisheries biologist, I immediately noticed it was too late in the day to start fishing. I have found saltwater fish tend to eat from sunrise to about 10 am. After the sun gets high in the sky, most fish like to find deeper water and exposure to other larger predator fish.

That fish that you caught with the spines was a Lion fish. It’s an exotic that’s taking over. Supposed to be delicious. When you catch those we supposed to let them die.

Watched video. U might think of using quick realise clip for bucktails/soft plastics. That way you not cutting your leader back. And you get strong clips in today's market. Just a thought..

Some nice fish Rich. Any reason why you tie a clinch not and not and improved clinch? Also do you ever use any quick clips like T/A or breakaway?
