Best muti-tasker I have ever seen. Dude somehow puts on gloves while fighting a 40+" Tarpon, AND THENNN Tarpon spits his dead pin fish and he nets it while fighting the tarpon to use as bait again! HAHAHA Keep killin it Rich
Awesome! Love the open bail fishing technique...a Mexican guide showed me that many years ago when I chartered a boat out of Cabo w/ my son. We were fishing with sardines...he said...keep the bail open, hold the line over your finger...when something pulls it off, count a few seconds, then close the bail. Worked like a charm. Thank you!
Fantastic drone shots once again, love those. Did not realize tarpon would go after dead bait, those were nice size tarpon as well. It is beautiful down there. Keep 'em comin', thanks for sharing.
I’ve been catching tarpon for a couple years in saltwater ponds and stuff like that and typically the go to bait is live mullet, but I was surprised too they ate dead bait, just goes to show that fishing is just unpredictable
Awesome day for you, and to get a tarpon on that rod the same day you get it in mail is something special. Will definitely be checking out that rod.... thanks for the great video as always!
Haha yeah I definitely was lucky there wasn’t many bull sharks around. I think most of the sharks were nurse sharks. But I’m sure one Bull was nearby 😂 🙈
Richie, love the drone work dude. Always really good. I think you need a co-pilot fishing buddy with you all the time. I will graciously make that sacrifice for the betterment of the larger fishing community.
Seems like a valid measurement technique to me. Maybe not for a tournament or record fish, but I think you're right on or super close. I'd roll with it.
Awesome content, I fish down there often. Would be interested in knowing where you put in at. Always looking for new spots to launch the hobie. Tight lines
Great video. I am a newbe kayak fisherman so I really appreciate all of the information you are willing to provide. I've been fishing around Miami and looking forward to exploring the Keys.
Are you going to be getting the lightning Nomad? It’s the same hull just with a few upgrades including the power pole adapter. I may swap out my outback for it in the future, and keep the 180 drive
I was on a Miami beach causeway bridge where a fisherman was tossing grunt skins and tarpon were gorging on them. He gave me a skin and i proceeded to hook into and released the tarpon after climbing down to waters level..A lot of work but fun
How often do you go 2 for 2 on Tarpon that all but refuse to jump, catch a Jack that barely runs and get to touch a swimming shark on the same day? Awesome video. Thanks for sharing!
I have fished hundreds of times in Florida but never caught a tarpon. My buddy in Fort Pierce isn't interested in targeting them so they are still a bucket list fish.
I’ve never seen tarpon take a dead bait. They must have been hungry hanging out in that cove after their annual run. Usually have to put a mullet or blue crab under a cork. Cool video When are you going to to a Sebastian Inlet video? Tons of big snook, reds, and jacks. Tons of sharks. Or go when the water is rough during a storm and watch the tarpon roll in the waves. I got spooled from a massive tarpon there while on the south jetty at night. Fishing a bucktail for snook when a tarpon picked it up.
The reason these tarpon took the dead bait is because they sit at the marina all day waiting for scraps of fish to be thrown in after charters come back for the day. This is my best guess. I wouldn’t have any clue otherwise because I’m from ireland and there’s no fish half the size of a tarpon here but I stayed here in 2019 and watched them being fed from the dock all day long and fished off the rocks he fished at the start of the video. Caught a barracuda and was the biggest fish I’d ever caught. Hooked a tarpon but we weren’t equipped well enough with our target rods.
Hey Robert, likewise! Nah not much. I just caught the bait there then that I eventually used to catch the fish in this video. Although, when I did catch the bait and it was still alive. Big Tarpon started blowing up and I rigged up a rod and started throwing a mullet out but I decided to give the rod to my dad and he had two big Tarpon bites and a shark bite. But he lost them all hahaha 🤣 he was bummed. But I helped him catch a little tarpon at another spot later on.
I don't know if it is legal for mullet but a guide I went out with years ago used ground up dog kibble as chum and netted hundreds of pinfish and greenbacks.
Great work on controlling the tarpon and ensuring is has a proper and healthy release! Also, how crazy the tarpons eye was moving when you were holding its mouth. Wonder what it was thinking 😂
My God, the keys are beautiful. Great video. What drone are you flying? Mavic? You are really good at getting the shots. Have you dropped a drone in the water yet?
all my life Ive wanted to catch a tarpon I met up with a friend who lives in lakeland florida we drove to naples florida and hooked up with a captain there he used mackeral as bait hooked into a Tarpon he said was around 125 pounds it was a dream come true I have never been so excited in my life! the bait somehow worked its way around the circle hook onto the line. as it got close to the boat the captain asked me to point the rod towards him so he could cut the bait off when I did that he accidently cut the line and my dream was gone in an instant!! Ive never been so excited and so horribly dissapointed at the same time my dream didnt come true! I guess thats life lol!
Hmm 🤔 probably a used Hobie outback off FB Market place year 2017 or 2018. Otherwise if you want new. Probably the Passport like some have mentioned, or old town pdl
Best muti-tasker I have ever seen. Dude somehow puts on gloves while fighting a 40+" Tarpon, AND THENNN Tarpon spits his dead pin fish and he nets it while fighting the tarpon to use as bait again! HAHAHA Keep killin it Rich
Bro, you got an A+ for throwing a cast net off of a kayak!
Hahaha thanks bro! A lot of practice. And this is a heavy net that took some getting use to.
AMAZING SKILLS ur right
Nothing like a hawks cay Tarpon jump 🎉
Real ones know🔥

Yeah it’s a great way to let the fish take the bait without tension and then hit ‘em hard.
That hookset was pretty neat
Fantastic drone shots once again, love those. Did not realize tarpon would go after dead bait, those were nice size tarpon as well. It is beautiful down there.
Keep 'em comin', thanks for sharing.
Thanks Don, glad you enjoyed!!!
I’ve been catching tarpon for a couple years in saltwater ponds and stuff like that and typically the go to bait is live mullet, but I was surprised too they ate dead bait, just goes to show that fishing is just unpredictable
Respect for sharing your learnings on how you might have changed up your gear or tactics to not deep hook that fish.
Amazing how thick the tarpon were there under your yak at the end. What a great video - well done on landing those fish!!
Yeah they must feed them by the docks there.
Awesome day for you, and to get a tarpon on that rod the same day you get it in mail is something special. Will definitely be checking out that rod.... thanks for the great video as always!
Looks like there is quite a big shark under your kayak 26:09, luckily that one didn´t go for the tarpon. Watch for your hands.
Haha yeah I definitely was lucky there wasn’t many bull sharks around. I think most of the sharks were nurse sharks. But I’m sure one Bull was nearby 😂 🙈
The rod combo is killing it
These kayak fishing videos are awesome
Great video! It was exciting to be with you on that adventure. Some really nice catches! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! So many tarpons! 😎

Hawks Cay is our favorite resort when we go stay in the keys.
Unreal! It's like fishing in a giant fish tank.
Can always count on quality here.
Thanks brother.
Rich, another great episode.
Richie, love the drone work dude. Always really good. I think you need a co-pilot fishing buddy with you all the time. I will graciously make that sacrifice for the betterment of the larger fishing community.
Haha thanks Kris! 😂 hopefully we’ll hit it one day 🤙🏻
I know exactly where you are. I had lunch there 2 winters ago after looking at a rental at Outdoor Resorts on Long Key. Beautiful area.
Thank you for the educational walk through on fighting Tarpon. Very professional!
Nice work kid - getting in the fishing while fam/gf still Zzzz/groggy 🤣🎣🤙🏼
Hi Rich, you sure are a great kayak fisherman. Red tide in Lemon Bay Englewood this winter thanks for the video

I might have missed it, but do you have a video walking through the rods you use for certain situations? Looking to build the collection👍
Hey Tyler, unfortunately I don’t have a current video of that but I can try and make one like that.
Great video. Really nice. Nice catch. 👍👍👍
Thanks Jose!! Tight Lines!!
Nice, Rich!

That intro was 🔥 🔥 🔥
Thanks so much!!
great work man! What was that you chummed them up with? Glass Minnows?
Was nice to meet you at Sombrero Beach. Did you have any luck there?
Hey Robert, likewise! Nah not much. I just caught the bait there then that I eventually used to catch the fish in this video. Although, when I did catch the bait and it was still alive. awesome video, the size of your casting net?
Mango tangos!
Nice vid 😂love fishing
Best video ever🔥
Thanks so much!!
What kind of scissors are those that you used to free the Tarpon? I’ve been looking for a rustproof pair.
I don't know if it is legal for mullet but a guide I went out with years ago used ground up dog kibble as chum and netted hundreds of pinfish and greenbacks.
Interesting, I’ll have to try that for pinfish
Awesome intro!
Thanks so much Mike!
Great work on controlling the tarpon and ensuring is has a proper and healthy release! Also, how crazy the tarpons eye was moving when you were holding its mouth. Wonder what it was thinking 😂
Haha probably like “let me the heck go like what even is this” 🤣
No live bait? No problem. Well done !
Hey rich, I’ll be down in the keys all this week with my autopilot 136. I’d love to team up to find fish if you’re still around.
Hey Dan, unfortunately I’m not down there anymore. But that would be awesome another time! Tight Lines!!
My God, the keys are beautiful. Great video. What drone are you flying? Mavic? You are really good at getting the shots. Have you dropped a drone in the water yet?
Thanks so much! Yeah the drone I used is the Mavic Air 2 and luckily I haven’t lost it in the drink yet. But I’ve had a couple close calls.
@@FishAholicTV Just like RC airplanes, every drone has a limited lifespan. Life usually ends spectacularly! LOL!
Reduce the barb to a microbarb to make disgorging a bit easier..?
How can I order a long sleeve shirt? Been wanting one since late 2022!!!
Suh-weet! ♥
does your kayak have a deployable rudder?
all my life Ive wanted to catch a tarpon I met up with a friend who lives in lakeland florida we drove to naples florida and hooked up with a captain there he used mackeral as bait hooked into a Tarpon he said was around 125 pounds it was a dream come true I have never been so excited in my life! the bait somehow worked its way around the circle hook onto the line. as it got close to the boat the captain asked me to point the rod towards him so he could cut the bait off when I did that he accidently cut the line and my dream was gone in an instant!! Love it bro
Thanks so much!!!
What weight rod do you use? Heavy or medium heavy??
where did you buy that net
Killer vid
Thanks Lisa!!
What net is that again rich? Not the cast net, landing net
what launch is this?
The opening teasers are catchers
Saludo desde Puerto Rico
What’s a good starter pedal kayak that won’t blow a beginner’s account? Thanks for the videos bro.
Hobie passport. Great beginner fishing kayak
I found mine on market place for 750$ it's a native watercraft slayer 13... I've never kayaked in my life and it was so easy
Hobie Passport for sure. Don’t bother with the other brands and styles of pedal
Hmm 🤔 probably a used Hobie outback off FB Market place year 2017 or 2018. Otherwise if you want new. Probably the Passport like some have mentioned, or old town pdl
What kind of cast net do u use? Hole size, length?
This is the cast net here. Thanks for watching. 8’ 1/4” hole bassproshops.vzck.net/5bN67N

Great fishing sir. How do you get away with being off solo so much on a family trip with the girlfriend there too?
You seem like a cool ass dude
More gabbing,less catching!
