I was on I95 in Florida when some bonehead hauling pallets passed me. ALL of the straps were loose. I hollered to him on the radio, and he told me to mind my own business. Got about 10 miles down the road and there were pallets scattered all over the interstate. Got down a couple miles, and there he was, pulled over by a Florida State Trooper.
Is having the cb radio very useful? I'm debating whether or not I should get one.
@@julianop.4241Yes, although I usually only cut it on when the weather is bad, when stuck in traffic jams to get an idea of what lane I need to merge into, or to inform other drivers of when they have something wrong with their trailer or tractor. It's pretty useful. You can get a decent one for about $100 - $150. Make sure you have an antenna set up and figure out how to calibrate it properly.

I will never forget watching this driver opening his trailer in flip flops during a dust storm in Lubbock Texas with sustained winds of 50 mph, with gusts of 70. I tried to warn him...his trailer was out in the open. He got a free flying lesson that day...

I pull a bore tank and I don't see many on here either, I hope for the same reason lol. Not that there aren't any bonehead tankers, I see them from time to time.
90% of the time it's a doorswinger. The other 10% of the time it's an ex doorslammer that's working on being a real truck driver but just doesn't have it down pat yet.

Was at the fuel island last Week and a Swift driver took nearly 40 min to fuel. Don't know what he was doing in his truck whilst the diesel was flowing, but he was squatting while pumping DEF, and placing the caps back on.
I worked for J&R Schugel. Many times if we had a blowout, the shop would tell us if we're near a repair shop (Loves, T/A, ETC.) just drive it there. Said it's cheaper to replace tire and rim than it is for road service to come out.
As long as it's not a drive tire I'd send it but at half speed 🤣🤣
I drove 15 miles on a blown steer when I was in training 😬

cant hate on someone for smoking the brakes. my jake brake went out on me in Oregon. i was shitting my pants scared. luckily i made it to the bottom of the hill to the loves and was able to get it repaired. cost me 3 days, but its still something i remember 5 years later.

In Germany, trucks over 7,5ton have to go to the main inspection once a year and 6 months later to the SP. Every passed test is affixed to the vehicle with a seal and is valid for 6 months.
Deadlines of the SP examination
How often a vehicle has to undergo a vehicle safety check depends on the vehicle itself. This is usually the case at intervals of 6 months. For trucks from 7.5 t, for example, it is regulated that after the initial test, each additional SP - i.e. safety test - takes place six months after the last main inspection. In this way, a continuous check of the roadworthiness of the vehicle can be guaranteed. Even trailers from 10 t must be subjected to a safety check.
During a truck safety inspection, the inspector concentrates on various areas that are subject to particularly high levels of wear and tear.
In addition to the brakes or the braking system, this also includes the steering device and the chassis or frame, the tires and wheels as well as the closing forces of the doors.
All four areas can provoke devastating accidents if not functioning properly. Therefore, a safety check in addition to a general main inspection makes a lot of sense.
For this purpose, the inspector keeps an inspection report. If not all areas checked during the truck safety check are in perfect condition, a follow-up check follows one month after the truck safety check and the vehicle initially does not receive a test mark.
American trucking is super regulated to the point where to be profitable you have to run the edge of illegality.
America has the same trailer inspection interval. Annually for Federal inspection and 6 months for preventative maintenance.

To defend the first clip, that load would only come off if the truck turned upside down. Some things you can never tighten, take lumber for instance, ever see the very front and rear dunnage higher than the central? That's to keep the slick lumber from walking out, that little offset helps keep everything in the center. And I don't care how much you think you can tighten that load, it will walk!

Got my CEEDEE'ELLS when I turned 18, damn sure glad I waited until I was 25 to actually drive a truck though, and 28 to go OTR. I was way too nervous and dumb to be out here at 18-21

Real truckers where steel toe boots or at least steel toe shoes. Of course, I wore shorts and steel toe shoes when it was hot out. I saw one guy wearing slippers going to the window to get his loading papers. When I was going through Orientation at CR England. I did a parallel parking maneuver the first time in the truck, and the guy next to me, also with his license, said, 'No way!' 'You did this before,!" I immediately asked him, "Where'd you get your license from?" lol Parallel Parking is easy. A 90 degree alley dock is easy too if you know what you are doing. Oh...we practiced on a range for 5 months, 4 hours per day just to get our license through a community college. CR England was popping people out with their license in a week and a half grinding gears to a pulp. I've never seen an outfit work like that in my life. 40 or 50 people went into orientation that already had their license. Only 11 of us left after two months. Many had accidents at Truck Stops. One guy I was training said that he was never going to park overnight at a truck stop and park at rest areas. He had a hard time to back up straight. I had to teach him to use both mirrors when backing up. A real winner he was. He was fine going down the highway, but he wasn't good at backing up. He should have had learned that before orientation at CR England. I ended up passing him, but I told him, any time you are going to back up, get out and look every few feet to see what you are backing up into. It wasn't my job to really teach him to drive, but to learn The Qualcomm, Tripaks, and to just get some experience in a truck. I had to yell him to stop while backing up to a dock next to a wall because he was steering the front of the truck into the wall that he could clearly see if he used his other mirror. Nope! Just looking at one mirror the whole way through. Another one I trained, I had to tell him to slow down around the corners going up from Denver, Colorado through Vail and Aspen along the river. Taking corners to fast. He wanted to fight with me saying that I just got my license too, and I told him, 'Yeah, but I went through a Community College with lots of training and I scored 100% on my DMV test." I had to call the company. They told me that I could drop him off right there on the spot. I told them that I didn't really want to do that. I just wanted him to calm down after I stopped the truck and got out, and then passed him the phone so those from the company could have a little chat with him. Some drivers want to drive a Semi like its a damn race car. It isn't! It's like a huge floating brick going down the highway that doesn't stop on a dime. I swear....some people are really stupid out there driving Semis. After I worked as a trucker for 5 months, I know now to keep an eye out for them. I trusted many truckers and their driving abilities at my dad's truck stop, and sometimes.....they would ask me to park their truck when I didn't even have a CDL and didn't have a clue on how to operate a truck. The first time I was asked to park a truck, he just told me that I'll figure it out, and I did. That was before I went for training at NMCC.
