Renata had indeed a GORGEOUS instrument that she never learned to use properly... yet when the bad intonation was not prominent and the line did not demand coloratura, the Italian Warmth and the Beauty / Homogeneity of timbre truly brings joy to the listener... I have come to think she was an acoustic singer
I never thought that they sang together! They had similar vocal power if not the same but Tebaldi had a lyrical quality in her voice. Tebaldi was like an unusually humongous lyric soprano.
Mi dispiace per lei. Sotto l’equivoco della voce “bella e basta” si scorda che la Tebaldi aveva una sensibilità interpretativa eccezionale. Lo scontro con la Callas aveva una sua logica profonda, al di là di tutto: una grande tragica contro una grande lirica. Come due concezioni del mondo opposte. Io ho scoperto la musica lirica per caso grazie alla Tebaldi, alla carezza calda della sua voce, alla sua spontaneità e verità di interprete…certo nelle opere a lei più congeniali, e con tutti i limiti…come ogni essere umano, cantanti compresi. E questa magia, con tutto che sono diventato un musicologo, non si è mai estinta
Qui finisce quello che aveva ideato Puccini,e Toscanini non volle proseguire.Credo che tutti i direttori d'orchestra dovrebbero imitarlo.Chi è d'accordo con me?
They did that in Turin's Teatro Regio in 2018 but this opera needs a big finale, and Franco Alfano's complete version of the closing duet is excellent. In Amsterdam they tried Luciano Berio's ending in 2002 which was disappointing and an anti climax.
No, io non sono d’accordo. Puccini ha buttato il poco sangue che gli restava, per il duetto finale. È un torso doloroso, monco, sofferto, ma che ci dà la misura della sua onestà e grandezza di compositore. Se fosse vissuto, una soluzione l’avrebbe trovata. Ma secondo me , anche queste soluzioni provvisorie sono importanti da conoscere, sollevano il problema, ci fanno riflettere e ammirare di più un compositore che fino all’estremo della sua vita è andato avanti, ha cercato di superarsi
