Since this is a Custom II, there is a caution for field stripping. The Swartz firing pin block uses a pin which is raised by the grip safety. The reason he had trouble when removing/installing the slide is because he's holding the grip safety. When disassembling a Custom II you have to be sure NOT to hold the grip safety when pulling the slide. This caution is in the manual and damage caused isn't covered by warranty. Also don't turn the gun upside down as the pin will extend under gravity.
Hunter Lawrence The Colt Series 80 firing pin block is activated entirely differently than the Kimber II. The Colt’s is activated by the trigger, the Kimber’s by the Grip Safety, aka the Schwartz system, that was invented by a Colt gunsmith by the same name.
Great vid. Every Kimber 1911 owner needs to bookmark this vid and go step by step with it when doing takedown and cleaning. Well done and thank you!!!!
great video, i haven't my Kimber for too long and and was unfamiliar with the process. unfortunately, the slide got dinged when trying to put night sights on, so this video was very helpful with the basic steps for disassembly. the slide is being shipped to Kimber for refinishing, and when i get it back i'll reference this video again for reassembly. thanks!
Not sure what I was doing wrong, but just watch 3 - 4 other videos on 1911 reassembly and could not get it to work. Thankfully, one time through your vid and it worked like a charm. Sincere thanks!
Great video, I'm about to buy a Kimber, I have other 1911s but always wanted a Kimber. There's nothing more relaxing than field stripping a 1911, giving it some quality cleaning time and putting it back together.
Very helpful and well done. I purchased a Custom II today from my local gun shop / range, and just finished her first cleaning. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you brother 👊, that retaining cap popped off atleast 6 times , tricky little sucker but it’s done . Next one should be much smoother , the slide key or pin , has to be perfectly aligned with the little square and the barrel loop has to be aligned perfectly or it’s a fail . But your video helped sort it all out , 1000 Thank youz!
Very well done and simply explained, not much different from any other 1911 field strip asides from the full length guiderod, sometimes they can make disassembly a real pain in the ass if you don't have the bushing wrench as opposed to a GI guiderod that doesn't need it nearly as much.
Kimber doesn't use a Series 80 design that is activated by the trigger. Instead, Kimber uses the Swartz-style firing pin safety that is activated by the grip safety. When removing and especially re-installing the slide, make sure that the grip safety is not depressed so as not to damage the "pin" that protrudes from the frame when the grip safety is depressed. That's why it looked like the slide was stuck when he was removing and re-installing the slide.
I loved this video. I just bought this gun from a friend of my son's and could not get the spring back in. After watching this, it went in smoothly with little effort.
Very helpful. I noticed that your pistol has some stiffness or tension at certain points when you are moving the slide. I have almost the same model of Kimber, and mine has this tightness as well. Do you think this is due to it being new? Will it loosen up in time? Thanks for giving this nice, straightforward disassembly and reassembly video. As I said, it is very helpful, especially to new gun owners.
Love my Kimber Talon, awesome shooter- a little difficult to field strip/reassemble as compared most others but made a bit easier with this vid. Thanks for taking the time to post it!
Excellent! finally figured out what I was doing wrong with mine (in the re-assembly, I kept putting that latch forward instead of back like you did. Thank you sir!
Very good demonstration. I got my Kimber field stripped with this video. The manual wasn't clear to me. I don't understand the "don't likes". What is there not to like?
I am new to guns and have a series of questions: 1) with an empty magazine present, and with the slide locked back, when you pull back further, will the slide release? Or do you have to push down on the slide lock lever to release it? 2) with a loaded magazine present, will your slide lock at any point when you pull back on the slide or does it continue to pull back until you release it by letting go?
Great video, I have the Auto-Ordnance Thompson Custom 1911 SS TCA which is basically a replica of this and around the same price, I was wondering what the name of the tool you used was? I’ve never had to disassemble a 1911 with a full length guiderod, thanks
Good Video. I have a Kimber Custom II. But, when it comes to disassembly/Assembly for a M1911 of any brand, you should not have to use any tool!! Such as the wrench to remove spring plug. I saw a video of how to disassemble a Kimber Ultra carry. Apparently, you need a paper clip?
When unloading , the manual cautions 'Do not 'ease' the hammer down by holding or blocking it. Doing so can mar the sear tip which will result in a substandard trigger pull. Would this apply for field stripping as well?
Hey man. Just wanted to say thanks for posting this vid. 1911 noobs like me need this shit. I have the same gun but just the black one and I love it. Put my first 100 rounds through it yesterday. Shoots like a dream. I have a question also: Can you leave a 1911 chambered but NOT cocked? I noticed you decocked yours. I like having a handgun chambered but not cocked because I feel it stresses the gun over long periods of time. Thanks!
Do you know the wear patterns for the 1911? I disassembled mine after 75 rounds to clean it and found that where the guide rod rests on the barrel is quite rough. Also noticed that the barrel at the top felt like it had a ring around it as you run your finger over it. Was wondering if this is normal or if i should bring it in?
I just want to mention that you should never put any oil into the firing pin channel. It will eventually turn to sludge and impair free movement of the firing pin. All you really should do is periodically remove the firing pin and clean the pin and channel.
Man you made a good video, simple you were calm and i like how you werent gentle with it like a sissy, its a 45 lol its not a bitch its a gun lol. I really like this video it was helpfull, thank you
When I got mine it has rust on it in different spots and no matter how much I clean it the rust comes back anyone got the same problem with these pistols
Well done. Kimbers are works of art and built like a bank vault.
Facts you can hear the quality and sturdiness of the metals itself interact. It's the best firearm pound 4 pound.

Dave Goodwin The series 80 safety is why I don’t have a custom II. I do have an old custom pro that is series 70.

Simple and straightforward, that's why we love our 1911s. Desert Storm Veteran 1990/94
Watching this as I unbox my Stainless II for the first time. Looks easy enough thanks to you.
I get mine Saturday haha
@@ramonm5923 You're gonna love it! It hits whatever you point it at.
6:18 seconds to take apart/reassemble and he was not even rushing! Good video, no BS just clear instructions on the Kimber.
Great vid. Every Kimber 1911 owner needs to bookmark this vid and go step by step with it when doing takedown and cleaning. Well done and thank you!!!!

The grip safely was engaged that's why the slide didn't move forward and off the frame.
I still liked the video very much. Thank you.

Good job appreciate you taking time to clearly explain each step thank you.
Thank you ! Very helpful . Picked up Custom II ON FRIDAY . Stripped it , ran 150 rds through it today . Really enjoyed the gun. Ran flawlessly.
Thank you brother 👊, that retaining cap popped off atleast 6 times , tricky little sucker but it’s done . Great vid. May I add that one should always wear safety glasses. That recoil spring has a mind of its own. Better safe than sorry.

Well thought out and executed demonstration. I found it very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much bro, you made this so easy for me!!! It was easy to follow along with you. Thanks again!
Great tutorial. Thank you.

This is a great demo. Short, practical, simple. Well-spoken. Thanks.
Great video man
Just got one of these, tried my best to do it without the tool but couldn't, crazy you need a special tool on this one.
Never saw that tool before, I've gotten use to doing it with my thumb on my Springfield 1911.
I loved this video. I just bought this gun from a friend of my son's and could not get the spring back in. After watching this, it went in smoothly with little effort.
Very informative. Thanks
Thanks dude had mine stuck after sitting too long
Great work, clear and concise without the BS some self important wannabees go through. All the way from Aussie Well done.
Great to hear. Impressive you guys can even get your hands on a 1911. I hear horror stories about gun bans.
Great video, many thanks. I love my Kimber!
The Kimber 1911 custom 2. Is one of the best guns I’ve ever owned.
Thanks for the video....just bought a Kimber Stainless II and had a hard time lining up that loop upon reassembly.

Thank you very much. Very helpful.
Nice job on the video. I enjoy my 1911.
Good video brother!
Thank you for the helpful video! How come you were able to decock hammer at the end without depressing the grip safety?
I was pulling down on the top of the grip safety where the hammer was when I pulled the trigger.
Nice Job Buddy.
Thanks for the video
There will always be a little tight spot in the slide travel where the slide comes in contact with the disconnector.
Thanks man! Helped a lot!
nice vid. Gave me a few ideas ob how to do mine easier. Thanks
Well done
Nice video! I have the CII in black.
Nice vid right to the point.keep it up.

Very cool, thank you...
Thanks I was able to un jam my Kimber 👍🏽

Per the manual keep your palm off the beavertail safety when removing the slide to avoid damaging the .....
very crisp sound

EXCEPT don't remove the bushing until after you've removed the slide from the frame. The barrel was bouncing around all over inside the slide.
It looks like the barrel were it says the caliber. Mine has a small space from the frame and barrel idk if that space was there before
Thank you help me out lots
Thanks bro it help a lot

The tool is your friend.
To Jim B.I have a Kimber 45 FS. I should not have to use a tool, to remove the Spring pug etc.
I love the sound
Wonderful video... thank you so much it was very helpful.
Cool gun man

Awesome gun
Had a terrible time getting the slide stop back in on my new Rapide...😳
What do u do if the slide is stuck after removing the slide pin? It does not budge forward or backward; hammer is cocked position! Any suggestions?
I haven't had that happen. Maybe try pushing the grip safety in case it is causing the bind.
@@Evilcartmancobra Got it! New pistol! Had to wiggle slide back and forth and it finally released!
I literally can not get the slide lock pin out lol

Normal
Not on a Glock mat!!!! J/k good video man!
Rubber gloves is a good tip.

I just got the exact same gun and this video is very helpful, thanks for posting!
Did he say put a little oil on the firing pin? NOT!
Thank you! I thought I was the only real gunman on here ! Who tf puts oil on their firing pin ? Crazy 🤪
When I got mine it has rust on it in different spots and no matter how much I clean it the rust comes back anyone got the same problem with these pistols
Damn Kimber make sexy 1911's
