    Thank you for this. It helped me out a lot and I saved money. Staples was going to charge me $100, but I bought the SATA/IDE cables for $7 on eBay and was able to retrieve my files.

    Thank you for the wonderful video. I had a computer go belly up but the hard drives were still good. Never knew that these devices were even around. Ordered by IDE/SATA adapter... watched your video and I was off and running. Thank you for posting. I was able to retrieve ALL of my files from my old computer without any problems.

    Thanks for the video. For USB to IDE users, try changing the jumper before giving up. I changed the jumper on the old IDE drive from Master to Slave, no luck, removed it altogether, still no luck, and finally changed it to Cable Select and then my old drive was recognized as a drive on my laptop. Cable Select worked for my laptop, which is Win Vista. I read other articles where Slave works on some and even removing the jumper altogether might work. Plenty of info on this by searching Google for IDE Jumper.

    This was the most helpful video. I bought the Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter to transfer data from my old hard drive to my new computer but the "instructions" that came with it did not explain how to connect the different types of hard drives and which connectors went where. I'm a pretty tech savvy power user but I'm no computer tech and this video totally saved the day.

    Hi, I bought the same product from Ebay but as soon as I connected it to a SATA 3.5" disk (the power side [as you call at 6:54]-the 4-color cables) there was an explosion and the power supply went dead. At first I thought that the reason was a short circuit at the 4-colored cable pins since they're kind of loose, as you say at 6:03("they move"). Also the room's power fuse went off.
    So I ordered a second item from ebay and this time I made the connections to a diffenent disk (a laptop 2.5"SATA) with a lot of care! I took special care not to have a new short circuit again. Even so, it happened again: When i finally put the plug to the wall outlet boom! (I saw a sparkle at the transformer's 220V input. I tried to ask the chinese seller for advice or a user manual (which was missing from the package), but he bearly understood any english. He gave me advice on how to follow the post tracking as if I had complained for not having received anything! I could use the rest of the articles in managing a 3.5 HDD with a power supply from a PC. A computer technician told me he thought the chinese power supply is faulty. Thankfully both disks were not damaged (I could read them throught other equipment) but I'm afraid to make the same mistake for a third time. I was afraid I misconnected something, but as I see I followed the same procedure as you did. Do you have any ideas or advice?
    Thank you

    I tried the device you have here, my question is, my pc used IDE drives and I tried with a sata drive and was not recognised and was prompted for drivers which Windows could not find. When I plugged the usb in my pc found the connection but not the drive.Can only the external drive type that's the same as my installed drives be used ie sata with sata and IDE with IDE. At the moment I don't have an IDE hard drive to test my usb cable.I have connected a spare dvd drive that's IDE and my pc found that and it works fine through the usb.

Does that spot need to be plugged into something if not what was that for when it was in the pc ? Cause I can’t get my comp to recognize when I plug mine in can hear my laptop tryin to make it work but nothing , no sound or auto play can’t find it it’s like it’s not plugged in but my laptop is humming tryin to make it work.

    • @lingcod91
      @lingcod91 5 лет назад

      Tony, that was my exact question. The Jumper makes a BIG difference on IDE drives, my attempt failed to work, so maybe the jumper was set wrong, does the USB take that equation out of the situation???? Did you ever get an answer from this guy????? Every "How To" instruction seems to leave some important aspect, while focusing on plugging in AC cords and warnings about not using it underwater.
