My favorite subject to learn about in school was always math (specifically algebra). My favorite subject to teach is science. We’re still in the preschool years so we do a lot of learning through life. My oldest son loves bugs, so we’ve been doing a lot of learning by identifying bugs outside and learning facts about them. Last week, the largest species of moths in North America landed on our front window and stayed there for two days. We spent time identifying body parts, figured out she was female (he named her Mothsuki lol) and a bunch of other stuff. I love it!

I love to hear you talk about your son that is just now getting into enjoying formal education. We are doing the same thing with my 6 (7 in December) and I go back and forth between, I AM FAILING HIM! And thinking this is wonderful! I wish I had been laid back with his older sisters like this.

I loved my business classes in high school. Honestly, when it comes to teaching my own kids, I have really enjoyed teaching my littles to read. I think the skill of reading opens SO many windows and opportunities. I love being able to see their brains connecting the dots and knowing that I was able to facilitate that skill. A skill that will be crucial for the rest of their lives.

I am so excited to hear your take on Gather Round. I am doing the North American Birds unit to start our first homeschool year. As a Kindergarten teacher (before kids), I LOVED teaching reading. It is pure magic when a child puts together all the pieces and starts reading independently. Facilitating the distance learning with my kindergartener last spring gave me the opportunity to revisit that as I saw my daughter really take off with her reading. I have had a strong desire, for years, to improve my own personal knowledge in geography, so I am really excited to learn that alongside my kids this year.

  • @johnstongirl11

We love Gather Round so much!!! We use it as our enrichment. We may spend 6-10 weeks on each unit and really dive into resources and read aloud!!! And I use the workbooks as his “homework” over the weekend when he stays with my parents while we work. Sometimes he does all the worksheets sometimes he does none. My husband and I enjoy learning the information. Even my parents have enjoyed learning with him on the weekends and he will often have them reread lessons he has already heard!

I absolutely loved History in school. I find it so interesting and I have so much fun talking about the past with my littles. This is our first year homeschooling and I've been anxious about choosing curriculum for our 3rd and 7th graders. My favorite subject in school was choir, but teaching my kids, I really enjoy teaching them language arts and reading. I Love reading! And watching them get wins is just the best and why I wanted to switch to homeschooling!!
Nature walks have also been a lot of fun now that we can do them without me losing it. My 8 year old son is autistic and my eloper, but he's gotten a lot better about not taking off in the last couple years though, thank the Lord!
I recently went on the hunt to find him some free, comprehension-appropriate history lessons. I found a program that uses printable mini books. Super excited to jump back in next week!

My favorite subject to teach is creative writing. It's so fun giving the kids a prompt and seeing all the different thoughts, stories...creativeness coming out of them. My favorite subject to learn about would be history and how it affects our lives today.

My favorite subject in school was always art, although I liked most subjects. My favorite subject to teach has been history because I do a lot of research beforehand and make connections that I never made before. I feel like I am able to pull out much more meaningful lessons from history for my kids when I research it too.

I loved to read growing up. Often, I would get my subjects done and look forward to read and even stay up late at night turning pages. When my kids were only a week old I know it sounds silly but I began to read to them. They have always enjoyed reading. My oldest reads everything and my youngest two beg me to read to them. On library days they can be found quietly reading/looking at books for a gloriously quiet 30 minutes for me.

My favorite subject to learn was creative writing but my favorite subject to teach is actually history. I love that I can be really interactive with the stories and how to go about making it come alive with all the stories versus the method of using dry textbooks that I went through as a kid.

I loved learning history in school. Even though my kids are all 2nd grade and younger right now I’m really looking forward to teaching them some history and science this year. With homeschooling it’s really neat to incorporate some field trips into our courses that correspond with what we are learning about.

We are enjoying Gather Round. It works great if you like a 4 day schedule. 4 days a week for 5 weeks and you will complete a unit. The oceans unit has been a favorite here. For my kids, who struggle with language arts, we needed to add in more language arts. Trying out a language arts loop basket currently.

My favorite subject to learn about was Science. I loved learning how things were all interconnected. Now I enjoy writing. Very few of my kids enjoy it, but I LOVE it! It was my favorite subject to teach when I was a public school teacher and it's now my favorite subject to teach at home.

My favorite class in school was always English. I loved the classics reading assignments.
My favorite to teach is history because I’ve learned so many things right along side my kids! Love that about homeschooling

All about reading and gather round homeschool are my 2 favorite programs. I have found for us since my girls write on such a different level than they read by pairing the 2 they are just taking off. For the first time ever (after a year of trying) both my girls did a free write with gather round today.

My favorite subject to teach about is history!!! I was never a history kid growing up but now I’m seriously obsessed with it. My kids love it too! Especially Ancient Greece, Roman Empire and Vikings! Love that you are giving Gather Round a try!! We are using it this year with my 9 and 6 year old! We are a week in and it’s a huge hit! We also use The Good and the Beautiful for math and language arts. I honestly don’t think the language arts is necessary to add to for Gather Round but we really love it so it’s not going anywhere. Praying many blessings over you and yours during your move and transitioning period. We live on a small farm in the mountains and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The life that it gives my children is like no other.

This is my first year homeschooling my 2 boys, ages 4 and 6 years old. We picked TGaTB for both boys for ELA. Singapore for math. I got the Evan Moor daily science book for my older one along with lots of engaging science books. For social studies we’re going to just do some unit studies I’ve designed mostly around our interests. I’m nervous but excited for this year! I’ve always felt drawn to homeschool my kids, but the pandemic definitely sealed the deal for us. Thanks for sharing your curriculum picks; I love hearing what works for other people.

My favorite thing to do with my children is read aloud to them! We use Sonlight which is heavy on reading, and it fits us well! I also LOVE history and science -- not so much the experiments side of it, but studying animals, bugs, human body, weather, etc!! So many possibilities to make it so fun and hands on!!!

I can’t wait to see your review on gather around home schooling! I was not as they say a good student in school. School was extremely difficult for me. I am dyslexic and I didn’t read my first book until after I graduated. Everyone just passed me along, my favorite subject was art but I don’t know if you can even really classify that as a core subject but it was in my eyes. My favorite subject to teach is math. Thank you so much for your videos💜
