    Hey great video. I purchased a Cricut 2 years ago for my lovely wife. That exact model. She loves it. Now.....because of the cricut she watched this video with me. She cringed watching Chris weed the vinyl without the "weeding tool". I told her if Chris really wanted one he'd have one. I am encouraged where this is the first ever guitar building video she has ever watched with me. Nice job.

    I used to work for a sign shop as their vynl guy for about 4 years. It would be easier to weed the excess off first (leave the part you are gonna use on the backing) and use transfer tape to tape over the sticker. They make small rolls of transfer tape that is see through. That way you dont have to fight the adhesive when pulling out centers to letters. Give it a shot and you can thank me later. Cool video!

    I had ordered some logos printed on clear vinyl and they were really damn expensive. A while back my sister told me she could make me some on her Cricut and they came out great! I had been using them as paint stencils but I think I’m going to use the lettering as a decal instead. Great video Matt and Chris.

    • @JoeKyser
      @JoeKyser 2 года назад

      @@TexanUSMC8089 its no different than a laser or cnc machine. It depends on the graphic. One color is real simple. You can waste ink and print the whole area in a single color or what I do is is just make my logo 1.5 larger. Its a feature in adobe I just do in one click. Then cut as usual and have a colored slide. I like to use hologram powders to create special effects in the logo. Theres one that looks like diamonds hitting the light. Anyhow if its an imagine I just being it up in Adobe and click trace. I isolate the outline. That file inagine is the same size as the the piece of paper I put into the plotter. So I can print it. Cut it down to that size and just insert and cut the traced image I created in Adobe. It really is just a few clicks. Theres no guesswork. Just look at each piece of work as its own size. I work with 2"x3" alot. I print an image in that area then cut the traced image in the same area. Look at the printer like a plotter. Its the same thing in two different machines thats all.

    I use waterslides as well as a cricut. It does make good vinyl decals but its not great for very small decals i have found. Also the vinyl is quite thick compared to waterslide so it can be a pain to cover if I'm applying an oil finish

  • @TerribleTim68

    Interesting weeding method. I do a lot of my own decals (or decles if I race up North) and I weed them while they are still on the backing paper, then apply the transfer tape (or masking tape in Chris' case), then peel the backing off. It's way easier to weed off of the backing paper because it's less sticky. 😉

    I would like to add, that depending on the vinyl used, there is a critical minimum size for the lettering one can cut. The machine will not allow for tiny lettering, simply as a limitation during the tweening of the logo/design. The smaller the letters (Like e, o, a, B etc, with open center sections, the harder it is for the machine to do a good cut job. So, if that is a concern, THEN one should consider the use of water slide paper printing. Other than that, the Cricut plotter is the tool for the job, hands down!

    Do you need a subscription with them in order to use it? Because when I was looking at them, they claimed you had to pay a monthly fee or it wouldn't work.

    Great video guys but just for info, it’s pronounced cry-cut, not “cricket” as it is a CUTting machine and does not involve silly men hitting a small ball with a bat. 😊

    I watched this video with my wife as well. I got her the same model for Christmas this year. We've been watching the "Mr. Crafty Pants" you tube channel to learn how to use it, and he has some videos about using it for wood burning. I can only imagine what you guys could do with this technique! Here's a link to one of the videos: ruclips.net/video/5FoQxM1vKGk/видео.html
