@@DIYGene Thanks. I'm sure it will. I painted 2 of my headstocks and they came out perfect.
Thanks gene. You inspired me to make the tele acoustic - electric guitar in the 1 video.and it turned out almost perfect. Your a great guy with awesome videos.
C,L,B. ,Allendale guitars, Thanks so much. I would love to see how it turned out and what did you used for the acoustic pickup?
@@DIYGene it's on my chanel video. Not long just. A short video presentation finished
@@DIYGene hybrid tele video. And thank you gene.
Brilliant video Gene. Every now and again i like to rewatch some of your content. Keep up the fantastic work buddy 😁
Thank you so much. I like knowing that the videos can be good reference material. Thanks again for watching.
Excellent video and very helpful. Blessings.
Thanks so much for watching.
Hey Gene, great video man!
Btw, for future reference on when you want to place the decal.
You can use a drop or two of "Dawn" dishwashing soap.
Make your water hot as you can stand it.
Put in a drop or two of dishwashing soap, swish it around a little.
Then place your decal in that soapy water for about 15 to 25 seconds.
After that, place it on whatever surface, cause the dishsoap makes it a little bit slippery
and easy to work with. Then you just wipe away the excess water with a soft dry cloth.
I build a lot of models, and they require some decaling. This method has worked well,
doesn't damage the decal either!
Great advice! Thanks for watching.
@@DIYGene thank you for the excellent tutorial. You might have already said this, but if I have painted the wood with acrylic paint, should I seal it before applying the water slide paper? And if so, what kind of sealant?
@@joyelleforjesus I would use the same brand as the acrylic. Like if you used Rust-Oleum 2X acrylic, then I would use Rust-Oleum 2X gloss clear. Also don’t forget to spray a coat on the water slide decals after you printed and cut them out. I hope that helps.
Always ending the week with your great videos, thanks for the golden content ! I will defined try that and also i just made a guitar kit strat build out of your videos and tuned it today, it was really helpful i corrected some mistakes from your tuning video with the professional guitar technician cant be more greatful! Thanks for the help and motivating me to do it myself
Random Channel , As alway, I so appreciate your comments and am excited to hear I may have been some help along the way. You make it worthwhile.
DIY Gene thanks to you sir ! You did really help sir thanks overmuch, keep up your unique content! ❤️
? Great video, my question is; should I try and match the decals background to the color of the headstock if it is different than black?
Yes if you are using the white waterslide material like I used in this video. However if you headstock is lighter than the logo color, you could use the clear waterslide. I did a video using that too. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/Lpm1LYW3KHw/видео.html
I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Always nice projects and they come out so nice. Good work Thanks
Thank you George. And thanks again for watching.
Good video. Gave you a thumbs up. But wondering why you didn't show close up of the PERCUSSION decal because it didn't look like you made the 'background' brown. You left it black. I'm guessing it looks more like a sticker than a decal.
Thank you. And actually the percussion decal worked better than all of them. It was just from another video. Here is a link if you would like to see it: ruclips.net/video/FujNsmCubwY/видео.html
Thanks again for watching.
Great video Gene More please
George Krabs, thank you! More to come. Any suggestions?
How do you print the right size for the logo?
Thanks for showing how you do that. I'll have to give that a try.👍😎🎸🎶
Thanks Dart Man!
@@DIYGene yep!☺
i sprayed the clear gloss krylon on mine after i applied it and the decal like 1 hour later and it started reacting to it bubbling and cracking what can i use or did i do it wrong
awesome vid man
Swetty Spaghtti , Thanks so much!
Can I use a laser printer? The printing is so much smoother and slick looking. Thanks!
I would test it out and make sure it will print okay. Amazon does offer waterside paper for laser printers.
Nice video.. love it keep up the great work.
Thanks David!
Great. Did you print white with black background? means no ink on a text?
Great video!! Question, on the last headstock did you use all 3 of the finishes or just one? If so, which did you use?? Thanks!!
Oderus004 , I used Varathane triple thick water based semi gloss. It is as thick as snot, but levels out nicely. There is a Amazon link to it in the description. I also think you can get it at Lowe’s. I hope that helps.
Ok Gene. You’ve made Star Wars props, you’ve made guitars, now PLEASE make a Star Wars guitar!!!!
How did you print the white portion of the decal?
I didn’t. I actually print the background on to white waterslide paper. Then cut it out fairly tight around the logo. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.
Hello Gene,
Thank you for the video, i believe that you are using white waterslide decal paper, am I right?
Great video gene👍will black decals cover up any other Logo already on a headstock?
If you used the white water slide and printed black as the background, I think it would.
I'm trying to do the same as you, onto black headstock. With the proper paper but don't know how to get the right artwork to work from. I hope u can help me??
Emmett Leech , what art work are you looking for? If I can help I will.
Hi from Downunder Gene thanks for this great video. I build guitars and have always bought my logos from Rothko&Frost in the UK. They do gold's and silver's but can you get regular supplies of printer ink in these colours for regular inkjet printers ?
I don’t think so. I did a one with a goldfish color on the clear waterslide and it looked good. Here is the link:

I have an idea.
Color the headstock. Finish it. The decal should be lighter color and around of it should be transperant. Plus, don’t cut it closer. Leave some room to cover whole front surface. Then trim it. You may still use something as clearcoat (depends on the result you will get). I believe there won’t be any edge or mark around the logo.
I think that is well worth trying. Thanks for the great suggestion.
@@DIYGene you’re very welcome. I’m eager to see the result.
I'm not a graphic artist, but I think there's a way to do a no background logo in Photoshop, that would eliminate the need for black as the wood color should show through
Christopher Anderson you are right. But unfortunately a inkjet printer cannot print white. So if you use the clear water slide decals, the colors won’t show up on a dark surface.
Is it possible to apply a clear coat after the tru oil finish? I have a personal project that would involve applying decals over the color of the body, but I would need to seal them to blend into the body.
Eric Dussault, I have done it without any problems. But be careful that the clear coat isn’t hotter than the tru-oil or it might wrinkle the surface. I know lacquer is way too hot.
Great info.
My affordable Asian guitar is now an overpriced Gibson Asian made guitar!
LOL. Thanks for watching.
You can see the outline of the decals in every example
⛔️ Round off sharp corners when cutting the decal out. This helps avoid pealing later ⚠️
Excellent suggestion. Thanks for watching.
Well at least we know that that les paul was Gibson quality
What does reverse it out mean?
Tony Greeson , I meant to make your logo and copy white and your background black. Sorry for making that confusing. Thanks for watching.
Can u do Steve harrington bat
From Stranger Things? I will have to look at that. Thanks for watching.
